View Full Version : A Death in the Family

Not since Jason Todd has the Bat had to deal with a death in his 'family'. Sure, Batgirl was crippled and Commisioner Gordon's wife killed, but what about the others? So, a question for all:
If you could (not literally) kill off one of the major 'heroes' in the Batman continuity (comics, animated, etc.) who would it be and why?
Me, I'd take out Huntress. She's not a very rounded character (well, 'rounded' may not be the right word. growwwww!:D ) and now that there's a new Batgirl she's rather redundent. Plus it'd be interesting to see how the Bat reacts to someone he says he disapproves of yet let's operate in 'his' city, not to mention the emotional impact on Dick Grayson.
So, who would your choice be folks?

"Six people are dead because you failed."
"And you blame ME?!"
"No. I hold you RESPONSIBLE."

I'd like to see the entire "family" wasted exept Batman (duh!), Robin, Nightwing, Oracle, Huntress, and maybe Azrael if I'm in a good mood..... and I'd like The Joker to do all of the wasting (he's just so good at killing, crippling, or driving insane those stupid little partners!) :D

Really?? She's about the only one I'd keep! I used to hate her character, but once Rucka got a hold of her, she's become a much more well rounded character, IMO.

Who would I kill off? Robin, Oracle, Batgirl, Azrael. None of them interest me, and most of them come across to me as boring. I'd keep Batman, Huntress, and Nightwing.

I'd kill Arezal. His a murderer. Althught he reminds me of Punisher, he doesn't have a reason to kill people.

well, i'd have to get rid of azrael. i don't konw very much about him, but he seems a bit of a loose cannon. and why kill batgirl? i think she's awesome. besides, based on the fact that she can dodge about anything, you have a hard time killing her off. i don't know if there would be anyone fast enough to take her on...

I just can't stand her. In my opinion, the best thing they ever did to the Batman comics was cripple Barbara Gordon. I've never been a fan of any of the Batgirl incarnations, and this latest one just annoys me. I hated her origin, her background, everything. The whole mute girl trained by an assassin father just came across as way to hokey to me, and I didn't care for how they added her to the team.

i am going to very bold and say 'batman.' don't bother getting your guns and knives because i am invincible. of course i'm just talking about an 'elseworld' type of story. don't if it has been done already, but gotham will be shaken up forever; moreso than the earthquake of no man's land. someone has to take on the mantle the of bat just so there is the batman presence that will keep some of the villains at bay. but who is the one who can fill bruce's very big shoes. nightwing tried that once when bruce's back got broken and that didn't work out. it is obviously not going to be jean paul valley. so who could it possibly be? this could be such a huge story.

There may be trouble ahead ..........

I'd go for Tim. Knock off another Robin to drive the B-Man totally over the edge!

First off, I think this post is quite malicious in nature. But hey, it makes for a good topic.

Killing off another Robin would be too easy. You know what I think would make Batman's dynamic more interesting. Killing someone closer to him than anybody. Alfred. Other than Dr. Thomkins, he's the closest thing to family. He took care of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Now he takes care (or was taking care*) of Bruce. Alfred is Bruce's last living connection between his deceased parents and himself. I think Alfred's death would be taken more personal by Batman than any other characters death.

And the person I'd like to see take him out would be Clayface. Can you imagine. Clayface's cold blooded murder of Bruce's right hand man. Then Clayface reproduces himself to look like Alfred, then Clayface actually lives with Wayne to uncover his secret identity. How wicked.

Killing off another superhero would be too easy. Killing an innocent buttler and care taker, now that's cold blooded.

*Read the Officer Down series. Alfred leaves Batman in the dust.

VERY nice concept. Didn't think about that one.

Hey, Nightwing is a cop now in the comics. He could die in the line of duty.
It's a thought. I don't like the idea thought. He's too cool to die like that. If he does some acrobatic feat to avoid death, he could explain that he was in a circus when he was younger and it would check out.

Azrael. He is a murderer.

And I would kill of Spoiler if you even consider apart of the family.

And maybe if Nightwing died I'd like to see how Bruce reacts.

The person I would kill off is BATGIRL in the animated series and in the comics. I find her a nuissance (need spell check ) to the Batman family. I would keep Azrael alive, he gave a certain crazy edge as the Batman.

Nice, Beyond Batman. Very nice. You're as twisted as I. I like that. :)

Anywho, I believe to really mess with good ol' Batsy's mind, they should kill of Leslie Thompkins. Everyone would be in an uproar--Bat-clan and city alike--and ALFRED would even be hunting for blood, imho. I doubt it, just a thought.

Realisticly, though, they should off the Batgirl in the comics. She's minor, and annoying.

Beyond Bats, could you tell me why Alfred leaves Bats in dust during "Officer Down"? I know he did, but I didn't read the comics, stupid town doesn't have a comic store >kicks Hickville< so could you just tell why Alfed ditches Bruce? Thanks.

This is a spoiler to the Officer Down saga, so if you don't want to be spoiled... do not read beyond this point. Silverknight, I hope I explain this properly. Here we go.

So Gordon gets shot! A nasty blow to the Bat family. The story begins with Gordon getting shot. The run of the story is finding out who did it. Thus everyone is out trying to find out who shot Gordon, everyone but Batman. From the moment Gordon was found and brought to the hospital, Batman stays by his bedside, while the rest of the crew was left with the mess of finding out who did it. Somewhere in the middle of the story, Alfred has a talk with Batman, saying he'd be more useful finding the criminal rather than grieving, being at Gordan's bedside. For some reason, Batman snaps, and the weight of his anger falls onto Alfred. That's the moment where Alfred walks out on Batman.

Hope that gives you a better picture of what happened.

:D

Oh. Okay.

Hey, if you ever feel like giving me a more detailed synopsis of what happens, my email is dark_nite2000@yahoo.com. :) Thanks for the info. Alfred probably felt unappreciated, and hell I'd leave too if the Bat were yelling at me. :D
