View Full Version : Show some love for under-appreciated sports
Baseball. Basketball. Football. It seems we can't turn a corner without seeing something associated with these sports, as well as several others.
But what about some underappreciated sports? How often do you hear someone say, "Hey, how about a game of dodgeball tag?" or, "Let's play some ultimate frisbee!" Hey, why bother playing those when you could play a game of baseball or basketball, huh?
So, share your thoughts of these under-appreciated sports. Why don't we widen out when it comes to the sports we play? What lesser-known sports do you enjoy?

Badminton anyone?Badminton is made of win. I love that game.
Ping-pong is also ultimate win.
I actually play college softball... I'd say softball under appreciated since people seem to just think of it as girly-baseball.

I'm a volleyball man, myself. That was one I always looked forward to playing in P.E. in high school because it was one of the few sports I was good at. Don't get to see too many games, but every so often I catch one on ESPN. Just wish I was able to play it more often.

... I completely misread the title of this thread, just a second ago. I thought it said, "Show some love for under-aged girls."
But then I saw that Knux didn't make the thread.

Those all get plenty of love already on ESPN 8: The Ocho. (-:
In all seriousness, though, Frisbee Golf is the greatest invention known to man.

Equestrian jumping, though, that's something I'd rather watch than do. I'll stick to being on a horse that doesn't leave the ground. ;)

And so is air hockey ^^I don't think there's a game made that gets me more wound up playing, and you never have to chase a stray ball. :p But mom only gives me so many quarters. :crying:

I'll stick to being on a horse that doesn't leave the ground. ;) Three Day Eventing is the only thing in the Olympics that I like. I wanted a Dutch Warmblood, but I wasn't born to that side of the family and they are awfully high to fall from. Four in hand carriage competition is really fun to watch too.
Sumo is fun to watch. I'd like to try kendo. And I'd love speed pistol shooting

If the puck doesn't go flying at least once while you play air hockey, you're playing it wrong. (-:

Gah! That hurts if it flies at you... which has happened far too many times to me. I love air hockey, but it leaves bruises.

No. Sorry, but I don't even appreciate the over-appreciated sports. The only sports that I really like to watch is Girls Lacrosse, and maybe Ultimate Frisbee (playing in it too).

My favorite lesser-known sports are curling, archery, ping pong, air hockey, rowing, water polo, polo, sled dog racing, and croquet. Although, I do not actually watch these sports.

One Christmas, I asked for a dart board.... You wouldn't believe how many times I had to convince my parents that I could play the game properly...
Other awesome sports include ping-pong, air hockey and pinball.(I love the sounds a pinball machine makes. )

Lacrosse all the way, baby. Unfortunately, my closest team was Albany Attack and they moved to California. So now my dad and I just go to college games.

Oh, I forgot about cricket. We played that in my sophomore gym class and I had a blast playing it. Probably my favorite thing we did the whole two years.
In the USA, cricket needs some love. Without cricket, there'd be no baseball. Speaking of baseball, us Brits need our own b-ball league, or at least a team in the MLB! Toronto gets a team! Puerto Rico pretty much had the Expos that last year! Why can't we have baseball? (Yes, I follow the MLB. Go Red Sox.)

Figure skating. It's quite an unappreciated sport. I say sport and art all in one wins my heart. The amount of hard work physically, mentally, and emotionally that has to be put into figure skating is overlooked.
I think soccer goes unappreciated in America. Not so much as say figure skating and cricket, but it definately doesn't have too great of a reputation.
