There was no doubt that Spider-Man 3 was going to hold the top spot after it's second weekend, but the big speculation was how much it was going to drop off. Now we know. Spider-Man 3 dropped 60% from last weekend, but still brought in an additional $60 million for a two week total of $242 million! It's worldwide total now stands at $621.6 million!

Meanwhile, 28 Weeks Later opened to not so spectacular numbers as it came in second place with $10 million. Despite a fair enough amount of good reviews (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/28_weeks_later/), it looks like it couldn't generate the buzz it's predecessor received.

Opening in third was Georgia Rule with $5.8 million.

Coming in fourth place was Disturbia still doing well with $4.8 million and a $66.2 million total.

And rounding out the top 5 and opening was Delta Farce with $3.5 million.

Also opening this weekend and waaaay down in twelfth place was Zach Braff's The Ex with $1.3 million in 1,009 theaters.

Out of the top 12 this weekend was Are We Done Yet? (13th), Vacancy (14th), and The Condemned (20th).

Opening next weekend is only one new movie and it's speculated to be a doozy. Shrek the Third (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=4981) (rated PG) stars the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Rupert Everett, Justin Timberlake, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Amy Sedaris, John Krasinski, and Ian McShane.

Here are your numbers....

1) Spider-Man 3- $60,000,000 ($242,071,000)
2) 28 Weeks Later- $10,000,000 ($10,000,000) NEW!
3) Georgia Rule- $5,879,000 ($5,879,000) NEW!
4) Disturbia- $4,807,000 ($66,295,000)
5) Delta Farce- $3,500,000 ($3,500,000) NEW!
6) Fracture- $2,900,000 ($30,980,000)
7) The Invisible- $2,202,000 ($15,546,000)
8) Hot Fuzz- $1,655,000 ($18,930,000)
9) Next- $1,604,000 ($14,604,000)
10) Meet the Robinsons- $1,600,000 ($94,094,000)
11) Blades of Glory- $1,415,000 ($113,839,000)
12) The Ex- $1,355,000 ($1,355,000) NEW!

Wow, Spider-Man 3 sure is making a lot of money. $621.6 million in only 2 weeks is impressive. However, I see Shrek The Third giving Spidey quite a bit of competition next weekend, so Spidey may not be the best selling movie when that time comes.

I loved 28 Days Later, but I have no intention of seeing the sequel. Also, from what I've heard, I didn't miss much.

Next week will be all Shrek.

I think Shrek might just top the box office next weekend, but I have a feeling Spidey will be a VERY strong second. Of course, Jack Sparrow's going to give both a run for their money when Pirates III comes.

I wanted to see the Ex, but I don't think it's going to have a long run, especially since it opened so very low.

The local papers FINALLY got around to reviewing the Invisible since it wasn't screened for critics when it opened. I'll be passing on that one, too.

Looks like justice was served. Delta Farce out-grossed The Ex.

As far as I'm concerned, a Larry the Cable Guy vehicle looks far more appealing than some sixth-generation dub of a crappy Ben Stiller comedy of embarrassment...and I say this as a huge "Scrubs" and "Arrested Development" fan.

Sherk the Third will definitely be #1 on its opening weekend. It won't out perform Spider-Man 3, however, since it mostly caters to chlidren and adults who still love juvenile jokes.

It won't be number one for long either since Pirates 3 comes out next week.

Desperately hoping Shrek 3 is good. In a month of "3" sequels that don't seem very rewarding, Shrek is looking like the only one in a position to really bring the love.

I hardly call $60 million bad. It may be a big drop from last weekend, nut NO movie every makes $140+ million in its second week. With that said, I can't see Shrek beating it out. I mean, it has Justin Timberlake's voice in it, and that already states that I cannot watch it.

Nevertheless, two weeks from now will be all on the pirates.

If Shrek III had happened a few years ago, I'd have felt the same way about Timberlake, but, and I REALLY hate to admit it, he's actually broken out of the NSYNC/Annoying Boy Band member who can do no right shadow and is actually making a name for himself. My respect for the guy's gone up a few points.

I'm guessing the top three spots will be held by Spidey, Pirates, and Shrek until Surf's Up (which I myself have no interest in) hits, since it's got Shia Lebeauf in it, and he's a big draw these days.

Meh, I thought Shrek 2 was complete crap, and Shrek 3 looks even worse (that horrible, horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE baby vomit joke in the trailer was enough to turn me away from the film). I think SM3 and PotC3 will be better in terms of enjoyability.

No, he still has no talent. A five year old could come up with "SexyBack." It is just a bunch of random noises mixed with Justin talking. It does not fit the definition of a song in any interpretation.

I thought Shrek 2 exceeded sequel expectations, though coming out of the movie I was silently hoping they didn't press their luck for a third one. Fingers still crossed it turns out decent.

Gotta see if Hot Fuzz is still playing around here. Have yet to check that awesomeness out.

Here's my take on the summer box office run, and this is from a guy who's seen both the Spiderman and Pirates Franchises (as well as the Shrek angle).

This week, Spidey definitely kept #1 and is breaking box office records faster then (Peter) Parker can spin a huge web. But with Shrek the Third, coming out this weekend, the stage is for the ultimate battle Royale between three huge franchises, and all three will set the stage for even a larger franchise later this summer (come Independence Day.)

First you got Spidey, and believe me when Spiderman is in town people love the genre.. Stan Lee made Spidey and the fans want Marvel to up the bar each time. And Spidey 3 is no slouch. But then comes Shrek, and you know that Shrek is no slouch either (Considering that Shrek 2 was the fastest animated movie to gross 100, 200, 300, and even 400 million (in just under 30 days). So keep an eye on the green ogre this week, but Spidey is still gonna take this next week. before Shrek takes him down in movie wrangling terms.

Then comes Memorial Day weekend, and Disney/Buena Vista comes Thundering in with PotC:World's End. Captain Jack is back, for one final trip down the pirating lane, and considering that last time out, with Dead Man's Chest, the overall gross of The Pirate's Franchise was well over 1 billion (That's billion with a 'b'). it's no surprise that Disney is pumping the Franchise's hype with a Kim Possible Episode (Cap'n Drakken) the Saturday prior to the initial Memorial Day Weekend (and If you think I'm kidding take a look at this post (http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=2520345&postcount=23)and commentary I made.) You know that Disney is going to pump all of this franchise for all it's worth. So come Memorial Day prepare for a Fullsade broadside here from the Pirates.

But after Memorial Day, All heck breaks loose with Disney/Pixar crankinng out Ratatouille, and then it's gonna be quiet till Independence day when the 'Giant Bots' of Transformers come rolling in. and then when that happens.. expect another hot round of fans flocking in for their franchise (and since Transformers might be a 'one shot' (unless the fans prove otherwise, the rest of the summer is going to flounder (with Homer and the Simpsons, and Bratz (The Live action Movie) comes out..(Let's face it after Transformers, it's gonna end up looking like a flat line summer. but there might be a few surprises, but they'll be few and far inbetween.

so stay tuned.. Spidey might be busy now but by Labor day rolls around folks will be glad they had their fill of movies.

so here comes Round 1 of a three way barroom brawl.. but it'll be really all up to the moviegoers.

I knew SM3 was going to drop regardless of how well it did in the opening weekend....it's only nature. It might have dropped but I won't call it a disappointment.....it brought 60 million home, impressive, IMO.

As for Shrek, It's definitely getting #1. I'm going to go see it this weekend and I think I won't be disappointed.

Lastly, I pray to god that PotC3 does not beat SM3 record.....b/c I'm PO'ed at them for moving the release date up to match up w/ SM3. Personally, they made a wrong move by doing that. Not only are PotC3 is up against SM3 but Shrek 3 also. Now that I think about, I think it won't break SM3 record b/c of the competition w/ the SM3 and Shrek and the fact that they are promoting the hell out Shrek and as they did with SM3. Seriously, have u guys been to McDonalds/Burger King lately...ALL SHREK (MickeyD's), ALL SPIDER-MAN (Burger King), NO PIRATES IN SITE!

Although I'm a huge fan of JT, I find ur comment rather hilarious (in good way)!

You guys are bashing JT? I'm guessing mostly because he was in Nsync/boy band and is pop music?

Well if you would open your musical tastes a little bit you would see how great both of Justin's solo albums really are, they are fantastic. Both of them are truly the best POP albums to come out in a long time.

^ Althought we're sorta off topic, I agree. I own both of albums and they are AMAZING. Personally, I never saw anything wrong w/ Boy Bands especially N'SYNC! IMO, JT is the only one who has had huge success out of the whole boyband era. Sooooo, Guys (As in men not men & women), give JT his props. ;)

Indeed. I was blown away by what that guy pulled off. While I don't care for his music, he's a great actor. Really, really impressed me.

As for Spider-Man 3, whatever. Blah to it.

Spider-Man made $60,000,000

The 11 other movies in the top twelve made $36,917,000.

Of the top twelve movies SM3 accounted for 60% of money made.

Pretty impressive if you ask me.

I couldn't agree more. The fact that he got away with ripping off Janet Jackson's breast plate at the Superbowl Half Time show infront of millions of viewers, and that the FCC didn't gill him for it just infuriates me to no end!

Oh, c'mon on! It was an accident! They didn't do it intentionally. IMO, CBS shouldn't have gotten fine either. I mean, how was they suppose to know Justin was going to rip off Janet's top and show her chest. I watched the their performance and when it happened, I didn't see anything b/c CBS did switch to a different camera angle. The FCC takes things to far and too serious. Instead of tryin' to fine the company and suck up all there for expenses that didn't even tell on tv, they should have told them be more careful of what they air or something of that sort.
