Seeing so many music posts popping up, I got inspired to do my own. :p So what's your favorite movie soundtrack, whether it be a compilation of songs or movie score track? Is there a favorite composer perhaps?

I'm a big soundtrack fan, especially movie scores. Dragonheart by Randy Edelman is one of my favorites along with Braveheart, Willow, Balto, Apollo 13, Glory all by James Horner. Then there's Michael Kamen's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and John Barry's Dances with Wolves, Thomas Newman's Little Women soundtrack starring Winona Ryder. Danny Elfman's got a nice style, very unique with a haunting beauty in all of his work which Edward Scissorhands, Beetle Juice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and of course Batman are my favorites. Then there's John Williams. Who can leave this guy out in a soundtracks topic?! My favorite all time theme he's written is The Raider's March from Indiana Jones. Star Wars and Superman are great too, as well as Schindler's List and Jurassic Park. Alan Menken, best known for his work with Disney films, he has written great songs and scores from The Little Mermaid to Newsies to The Hunchback of Notre Dame. All of which I like very much, my favorite being The Little Mermaid

There's so much I could type on this, but I'll leave it at that for now. :D

I'm a big fan of the Aliens soundtrack score by James Horner. Also, I love the Gladiator soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. Zimmer has been around a lot lately. He did Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, and I think Hannibal, but I'm not sure on that one. I also love the soundtracks from Superman and Superman 2. As for the Raiders March, I find myself humming that theme a lot lately. It came from hearing about all the Indy 4 news lately.

Indy 4... I personally wouldn't have expected it to happen, so it was a pleasant surprise to hear Spielberg will go with it after he finishes another project. I thought it was fitting for them to play the Indy theme for Harrison Ford at the Golden Globes. When I think of him, I think Indiana Jones. The guy is Indiana Jones! :D

I haven't listened to Horner's Aliens soundtrack, but I've heard a lot of good things about it. Hans Zimmer is a good one too. I remember him best for The Lion King and Backdraft (Iron Chef on FoodTV uses Backdraft's theme for the show :p). Shirley Walker, composer of BTAS and STAS, conducted the orchestra recording Backdraft. Heh, just a little sidenote.

Ooh, anyone know of Gettysburg by Randy Edelman? It's one I'm considering getting.

Well, Twilight, since you and I are big He-Man and She-Ra fans, I have to say I'm a big fan of the background music for both shows by Shuki Levy and Haim Saban. Sadly, I can't find any of that music anywhere.

I thought the Golden Globe thing was pretty cool when they played the Indy music for him.

You should try and listen to Aliens. It's a very a creepy and scary CD to listen too. I say this, cause Aliens too is one of my all time favorite movies.

It's amazing now that I think about it how John Williams has come up with the themes to some of the all time best movies. Superman, Star Wars, Jaws. I don't know if he did Indiana Jones or E.T. He seems to like Spielberg and Lucas.

Dude, I know so many He-Fans and She-Ravers would love to have the background music from the two series. The closest thing I got to that was the extended version of the He-Man theme. What I like best about their music is that it's very tailored to the He-Man and She-Ra characters and background.

I'll definitely check out Aliens. You and others are making me very curious. :)

Duke Ellington's score for Anatomy of a Murder was sheer perfection probobly one of the best Jazz scores you'll find ever.
Oh Brother Wher Art Thou ? has some great blugrass and old-school Honky Tonk tracks which are very good.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I think managed to incorperate many different into a great cohesive score

Some Others: Touch of Evil-Henry Mancini
A Shot in the Dark-Mancini
Shaft- Issac Hayes
Superfly-Curtis Mayfield
Ed Wood-Danny Elfman

Highlander-Done completely by Queen. Had some great songs like Gimme the prize and who want's to live forever

Less than Zero- Various. Bangles- Hazy shade of winter and Slayers version of Inna Gadda da vida stick out in my mind.

The lost boys- also various. hmm, can't remember the songs that make this one great right now, other than the main theme.

Wow, I thought I was the only person who actually liked Saban and Levy's music for their shows. Despite some things that I've said about Saban in the past :p . I actually bought the Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie soundtrack and liked it. I just wish they had put out the music from Power Rangers in Space, I loved the battle music.

As far as my all time favorite movie soundtrack goes, it would have to be Transformers the Movie. Never in any other movie, animated or live action, has the music fit the on screen action better than that score. It wasn't just some random songs made to stick into a movie to sell CD's that don't correlate to the movie at all like in recent years.

Here's some good soundtracks from my CD case. As you can see, they represent several varying styles of music, so there's something in there for everybody. They are in no particular order, although I probably listen to Armageddon the most.

- The Cable Guy
- A Night At The Roxbury
- Armageddon
- Space Jam
- Back To The Future
- Batman & Robin
- Man On The Moon
- American Psycho
- O Brother, Where Art Thou?

My favorite composer is probably Jerry Goldsmith. I loved his work on the trek films First Contact and Insurrection. Other favorite scores are Elfman's Batman and Ron Jones score to TNG's "Best of Both Worlds."

Wow, I forgot about that one. That's one of my favorite ones too!

I find myself listening to that one the most out of all my soundtracks. I have the offical one and then I was able to download ALL of Vince DiCola's score tracks from TF:TM which was sold only at BotCon as an exclusive CD that was put out about 2 or 3 years ago. The all score CD is VERY cool. The CD shows up on ebay every now and then, but it usually closes at a pretty steep price.

-2001:A Space Odyssey-I can never get through a day without hearing "Requiem For Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Two Mixed Choirs & Orchestra" by Ligeti.
-Once upon a Time in America-Master composer Ennio Morricone's score has the most emotional music I've ever heard in a film.
-Natural Born Killers-A distorted arrangement of all kinds of music is put to brilliant use.
-Superfly-Already mentioned..But worth repeating.
-Anthology:A Fistul of Music-An Ennio Morricone compliation spawning 4 decades of his work. Among them, THE GOOD,THE BAD,AND THE UGLY,FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE,THE MISSION,and BUGSY.
-American Psycho-A couple of favorite 80s tunes on this one...
-The Serpent & The Rainbow-Brad Fidel, of T2 fame, provides a haunting, similar sound with this Craven film.
-The Phantom Menace-"Duel of the Fates"..'Nuff said.
-Twin Peaks-I don't know one person who hates Angelo Badalamenti's theme song.
-Jackie Brown-Tarantino has a similar taste of oldies as me.
-The Thin Red Line-Hans Zimmer's work shines in this one. Sadly, not all of the music that was featured in the film appears on this CD.

Easily.

Vertigo
Psycho
North by Northwest
The Trouble with Harry
Marnie
Citizen Kane (including an opera aria, fer pete's sake)
The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad
Cape Fear

and on and on and on. . . .

Goldsmith is good, but Williams is way over-rated (ducks the flying debris).

and I am glad to say I have them all on CD.

Miklos Roza is superb. ( especially The Thief of Bagdad and the 1940s version of The Jungle Book )
But my all time favourite composer is Akira Ifukube. He composed a lot of stuff for Japanese movies from the 1940s to the mid 90s ( including some of the Godzilla series, Rodan, Chushingura, The Three Treasures etc...) but his non soundtrack classical compositions are amongst the best music I've ever heard. Sadly, most of his stuff can only be bought on import CD from Japan and it can be pretty expensive :(

"The Land Before Time"--James Horner
"Back to the Future"--Alan Silvestri/Huey Lewis and the News (among other artists)
"Music for a Darkened Theater"--Danny Elfman (a smorgasbord of some of his best early stuff, including suites from the first "Batman" movie, "Dick Tracy," "Beetlejuice," the two Pee-Wee Herman movies, plus some lesser known movie and TV scores ("The Simpsons," "Face Like a Frog," "Nightbreed" et. al.)
"The Sting"--Marvin Hamlisch
"Best of Godzilla Vol. 1 1954-1973"--Akira Ifukube

I also have the "Ghostbusters" and "The Woman in Red," and the "La Bamba" soundtracks, but I don't play them as much on my CD/DVD player. I also like James L. Venable, but I gotta wait till a)I see the movies and b)I have the money to buy his ST's for
Iron Monkey and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (The BG score for this flick is on the Varese Sarabande label).
And I wish, I wish, I WISH they'd release a soundtrack
of his best stuff from Samurai Jack (no "Music from and Inspired By" or disco remixes!)

My little brother has the soundtracks to Grease and Little Shop of Horrors (the movies, not the stage versions). They are both very good.

Well, I'll post the Unmentioned B5 Soundtracks (I own two of them) Chris Franke is awesome!
(The Crusade/Call to arms stuff was another composer, who I didn't like)

I also have the BB soundtrack, and Star Wars, SW:TPM,

I also have the Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay & Silent Bob soundtracks, good rock, funny sound bites, =D

Mine are sorta random.

"O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (the down home songs were the best part of the movie, since Holly Hunter doesn't sing anything)
"Labyrinth" (I like David Bowie)
"Dumb & Dumber" (an old favorite with good alt rock)

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

The "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door" soundtrack (a.k.a. Cowboy Bebop: Future Blues) rocks like a freakin' hurricane! "7 Minutes" is one of the best techno songs in the history of man. The soundtrack to "Saving Private Ryan" is really good too, if you're a instrumental geek like me.
