Hi Gang:

Just doing a promotion for an early sound series that was released by MGM back in the late 20s.The name of the series was Called, "THE DOGVILLE COMEDIES" and these are not cartoons, but actual talking dogs dressed up as humans.I have posted the entire history off these classic "cult" two reelers on the Termite Terrace Trading Post for which TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES will air tomorrow evening, late tues/early wed at 12:30am(ET) 9:30pm (PT) watch these comedy shorts since the are very controversial pictures.Just go to TTTP and learn the facts on this great series.

Why on earth are they 'very controversial pictures'? (I hope it's not because the dogs are being mistreated.)

That is a very good part of the rumors surrounding the series, I have been doing research of the "Dogvilles" for over six years and to be honest, people will have mixed feelings about seeing these classic gems.Another reason why the DVC are controversial is it's use of racial stereotypes in many of the films. One short in praticular 1931s "TRADER HOUND" contains images of dogs in blackface speaking with a southern dialog which this short is considered banned and TCM will present this film tomorrow night. But getting back about the dogs themselves, the dogs were not mistreated during the three years of the series for which many people have thought. There has been a strong rumor(a couple of years ago) that a group of animal rights actvists tried to have the "Dogvilles" completly banned from the public, but there is no evdience of this story ever happening.
