View Full Version : GameFly alternatives
A while ago I gave GameFly a shot. Sure, they have a great selection of games, but with only one storage house--and in LA, no less--it takes quite a while for someone in the midwest to receive their games.
So, my question is, are there any good alternatives to GameFly? Of course, I'd prefer one with their quality level, but with more than 1 location.
Any info is certainly appreciated!

I live on the east coast and I usually received games in as short as 3 days. I think the longest I waited was around 6.
I remember Electric Gaming Monthly did a comparison of online-rental gaming services way, way back (I think around 2 years ago?), and out of all the places they tried I only see Gamefly still around.
But a quick search turned this up:

A comparison of various video game rental sites, so you can search around there for an alternative (I think the list might be a bit dated though, not sure).

Honestly, I don't see anything much better than Gamefly happening until either Netflix or Blockbuster Online start carrying video games, because even with movies, those are the only two operations with enough distro centers to reach the entire country evenly.

I do believe GameFly has opened an east coast distribution center, but haven't initiated it in full. As an Atlanta native, I know the problems of GameFly, but the benefits outweigh the negatives for me... for now.

Yeah, it takes some time getting games, as I live in Florida, but it's a great service. (Also, they messed up with my account, I pay for 2 games at a time, but I get 3 :D)

I have had one problem (they didn't receive a game I sent), but that's a universal thing. Still, having had it for almost a year, I was about to cut it (did what I wanted to for a while, and could use cash), but Pokemon Pearl coming out makes me want to reignite my Poketheif skills.

A but with only one storage house--and in LA, no less--it takes quite a while for someone in the midwest to receive their games. And it dosen't help that around my neiborhood the mail service is really darn slow, forget 1st class shipping (in my 'hood) you might aswell just go with regular shipping, heck you'll be lucky if you get what you order! I brought a Speed Racer vol.3 DVD months ago and still haven't gotten it yet!
Ah, another Missourian. Someone who can share my pain. ^_^
I've decided to give Gamerang (www.gamerang.com) a shot, as I heard it's one of the best alternatives on various websites.

Be sure to let us know how it works out. (Another interested Missouri person).

Yeah, I think I'll jump into gamefly since the local Blockbusters are pathetic in what they have... or rather DON'T have.

Yeah, I think I'll jump into gamefly since the local Blockbusters are pathetic in what they have... or rather DON'T have. Plus its $8.00 to rent any game including ones you can buy used for $5.00! Yea their stock sucks and $8.00 is pricey compared to the original $5.00, have they raised their prices at all?

I don't see Netflix getting into the game business, but I'm surprised Blockbuster hasn't gone after Gamefly
If either Netflix or Blockbuster went into games, I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. Both services are superb when it comes to movies.

Agreed. I just recently got into Blockbuster Online.
Very efficient.

Thanks for bringing this topic back up, I had forgotten to say how Gamerang was.
So far, it's working out decently. Faster than GameFly, but still not particularly fast enough for my tastes. I'm going to give it until the end of the month, then I'll decide whether to keep it or not.
GameFly opened a center in Pittsburg, eh? At least that'll make a lot more states happy...perhaps when they start shipping games to Missouri I'll give 'em another shot...perhaps.
