Pardon my ignorance, but are we talking about ending themes or the end of series? With the current amount of threads about opening themes, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

If we're talking best/worst endings to a series, then...
Best- Cowboy Bebop (Just makes me tear up thinking about it)
Worst- Dragon Ball Z (Goku abandons his family to train the spawn of the greatest evil the world has ever faced? I hate this ending so much. Unfortunately, GT made it worse.)

I guess everyone's opinion is differnt as to what makes an ending "good" or "bad"....In my case,I just don't like unresolved endings(which usually happen when the anime is ended before the manga....Fullmetal Alchemist is an exception, but after the early volumes, the anime stopped following the manga,anyway...)

Bad Endings to otherwise good anime....

Ranma 1/2 (the manga does have an ending, which I do like, but other people I know don't)...

Inuyasha (the manga's STILL Running, and just hit chapter 500 a couple weeks ago, with no ending in sight)....

Fruits Basket(the manga's done,and IMO,has a great ending)....I love this series,and wish they'd made more episodes...

Good Endings....

Fullmetal Alchemist....I like the TV series ending more, but the movie's ending is alright....

Fushigi Yuugi:The Mysterious Play.....Again,I like the TV series end best, but the OAV series endings are OK...

Tenchi Universe...Thought it was really sweet...

Magic Knight Rayearth.....First season ending is really sad,though....the second season ending is happier....

Escaflowne....A bit bittersweet, but a good ending.....(it's been a couple years since I've seen the series, but I just got the series on DVD,so I'm watching it again)....

Sailor Moon....any of the first four series have decent endings(haven't seen Sailor Stars, though I do like the way the manga ended)...

Manga-wise,my favorite ending is Maison Ikkoku....It wraps everything up really nicely....

My friend was saying how the Ending to Wing was really stupid seeing how Relena was yanking on a Rino's tail and the fact shes out in the middle of freaking no where.

They were trying to make her look good, but i guess...not.

I'm a bit biased here, but I'm gonna' say Vision of Escaflowne for certain. Like Luna said, it is a bittersweet ending, but it's my favorite because it ties up most all loose ends very nicely, doesn't leave you with a "WTF" moment, is very emotional and leaves you wanting more without being frustrated that there isn't more, and just overall is executed very well. One of those endings that makes me realize how great a journey the whole show was, and makes me want to go straight back to the beginning and see it all over again.

So, that little fanboy squeal over with, honerable mentions include:

Outlaw Star - wraps everything up well, and ends on a happy, energetic "life goes on" note. What more could you want?

Cardcaptor Sakura - An ending that really rewards the viewer and all the "OMG, do I like Li Shaoran, or not?" the viewer has to put up with from Sakura, and very well executed. I'm not ashamed to admit I was crying like a baby with this ending.

Digimon Adventure 01 - Another somewhat bittersweet ending that has a very well done epilogue, IMO. Nevermind that Adventure 02 comes along and completely ruins this ending and everything it was supposed to mean.

Armored Trooper VOTOMS - Cheesy... in a good way. It ends with a certain image that I didn't know whether to laugh my ass off at how cheesy it was, or cry because, at the same time, it was rather emotional.

And some worst ones? Pretty much anything that doesn't end. Y'know, the Groove Adventure Raves, Inuyashas, etc.

Best endings (as in final episodes):
Azumanga Daioh
Ghost in the Shell 2ND GIG
Outlaw Star
Paranoia Agent
Samurai 7
Tenchi Universe
Vandread: Second Stage

I don't think Inuyasha should count for either list because, technically, it didn't end.

I won't do a list of "good" and "bad", but a few notable ones are:

Maison Ikkoku--Probably the most definitive and "happiest" ending in all of anime (that i've seen), which is ironic because RUmiko Takahashi is notorious for often not even ending her series.

Giant Robo--Yes, it has a gimmick teaser at the end, but the end to the series itself is a real shocker and ironically tragic on a nearly Shakespearean level.

Gundam 0080--Ultimate tearjerker

Kimagure Orange Road movie 1--The harshest ending to a love triangle you'll ever see, and also the gutsiest ending. TV-series-spanning friendships end and feelings are hurt forever.

GOOD ENDINGS

Fruits Basket - Really beautiful ending to a beautiful series. The confrontation between Tohru and Akito was so moving, and quite a surprised.

Cutie Honey - Love it. A fast-moving ending, excellent face off between Sister Jill and Honey. Although open-ended, the final scene gives a nice "closure". Tsuji Masaki you are GOD! : D

Dororon Enma-kun - I was alittle afraid of how this was gonna end. It didn't have much of a storyline, yet it had a really great finale. The fight between Enma-kun and Daikinkai was extremely badass.

Majokko Megu - What an excellent last episode. It really shows how much Megu has grown over time.

BAD ENDINGS

Tokimeki Tonight: A really, really terrible ending. Episode focuses too much on Shun, and not on Ranze. Shun finds out he's the long-lost prince, but never admits it. Ranze, Shun, and Yoko's love triangle is left unresolved. Add insult to injury, the series closes with Ranze, Shun, and Yoko TRIPPING, and FALLING. If it hadn't been for the last episode ending (with everyone dancing to Super Love Lotion) and some funny scenes I would've completely dismissed it.

Iga no Kabamaru: Actually, this did had a great ending But the last episode is a complete parody that ends the series in a goofy way. (Think of Excel Saga's last episode)

Demon Lord Dante: A bad ending to a bad series. Took the "restart everything" route.

The Big O II: Completely confusing, a complete mish-mash of "imagery". Give me R-D back, damn it.

Another good one was Gundam X. It would have been better had the series been allowed to run its full length, but in spite of being cancelled they managed to wrap things up well and bring it to a satisfying and believable conclusion.

Then there's Turn-A Gundam, which ends well in many respects, but tips back towards the "WTF?" end of the scale in a few others, such as:

He married her? Why?

He married her? Why?

Well, he worshipped the ground she walked on. And she was lonely. I don't think it was THAT surprising.

Best ending? Hmmm...

~Revolutionary Girl Utena had a pretty great ending. The series AND the movie, even if the movie WAS a bit weird (even for Utena standards).

Worst Ending:

~Death Note. I know the series hasn't finished in America yet, but I've heard random spoilers and own both the movies, and....let's just say ifthe series ends the way the movie does (+Mello, Near, Mikami, etc.) then I may just want to go die

~Petshop of Horrors. What...the......hell?

Somewhere in the middle would be Yu-Gi-Oh. I don't know what to make of this ending. It's pretty good, but DAMN it's a long ending.

I didn't like Escaflowne's ending, it really bothered me You find your true love, overcome immpossible odds, then decide to be apart from one another, for what, high school? , it was a good ending as far as endings go, but not what I wanted to see happen.

Peacemaker has a really bad ending, nothing gets wrapped up, you have just as many question as when you started, and it seems like the story should go on at least 20 more episodes.

It's Ending made me mad that I wasted my time watching that whole series.
It was actally pretty good up to the last 3 eps or so, But they then took
that time to pretty much destroy the entire thing. Of all the anime I have seen, This is the only ending that I REALLY hate.
