This was a discussion at another board that involved the making of an adaption of the Manga comic book series.

Get the director of Princess Monokoe, should this happen?

Could this work?

You are probably thinking of the manga adaptation of Star Wars done by Hisao Tamaki. Below is a URL to an article from Animerica about the series:

Negative. I had heard in the rumor a bit after the magnas came out that anime versions were being produced.

not to sound rude or anything, but I'm opposed to an anime version of Star Wars, I probably wouldn't even enjoy an American animated version. Half the fun of Star Wars is the special effects, you can't have those in animations.

What would be great to see animated is a great lightsaber battle. An anime Star Wars could really do some brilliant stuff with that. I'd particularly like to see Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Dromma's rise to power brought to animated life.

As far as special effects, yes they could use CGI backgrounds and ships. But it would look weird, they could do what they did in Tarzan, use the deep canvas background for space. It would be flawless.

Also, Mark Hamil could do the voice over again. Although I don't think he would go back to that again. George could do the movie over again properly, showing things that only he could have imagined in animation without it looking stupid like Phantom Menace. The special effects in live action looks cartoonish, but in Animation, it could have a more powerful effect.

Phantom Menace never looked stupid or cartoonish. The visuals were without a doubt brilliant. The problem was that the story was severely lacking. But I would like to see an anime Star Wars because of the style that it would bring. I've always loved comics and what can be accomplished in them, with some of the Star Wars titles being among my favorites. Anime would be a perfect way to bring that to the screen.

Phantom Menace's SFX--The human actors were looking PAST Jar Jar Binks when they were talking to him. 'Nuff said!

That said, I haven't heard of an anime Star Wars in production. But what the heck, there are tons of Star Wars anime variations (i.e. clones, copycats, ripoffs) out there, so you'd get an idea what it'd be like just by looking around. The SFX won't be too different from what we've seen in anime before. Look at Cowboy Bebop. Lots of SFX there could conceivably be a glimpse of what an anime Star Wars world could look like in animation.

Personally, if they DID make an animated Star Wars movie, I'd rather they tckle on a never-before-filmed story (such as any from the comics or novels). That way you get newcomers to those story a very cool, very intriguing part of the saga they otherwise might have missed.

And hey, the story could have cameos of famous folk from the films and endless amount of Lightsaber battles :D :D :D

If they do an animated Star Wars movie, they need to do Shadows of the Empire.

Yeah, it should be an expanded universe story, not any of the existing films.

I think the perfect Star Wars animated series would be one based on the X-Wing series of books, it has a lot of similarities to 08th MS Team actually, that whole average soldier thing. I think this could actually be a show, or a 12 episode arc like 08th MS Team.

Thrawn trilogy would also probably make a good OVA, though after reading the comics and seeing the beautiful artwork in that...I'm not sure I'd like an animized Grand Admiral.

They need to make a SOTE movie, animated or not.

How about JawaForce? :p

Or Ewoks hunting down humans, mowing 'em down and serving them as dinner? Those nasty little things eat human flesh, I tell you

Yes, using material from the books and comics would definitely be cool. Show us what happened in between Episodes 4, 5, and 6 as well as the films we did see.

Isn't that what they doing with the Matrix. Putting out an all anime flick on DVD before the next films.

Actually, it's a Matrix oav series. It's being produced and directed in Japan by Studio Madhouse, the same studio that made Ninja Scroll, X, and the new Vampire Hunter D. I've seen some artwork, they'll kick ass. :)

They are also resurrecting Akira Kurosawa so he can make some PS2 game. I think Kurosawa should also be asked direct the new Star Wars movie since he is George Lucas mentor & friend. Hell, Star Wars is somewhat based on 1 of his movies.

They need Hugh Jackman to voice Dash Rendar...

heck Hugh Jackman LOOKS like Dash Rendar...

and they could easily make 3 movies after RoTJ if they base it on already existing material...

Well, I think the Star Wars manga is pretty cool, so I can see a Star Wars anime working too. Though I wouldn't really want them to be remakes of the original trilogies. I'd prefer the anime to be based on non-filmed stories (like Shadows of the Empire, as was already mentioned).

Definately bad idea. Star Wars is a great series. We don't need to kill it.

no if they're making an animated movie, it needs to be of Timothy Zahn's Dark Empire trilogy
