Has any Cartoon Network original series ever broke the 100 episode mark? I can't think of one. I wonder why that is.

Typically CN cuts shows off at 52 episodes if they're doing decently or before that if they flop. Disney usually does this as well but tends to give shows 65 episodes rather than 52. That'd be 5 seasons of 13 episodes. Which is what Teen Titans got.

Though this is no longer policy since Eisner left.

I was speaking of full 30 minute episodes, not the 11 minute break-downs.

I know Dexter got 78 episodes, same with PPG.

Most cable nets never get to 100, only channel I can think of is Nickelodeon with Rugrats (way over 100), Hey Arnold (100 total) and Wild Thornberrys (almost 100).

The thing now seems to be the cutoff mark is around 78 episodes and a total of 6 thirteen episode seasons. That's what happened to Kids Next Door and Billy and Mandy (unless it turned out not to be cancelled after all. I know KND ended though) and Ed Edd n Eddy. And that's only if you're a very popular CN toon. So far no regular CN toon has been able to break the 100 episode barrier (I think the only truley produced CN toon that came close was Justice League/Justice League Unlimited with 91). Maybe one day though when CN actually allows they're cartoons to keep going if they're popular enough and not delay seasons so much.

I'd say Ed,Eddn'Eddy might have a shot simply due to how long it has been in production. 8 years now, and they've got at least another year that it will probably be in production, as well. That's another year for CN to decide if they want to buy a new season, plus if it reaches 9 years, and is still popluar than you know they can hold out for another to do something huge for it being the first CN original to reach its 10th Anniversary and still be in production. (How many shows even have that today period?)

Well, the current record is 78, with PPG and Dexter having it for a while, and KND and Billy and Mandy wil lend at that mark. There is no final count for the Eds at this point, and there is no accurate info for it. There are definatly not 100 eps tho

Well that's not the record -- Neo Ultra Mike reminded us that JL/JLU had a total of 91 episodes (I'd forgotten all about that). So 91 is the record so far. :)

"Justice League" got pretty close with a final count of 91 episodes. (That's the combined number for both the original and "Unlimited" seasons.)

JL/JLU is not a CN original, it was made by WB.

By the way, Grim & Evil, Evil Con Carne and Billy & Mandy were produced as just one big show (the first 3 seasons being Grim & Evil, and the others being Billy & Mandy), if we count them like that there would be 7 seasons of 13 episodes each which make a total of 91, if we add Big Boogey Adventure (which counts as 3 half-hours) we get 94 half-hours, with the hour-season finale we get 96, with the KND crossover we get 98, and with the christmas special (45 minutes) we get 99 and a half half-hours, and there is the possibility of another special and that will make more than 100.

Ya, WB Cartoons don't count

and Neither do tv movies when you split them

I think Grim and Evil/Grim Adventures/Evil Con Carne total doesn't count, since it is 3 seperate shows

Then EEnE shouldn't count, since it was made by aka Cartoon.

I think 78 episodes is impressive for an animated series. When you think back to the classics such as The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, and Bugs Bunny, many of them lasted a relatively short amount of time during their first incarnation. It was the spin-offs and films that spread the life. Most live-action shows get 8-10 seasons tops and those are usually less expensive to produce too. Its not the amount of episodes involved its the quality.

Although to be fair even cartoon seasons were a lot more then they are today. With things being more expensive and needing more commericalized ads not only are shows shorter but they're seasons aren't nearly as long. Even prime time cartoons only get at most 22 episodes or so a year. And after the inital first run of seasons, it's lucky if a CN toon gets 10-15 new eps a year (well the anime obviously do but I'm talking about originals). And in truth the only reasons shows last as long as they do now is because of how seasons are stretched out compared to the day. I mean back then a 26 episode series would easily run through in 6 months at most. Now it could take over a year to show all the episodes thanks to seasons being stretched out and all.
