pan= bread

dan= gang

jari boy= bratty boy

I have a Japanese/American and vice-versa dictionary with that particular info I just said. I will say, however, that I have lots of Hentai doujinshi (fan-comics) that are beyond disgusting.

The bug-metamorphis definition might make the whole "Ranma no hentai" bit a pun, with the way the title character of Ranma 1/2 transforms from male to female

domo arigato, shipper, for proving me right. i learned hentai from ranma 1/2 when ranma sees akane naked. how dare someone tell me i'm wrong...

Kuso is actually short for Chikuso. "Ash" says the shortened form quite a bit in Japan.

Omae o koruso- I'm going to kill you

RE: Hentai... I think the meaning's run away a bit, particularly with slang. And learning Japanese from anime does give one more sense of the everyday, youth-centered language. Hentai, it would seem to me, means various things connected with perversion, as well as bug metamorphosis... It's just a matter of defining upon context and taking into account different definitions of what is perverse to begin with.

Sailor Mercury was called a hentai when she mentioned 2 gay guys at her school in the first Sailor Moon movie.

Ranma gets into various situations where he is called a hentai, and I think it plays into the bug metamorphosis meaning as well.

As related to doujinshi/fan-comics... I'm pulling some of mine out right now. #1... The kid with the "Bellsprout" and "Brock" are vying for "Ash's" attention, more or less. That is the realm of shouen ai, boy love. #2 has "Henry" having a fever dream about Little Red Riding Takato and Takato telling "Henry" he wants to be his girlfriend. Shouen ai. #3 starts with "Ash" at home with his mom and I'd like to stop there. Hentai all right. #4 starts with Takato and "Henry" eating cherries and it progresses into Hentai terrain from there, but the end seems to indicate that Takato is dreaming.

I don't know how to spell them right, so I'll do my best....

Hai - "Yes"

Whoa-kanni-mas - "I understand"

Hya-ku - "Hurry!"

Shee-nehh - "Die!"

Suuu-kaaay - "Cool!"

Kawaii - "Cute!"

Gomen - "Sorry"

Arigato - "Thank you"

Ja or Ja ne - "See you later!"

Name endings:

san - Mr.

koi - Lover

kun - friend

chan - cutie

sama - king

simpai - teacher

Nani, Nadeh-steh, Nandeh-toh - What, What, and What did you say?

*gera gera--used to denote laughter; loosely translated, "ha-ha!"
*hikikomori. Similar to the otsaku (sp?), can be translated as "shut-in" or "empty person"; one given utterly over to technology to the point of recusiveness.

Though Spanish is my true passion. I can't say I ever heard of anyone seducing a loved one with Japanese...then again, at least it isn't German, where you spit all over the other person when you say "I love you".... lol :rolleyes:

Is anyone Japanese here? Because my aunt, who's Japanese, told me that Omae o koruso is a really bad thing to say, especially with girls, so i guess mostly boys use it a lot. I only wanted to know how to pronounce it, and she looked at me like I grew another head and asked me where I got this horrendous word from. well i didnt' want to tell her I got it from anime so I made something up. oops. my bad. :o so can someone verify that? cuz i don't think it really means "I will kill you".....

Yeah, I wanna know too, so I won't insult any oriental person.

anybody?

BTW:In the SF Alpha anime the mark that appears in Akuma's back has a double meaning in Japanese means Heaven(?!) but in Chinese means number ten, symbolizes something that is not from this world.
