Okay, I have a question. I was skipping through channels today, and I saw that the show "Arthur" was on, so I decided to watch it for a few minutes, and watching the episode, something dawned on me. Some of the characters are a like lots of the characters on the show, "Hey Arnold" (without the irreverence, of course): Arnold and Arthur; Gerald and Buster; Harold and Binky Barnes; Rhonda and Francine; and Lila and Muffy. Could "Hey Arnold" have been influenced by the show, "Arthur", or is it just a small coincidence? Ideas?

Arthur to Arnold
Buster to Gerald
Lila to Muffy
Francine to Helga
Harold to Binky
Pheobe to Brain
They both premiered in 1996, so Arnold is for big kids and Arthur is for little kids

Actually these characters predate Hey Arnold, since they were in book form before the show. They were kid books released in the late 80's and early 90's.

They're called character archetypes. You'll find them in just about any production with a young cast of characters aimed towards a younger crowd.

Someone once thought the characters from Marc Brown's Arthur were copied from the characters in Archie comics.

In my opinion, the Arthur TV series almost looked like it was modeled from the Archie TV series (1960's)!

Actually, I think it would probably be more like Rhonda to Muffy

True, but there are so many cliches and archetypes. So why do the same ones get used, without much of a variation?
