View Full Version : Animaniacs Music Television

In honor of a topic from the ancient days of the WBC, and for the sake of nostalgia, I am hereby resurrecting a sacred, historic topic.
Remember the two TTA episodes "Tiny Toon Music Television" and "Music Day"? What if Animaniacs had done such an episode? The characters always worked well with musical segments, so it's an interesting topic to ponder. What songs would you want to see their takes on, or what songs would you have them parody?
Let's hear some serious thought on this! =)

Aww, it has to be *serious*? :( ;)
Maybe they can sing a song about how to tell the difference between N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys.
Then again, that's probably last about three lines:
~What is the difference between BBoys and N'Sync?~
~Nothing, except that one of them might be the missing link...~
~Boy, that must be a *really* low point to sink!~ :p

Animaniacs doing They might Be Giants would have been SO COOL!

In a way I think it would cheapen the show (as I may have said when this came up so long ago...I recall thinking it, anyhow). A! had tremendous success with its own original songs, something TTA never did. A! episode # 82 had a string of fabulous music videos as good as any TTA ever did, set to everything from an "Eerie Canal" spoof to a poignant ballad paying homage to the ever-unfortunate Magellan--really clever stuff. To me, this AMTV proposition seems comparable to building an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus around skits set to already-popular music--"Yakkety Yak" and "It's in His Kiss" might be great songs, but what use would MP have for them when they already had such wonderful tunes as "The Lumberjack Song" or "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"?
Still, for the sake of conversation, a few spring immediately to mind--I think Randy Newman's infamous "Short People" would work nicely with Pinky & Brain (with various humans scorning them as they try to carry a plan through or something). Also with Brain, Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" is a nice sort of wistful song about someone who's been around (lyrics here (http://www.jonimitchell.com/BSNLyrics/BothSidesNow.html), although you really have to hear the recording, naturally). I like the idea of either Yakko or Wakko serenading Hello Nurse to the Nat King Cole classic "Mona Lisa" (a song to a woman who never displays any real affection, comparing her to "a cold and lonely, lovely work of art")--I think Wakko singing in Nat's velvet voice is funnier, when I think about it. And maybe Buttons doing "One Day I'll Fly Away," a wonderful '80's ballad about someone who's been tortured by the love of someone else, but can't quite pull themselves away. If Buttons singing isn't surreal enough, we could go all-out and really have Buttons flying off, free at last, until naturally being brought back down to reality by the end.
Maybe Buttons can finally get his singing career off the ground and be able to leave Mindy--like Dean Martin left Jerry Lewis! That's the ticket...

Hey, if Britney Spears can lip-sync, why can't he?

That's easy. For years now, I've wanted to hear The Brain sing "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" (with modification of the Tears for Fears' lyrics, of course- a lot of 'em don't make any sense.)

Admittedly, have a hard time coming up with actual songs I'd want to hear sung "straight" by the A! crew.... parodied versions, however, might be amusing:
- a parody of that "Would You Still Call Me Superman?" song, maybe involving Wakko and the Man of Steel (making a reluctant cameo)
- hearing Brain sing "Everybody Wants to Rule the World": maybe....
Hmph...other than that, can't think of much else, beyond parodying a song for the sake of a particular episode/story---see: a few A!/PatB episodes, or various fanfic stories I did with the songs coming as part of the plot ["Motown Mice", "Saturday Morning Fever"---though the thought of Brain singing the Hues Corporation's "Rock the Boat" song, dancing to "I'm Just A Love Machine", or generally "grooving to the disco beat" still makes me smile...]

I cant really think of any toons that A! could have done in retrospect. I sorta like the fact that A! had thier own songs which gave it its own flavor whereas Tiny Toons (which was full of pop culture references) mimicked ones already made. Made the two stand out between each other kinda :)

is used music (mostly 80s) in the background, Indeed, like "Miami Vice", I enjoy a good soundtrack. Among the many songs I've used (either original or parody)---
-"Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring (in "Warner Academy")
-"Heaven" by Warrant, "King Of Wishful Thinking" (originally by Go West) and "Change Of Heart" by Cyndi Lauper (in "The Harley Awards")
-"Same Old Love (365 Days Of The Year)" by Anita Baker (in "Warner Academy 2")
-"Sweet Love" by Anita Baker, "Love Train" by the O'Jays, "Tuff Enuff" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds, "This Is Not America" by David Bowie and "Christopher Tracy's Parade" (originally by Prince) (in "A Very Wakko Thanksgiving")
-"Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses and "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" (originally by Annie Lennox and Al Green) (in "Have Yourself A Wakko Little Christmas")
-"Let's Go Crazy" by Prince and "Cat Scratch Fever" by Ted Nugent (in the just-completed "The Wrath Of Stewie")
As a "Miami Vice"-like soundtrack, it could work to use popular songs. As actual videos or performed by the toons...eh, probably not.
Sincerely,

Last night's dead-of-the-night (2 AM EST) NBC rerun of a "classic" ep of "Saturday Night Live" featured some episode from what I guess is the mid-80's (Dennis Miller era)....featured as that week's special guest Anita Baker and also featured Nora "Lydia Karaoke" Dunn in a few sketches, one of them with her doing the same voice she did for H!. Humor-wise, was so-so (though lot of the jokes came off as feeling pretty dated, natch).

That was....brief.

Whew! Good to know I wasn't the only one who wanted to hear that one. :D
I'll have to give this a little more thought, since no other songs are really coming to mind right now.

I don't remember who suggested this one first in the original discussion (Perhaps Siren or myself?), but someone came up with the idea for a video with Pinky, Billie, & Brain set to Brian Setzer's "Jump Jive 'n' Wail". I'm rather taken with that concept, actually...
We start with an intro segment of the mice entering a night club and going back stage. Brain gives a brief recap of whatever his plan might be for tonight, and tells Pinky & Billie to keep out of trouble while he prepares. But of course, they somehow make their way out to the dance floor just as the song kicks in... their ensuing dance floor antics leading to the plan's downfall, either directly or indirectly, depending on how things are played out. And of course, the classic P&tB ender...
