Which do you consider yourself? I mean after all, you come to a cartoon message board you must be a nerd/geek? Is there a difference? Or are they one in the same?

I'm a geek, we're the better ones(sorry Kury, you know it's true).
Actually, I'm supposedly a Super Geek.
Nerds are essentially 'Geek-lite'. They haven't made the full leap in yet. So they have Geek Potential, but they still have a ways to go.

I like to call myself a geek because "nerd" sounds like something you would say if you had a brain condition.
neither I'm a punk...
Okay a punk/nerd
Is it just me or does nerd sound better than geek? I kind of mean in the insulting way.

 truth be told I'm more of a Dweeb. I know alot and can make it sound good, I just can't do anything with it, So I come to internet forums. :p
Nerd - totally inept at social skills and could never possibly talk to a girl.
Dweeb - Can talk to girls but can't get them to like or feel sorry for them.
Geek - A chosen social archetype. Can change but won't, can talk to Geek girls and can have other girls feel interested simply because they are unusual and they feel sorry for them.

I consider myself a nerd. I believe I finally reached that level last summer, after being a geek for many years.
Nerds are essentially 'Geek-lite'. They haven't made the full leap in yet. So they have Geek Potential, but they still have a ways to go.I have to disagree, sweetie. The chain goes something like this:
Dork: Mild interest in one or two geeky things.
Geek: Interest in geeky things, maybe two obsessions or so.
Nerd: Obsessed with tons of geeky things, anime and comics being a staple in their life.
That's how I always saw it. The levels of extremity in terms of geeky behavior just have to be acknowledged. Nerds are more obsessive, they're more everything. It's an honor to get to nerd level.
But don't mind me, I'm trying to accept your system, Kuwa, it's just hard to rewrite what I already had formed. ><

Neither. I dont apply labels to myself. I'm my own person, if someone wants to label me that's fine by them. I'm just a human being doing what I can in a world of other human beings. In my opinion, labeling is incredibly high school and part of why we have threads like the "social outcast" one.

OK then, from Wiktionary (don't worry about false definitions. These come straight from official dictionaries).
Nerd - A person, often studious, with poor social skills.
Geek - 2. A person intensely interested in a particular field or hobby, generally at the expense of broader social interaction. Often used with an attributive noun.
Note: only one definition for 'nerd' is given, while there are multiple ones for 'geek'. The second definition given is the one used here.

I'm sorry you got it wrong for so long babe, but here's how it goes:
Geek: Super obsessed with many, many things. Anime, comics, video games, Magic/other TCGs/collectible games, etc
Nerd: Interested in geeky stuff, but not to the same degree. A nerd can go without anime or comics for long periods of time, and not really miss them that much.
Dork: Someone who is a little into geeky stuff, but not to the same degree.
In fact, the very fact they're called 'geeky things'(even by you), and not 'nerdy things' is proof positive that Geek is the top of the food chain.
Here's how it goes:
Geek>Nerd>Dork>Normal Person>Jock(*hides from phw*)>Prep(*hides from Sam*)

Using the Wiktionary definitions as a guide, I'd say I'm a nerd. The only thing I have an "intense interest" in is writing stories, and as I wouldn't consider that a hobby/fandom/whatever in the strictest sense, I doubt I count as a geek.
On the other hand, the fact that I took this so seriously confirms I'm at least one of the two. But god forbid I should be normal.:p

Well, definitions seem to differ a little, but most people tend to agree that Geeks are the more obsessed and interested ones. In other words, the cooler ones(for people who find memorizing information from the Naruto databooks cool).

Anyway, Isn't Dork about as bad as it gets, pretty much inept and stupid at anything? Normal being level 0, I don't think Jock and Prep are in the same family genus. They fit more along the branch with Motor Heads, Punks, Goths and Princess. No idea how they level out. And you left out Dweeb.

I've always defined Geek as been something hobby-related. If you're into Star Wars, you collect things, you're a movie lover, comic reader. That's geeky.
Nerd seems more intellectual, or quarky. The VV at your school graduation was a nerd. The smart kids in class are nerds. Likewise, someone who has little tweeks about their personallity...nerdy.
Meanwhile, I've concidered Dork to be the more insulting of these classifications. Dork is your behavior. Like the many people who have no social skills, yet aren't shy in the least. People who make loud and outrageous gestures...that's dorky.
I'm 98% geek, with a 2% chance of Nerd. I'm too shy to be Dorky about anything.

Hmmm,
I'm what you call a person who's smart (above average, actually) but lazy, and love cartoons to the point where I know more about them than the people who are majoring in animation. I don't read a lot of manga, except One Piece, Shaman King, and Megaman NT Warrior.
Is it just me, or only fans of anime/manga count as geek/nerds now?

Nerd - A person, often studious, with poor social skills.
My AIM buddy lists consists of two people: me and the only person i care to talk to, who is not a female
My MySpace page is 5 people - friend above, another person I know from school, one comic, one musician, one person who befriends all people who are friends with the musician ... but I dont know them nor talk to them
so ... check on that one
Geek - 2. A person intensely interested in a particular field or hobby, generally at the expense of broader social interaction. Often used with an attributive noun.
there's a link in the sig to my "hobby" and I think that covers that area
Now all that's left to decide is which one i want to belong to

How stereotypical can you be? All people are different. Just because someone dresses and looks better doesn't mean he isn't a total ******bag. And total ******bags belong on the bottom in my book, no matter how "cool" or "nerdy" they may be.
Anyway, I'd probably say I have more geek in me than nerd. To be a nerd, I'd have to be really smart, and I don't fit that category.
I've never been 100% clear on the distinction between the two, but based on Wikipedia's definition, I'm a definite geek. Yup, I freely admit that I'm a geek...AND BY GOD, I'M PROUD OF IT!:D

I'm a mild geek. I have protection from ever becoming a 100000% geek, because I have a job (carpenter) and I play baseball. I talk to girls too!!!! ROTFLOL. Not saying that anyone here can't, it's just a protection from full possesion lol. But people know me well, and they know I like anime and everything, and they don't really care if I do or not. In fact within the past month four of my freinds actually watched some anime with me that are on my baseball team, and they liked it too. I suppose I would call myself bit of a geek if I was either one of the two. Afterall, I'm not smart enough to be a nerd. Nope. Not by a long shot. I'm just more into anime, videogames, and movies instead of anything to do with math or academics (certainly not comrades with my calculator, that's for sure :p).
Oh yeah, I always thought the classification was this:
Nerd - Someone who's into more academic/intellectual/mathematical sort of things.
Geek - One who's into more hobby like things such as movies, D&D, anime, comic books, video games, TV, books, etc.
Dork - Someone who's inept at social skills (like everyone else said).
Although, I tend to kick myself hard in the butt (not literally) whenever I make enough spelling and grammer errors. Is that a bit nerdy?

That's what I thought too. (By the way, you misspelled grammar. Was that intentional?) I've never really thought of nerds as being into anime/comics/video games/sci-fi and stuff, just as being stereotypical smart people. (ie wearing glasses, being socially inept, being somewhat non-athletic)
