It's the first thing on the main page. I remember saying in the talkback thread, "I wonder if some of the new scenes is an extended version of the love scene in episode two?" Well, I guess I was right after all.:D
Also, some of the lines in the Spike TV version were redubbed to be less harsher. You'll see what I mean when you see the trailer.
Well, I'm sold. Although it's obvious RZA hasn't heard of Champloo.
Any anime that scores Daily Show level ratings is good for the medium.

True, although to be fair to him, he is making great music instead. He probably doesn't have time to look up Champloo(working on new Wu-Tang album, etc).

I can see why WOWOW aired the Director's Cut on their network over Fuji TV airing it.

I'm not holding it against him, just heading off the endless "Champloo did it first!" arguments.

Why are people saying it ripped off Champloo? I mean Ruroni Kenshin/Samurai X is a samurai anime too.

Yes, but Champloo uses hip-hop as its soundtrack, just like Afro Samurai.
Of course, I believe Afro was a manga before both anime series were made, so the claim of Afro ripping off Champloo isn't really fair (unless someone wants to correct me)
You get these idiotic complaints mostly on the AS message boards.
Truth is, Afro and Champloo have little in common, except that they both have samurai, hip hop, and kick a lot of ass.

OK! I understand now!

He doesn't actually say that hip hop culture has never been combined with samurais and animation before, he just says that it's never been done to this magnitude before.

Wow, looks amazing will definitely be picking this up on the 22nd. And wow they seem to really turn it up a notch with the love scene in this director's cut.

I liked this a lot. I've never seen Samurai Champloo, but IDK why anyone would care about simalarities. A LOT of animes are similar, in themes or titles. You'd think there'd be a problem with Digimon and Pokemen or Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Panic but no one cares.
That being said, Afro Samurai kicks ASS. I bought the director's cut and was not dissapointed. The story was weak, but like Sam said in the special features, it's supposed to be simple and easy to follow.
I hope they make more.
EDIT: I found the fighting to be a little slow-paced, but it's synced to the hip-hop which is very steady beats. I guess I'm more into rock and orchestral music, so I like fights synced to those rise-and-fall rythems. I wish the animation had been more streamlined (like Justice League Unlimited) to cut costs. While what we have is awesome, I wish there was more (and there will never be much even if they do make more because of costs).

True it was said on the Special Features of the Director's Cut 2nd Disc. The concept has been in the creator's head for at least a decade as they say. Though I dunno part of me says rip-off still and just trying to cover their butts, another part of me says "Spiritual Successor"
(P.S., the package for the Director's Cut is just plain awesome)

So, is someone from TZ(like Speedy Boris or Karl Olson) going to review the Director's Cut for TZ?

Well, IDK. People can concieve similar concepts completely independant of each other.
A year ago I concieved a story called "Buffalo Samurai", about a black Samurai in the 1800s. I'd never heard of Samurai Champloo or Afro Samurai. My character was based on John Stewart Green Lantern from Justice League and Ronin from Stargate: Atlantis. But since Afro came out, my friends are all like "OMG, you ripped that off from Afro Samurai."
These are some of my sketches:

Nothing in the designs are similar to Afro or Champloo (if anything I was ripping off Bruce Timm). But that doesn't stop my friends from making comments.

So, is someone from TZ(like Speedy Boris or Karl Olson) going to review the Director's Cut for TZ? There's a screener that's going out to -someone-, though I didn't claim it because I had bought the D.C. the day it came out. But yes, one is coming.

Also bought the DC, and outside of maybe reviewing the Haruhi v.1 LE, there are other screeners I've slacked off on reviewing that take priority ahead of maybe reviewing Afro.

I can write a review. My grammar is good. I know I don't post much on the anime board, but I'm a staple of the DCAU forums. I'd love to be a guest reviewer.
I'm a big fan of the Afro Samurai series, and I could share my thoughts on both this cut of the film and the actual DVD set.

We've already got someone lined up probably. Rather, we already had too many people calling dibs on the screener.
Trust me a review will be written. Question is, which member of the awesome TZ review team will it be? Maybe Chad? Maybe Duke? I guess we'll have to wait and see ;)
