Okay you know someone has take the "Tycoon" Series of Games way too far when you get Fairy Godmothers involved in building a business, (let alone Fairy God parents...Cosmo and Wanda won't stand a chance.)
Now I don't mind playing Some 'tycoon' based games granted, (Such as Railroad Tycoon (3) , Lemonade Stand Tycoon, and even Rollercoaster Tycoon (Any version), but when I saw this being advertised on EBgames.com. I had to really blanche at this one..
I mean seriously can this game be taken seriously when you are dealing with Magic Potions, and god(Mother) knows what?
I mean I can see the logic behind building a Railroad, or a ski Resort, or even an amusement park, but selling magic Potions? That's a little bit on the weird side. In fact the article at Joystiq states the following:
purchasing supplies when they're cheap, pricing your potions correctly, hiring goons to help you with your marketing, casting spells on peasants and upgrading elements around your shop." Check out the interview (http://www.vh1gamebreak.com/2007/03/5_questions.html) on VH1 GameBreak with game producer Todd Kerpelman, and find out more about it.
Hiring goons? Casting Spells on Peasants (like someone was putting a hit out on them)? This doesn't really sound like a Tycoon game.. but rather more of a "Mafia" Style game (come on what righteous fairy godmother hires goons? this has the Makings of Magical Mafioso written all over it complete with Fairy Godfather (I'lls make you a spell youse can't refuse!)
But seriously, would anyone really buy this game? I mean I plunked down 10 or so bucks for Railroad tycoon (3) and I've enjoyed it since day one. I've been wanting to try and build a few empires.. but seriously... a Magical Empire in Fantasyland? I'll leave that up to the folks at Disney, thank you.
All in all if this is where the Tycoon Series of Games are going, it makes me wonder.. what's next? Political Tycoon? Software Tycoon? Computer Tycoon? News Station Tycoon? and don't forget, Formula One Racing Tycoon and Weatherman Tycoon!
Believe me, the Magic is really starting to fade in the 'tycoon' series of games. Sure it was great when Railroad Tycoon (1, 2, or 3) came out, it was thrilling that Rollercoaster Tycoon (and it's add on packages), show you the real world of Amusement parks and fun... but this?
I hate to say it, but let's face it.. The magic is gone if anyone dares to try this one.. I think someone who designed this one thought they would be getting a prince of an idea for slapping the Name of 'something something tycoon' on it.. But in this case? It turned out to be a real frog..
But let's hear your comments about this.. would anyone be sane (or crazy) enough to buy this?
(or as I would say, Bibbity Boobity Boo?)
