They have been complaining of low ratings so it will be interesting to see how Afro Samurai (first anime series) and Modern Toss (first UK comedy show) fair.
Afro Samurai - It has big names attached to it and will be interesting to see how it does with all the publicity it got on Japanorama.
Modern Toss - UK comedy show which is rumoured to be remade for the US as it has fans at Williams Street which partly is also due to it's heavy profanity.

Well, it's nice that they're getting some action stuff, but I'm not sure Afro Samurai really counts as anime.

I count Afro as anime. It's a Japan/US coproduction.
And it is nice that Afro Samurai is airing on AS in the UK. I wish it had done that hear... I don't like watching Spike.

So, what version of Afro did they air, the Spike TV version or the director's cut version?

It was the Spike TV version it must of been the version the distributor gave them. Oh well at least we got anime.
Afro Samurai is anime as it is based on a Manga which came out in 1999. Japanorama on BBC3 showed it being made in Japan. You only have to look at the credits at the end it is overwelmingly Japanese I think Spike just help Gonzo fund it.

BTB, you said that you had your bump aired on the Bravo AS Forms, what was it?

The "I did'nt have my hand down my pants" bump!
Modern Toss was surprisingly funny. It would need a fair amount of tweaking for the US though. The sign maker with tourettes :anime:
Afro Samurai was cool. Looking forward to episode 2.

Mike Lazzo is a big fan of Modern Toss he mentioned it in a interview somewhere.
I would expect some UK shows on [adult swim] US in the future.
I also hope for some more anime on [adult swim] UK as well.

Somehow, If they get jumping at the S bomb, I don't want to think about the C mine, the C Missile or the F nuke, all of which have frequent showing on Modern toss.

It would have to go on HBO to remain truly uncensored though.
I don't know if the creators of Modern Toss would be comfortable with the editing of thier show. Lets not fool anyone the show is all about the profanity especailly Illegal Alphabet.

It would work like every UK import except Doctor Who, they'll remake it so it has a budget of at least double if not tripple the UK show.

I don't know if williams street has that big of a budget.

I don't know if williams street has that big of a budget. given the rather low spec animation of Modern Toss (not saying it's a bad thing) I don't think going for a Char budget would make [as] explode.
But here's the thing? Modern Toss, as a name, is it too British?

Cartoon Network is not the type to re-make foreign shows. That's more of a terrestrial network thing.

The quesion is, jus how much would [AS us] be able to get away with if they ported 1:1

Yeah it's not exactly a name Americans will be familiar with the term "toss".
However Mike Lazzo has stated he is a fan of British comedy I can think of a few UK shows could go on adult swim UK.
Videogaiden is off beat Scottish made look at video games it is absolutly brilliant. These guy's should be on adult swim it's like Rab C Nesbitt reviewing video games.

At least UK AS hasn't made the mistake of US AS and got Afro Samurai. I hope for the Brits' sakes that they don't cut it to hell and gone.

Does anyone have the viewing figures for Afro Samurai on Bravo?
I LURVED Modern Toss when its first series was aired on Channel 4. It's great that it's back in a new home that treats it better. :)

I just love Afro Samurai not the most complicated anime but it's definately one of the most exciting.
The action scenes are top notch I just hope Bravo/adult swim look at more anime for us UK viewers they have a real oppurtunity to capiltalise on the anime market in the UK.
Im still hoping that MTV pick up Beck, but if not it would be cool if Bravo take a chance with it.

MTV UK want everything for free they probably won't get it but I'm sure if Bravo heard that MTV want anime and Afro Samurai proves a success I'm sure they will rival MTV for it.
ADV somewhere mentioned they were in negotiations with Bravo but they broke down I'm sure if Afro Samurai does well they may start again.

Celeberty Deathmatch Revival doesn't count, that's MTV 2.

It appears [adult swim] UK has some competition at least, with the new anime block coming up.
I wonder if [adult swim] UK will go out and purchase more anime if Afro Samurai is succesful.

Checked the BARB site and unfortunately they did'nt figure in Bravo's ten most watched shows.
Any positives it might have just missed the top ten.

Finale of Afro Samurai is tonight.
I noticed the schedule has changed from 11.00pm to midnight, Afro Samurai is the 1st show (maybe it's performing better than the rest) and Modern Toss has been given the 12.30am slot.
Waiiiiiiiit
Ninja Ninja was in Afros mind?
Still good ending. Hope they pick up some more anime in the future.
And really there is alot more backstory to AfroSam.

Hopefully more anime will come to the UK [adult swim]!
I've got a feeling with anime network launchinig I think Manga and MVM might want some TV time as well, so here's hoping they could thrash out a deal with [adult swim] UK.
ADV UKs head said at London Expo that the Anime Network will not stop them doing deals with other channels - so dont rule them out.

Funny enough you should say that apparently on the SFX forums a ADV employee mentioned that they were in negotiations with Bravo, MTV and Men and Motors.
All of which have broken down but they happen to mention that they may deal with Bravo in the future.
