I've been in a few for a short time, I have a cousin and a friend that drives dumptrucks.

The air ride drivers seat helps cushion the bouncing and jarring, but you still feel it. it's rather loud and hot if there isn't air-conditioning (sometimes there isn't). It can be nerve racking driving in towns and heavy traffic all day and all those gears can give you a fit as they aren't synced (but you'll get better with practice. You have to keep your logs and sometimes find your directions when you get lost. You'll be frustrated by delays and loading dock schedules. A lot depends whether your long haul tractor trailer, local delivery, or class B. The friend almost rear ended a car and decided the job wasn't for him. My cousin is having lower back surgery.

I've been in coal trucks before, when I was a kid. My mom's boyfriend runs a small trucking company in Eastern Kentucky, hauling coal in a couple of 18-wheelers.

The main thing that I've noticed about it is how expensive the trucks are to maintain and how disastrous it is to the business when the trucks are inevitably wrecked or break down. It seems like they have a real need for good, responsible, non-drug addict drivers so maybe it could be a career for you.

If you have that CMT channel, watch "Trick my Truck", then decide if you wanna truck the highways, with what the Chrome shop mafia does to your ride...

A knew a guy who went to truck driving school a couple years ago. The school guaranteed placement, and amazingly when he graduated and got his license they said they didn't have any openings. Man was he ticked.

This was the Northeast though, so maybe Ohio needs more drivers.
