View Full Version : Shows That Seem Forgotten- But You Remember!

I haven't started a thread in a while and this was the first idea that came to my mind. I know people probably remember that cool action show of the '80's, Knight Rider, but I haven't seen it anywhere on T.V. for a long time. So in a sense, it's forgotten. (And please tell me I'm not the only one who liked that show! :p ) If you have any more, feel free to mention them.

I remember Knight Rider ,it was a pretty cool show. I also hear they're making a new one(something we don't need, seeing they'd probably just ruin it.)

It was the "Beavis and Butt-Head" of hip-hop. I liked seeing the pompous, overblown hip-hop videos getting made fun of. Too bad MTV's fanbase didn't see the humor in it...it was cancelled within a month and promptly forgotten.

Can't win 'em all, I guess. Anyone else remember this show?

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

Mighty Max, SWAT Kats, Comic Strip, Bucky O'Hare, Dinosaucers, Orbots, and Battle of the Planets.

Greatest American Hero, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Monsters, Tales From the Darkside, New Twilight Zone, Wild, Wild West, and Brisco County Jr.

I remember SWAT Kats, man, that cartoon was so great, lol. I haven't seen that around in about a year I'd say. Anyone ever remember The Magician? It was on Fox like a year or two, never got far though, they pulled the plug on it pretty fast it seemed. Ahh! Real Monsters on CN is another one that I haven't seen in ages.

I can't tell you how many Saturdays I started with Wild, Wild West and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. They're almost related, in a way--westerns with some sci-fi flare.

I taped all of those episodes. Matter of fact, I been trying to look for an avatar of those guys...

How about COP ROCK? Anybody remember that one? It may have been the most insane TV show I've ever seen.

There are a few short lived series that not many people remember but I do: No Soap Radio, The Half Hour Comedy Hour, and Slegehammer.

My brother's got some of the action figures.

Hmm...it's hard for me to think of ones that I didn't mention in the 80s cartoon thread. Well, I always liked The Electric Company as a little kid, which ran on PBS. That's where I first got introduced to Spider-Man, and it probably was the thing that got me interested in super heroes in the first place. I've seen it a couple of times on Noggin. I was surprised that Bill Cosby used to be on it!

Don't forget the mute girl!

I remember a skit she did with the host where she was trying to jump rope, and she ended up tying up the host in it. But she didn't realize that he didn't want that, so she just walked along her way.

Being...six, I think, I found it hilarious.

God, I miss old Nick...they were SO MUCH BETTER back in the 80's and early 90's.

I was very young when I saw Pinwheel... four years of age at the most. And I must of recorded it... or perhaps my mom did, because I remember viewing that tape in the early ninties. It then was either destroyed or lost. I looked for it everywhere a couple months ago.

Old Nick was indeed amazing. Very, very amazing. Remember "You Can't Do That On Television"? Or "Bananaman"? I have a few small fond memories of Bananaman.

edit: and lots of Marc Summers.

I was so into Bananaman, that I got the weekly British humor comic the Dandy just to read about him. I loved all the comics in it, but Banaman was always my favorite.

The strips were two pages, and even today, the jokes are still pretty funny.

Gotta love Dangermouse too. Belle and Sebastian...excuse me, I have something in my eye....(sniff)

...Belle and Sebastian... reminds me of a dog. I must of watched that too... perhaps on that videotape. Was it one of those animes? One of the super fantastic foriegn shows?

Dangermouse was featured along with Bananaman, right?

...God, this is so great. I love the old nickelodeon. I wish I had still had some form of viewing from back then.

I remeber that show, I even have 2 episodes on tape, I loved it. The last episode was just weird.. they ahd the camera guy go wandering offa nd Tino and the fat guy followed him. It made you think that they knew it was to be the last Episode.

They not only made fun of hip hop videos but like 2 or 3 rock videos just beacuse they could. They had a thing where they rated videos with D'z cheese Balls.. that show was great, and MTV Canceled it because well not enought teeny boppers liked it.

It aired first during Hip Hop Week, and soon after they killed it, It would of been great to have around right about now, MTV doesn't cater to us black people that well, i eman all thes hows theyatargeta t us usally either get canceled or retooled for NO REASON which leads to it's death.

Then again mabey it's not just a black thing, i mean they make stupid decisons all the time like NOT airing reruns of Beavis and butt-Head and actually givings hows like Spy Groove Air Time.

I seem to remeber a show called Dracula: the Series, did anyone else remeber this show I think there were repeats on the Sci-fi channel a few years back.
Infact I looked it up on the IMDB, and found that Mia Kirshner (Wolf Lake, 24) was the girl on the show.

Sadly, aside from Invasion America, I'm familiar with literally every series listed here. :cries: Here's one I think is pretty obscure -- "Hard Time On Planet Earth". I also distinctly remember watching the pilot for the shortlived "Scorch", which was pretty short lived as well.

You want obscure? Anyone besides me remember "The Best of the Worst?" It was some cheap show Fox did eons ago, that was a collection of things and traits that were so horribly bad they were hilarious. Kinda like on the Daily Show where they interview people with strange habits, yet they don't realize how strange they are.

*Bailey Kipper's P.O.V.
*Beakman's World (his dissertation on flatulence changed...my...life...
*The New Odd Couple (from the brief neoblaxploitation craze of the eighties; starred Demond Wilson of Sanford and Son as "Oscar"...oddly he hasn't been seen since....)
*The Jeff Foxworthy Show (what the hell hapened here? In season two they revamped and recast it, addded a son, though his wife--who was also recast with a much less pretty actress, for my money--had a daughter in the previous season's finale, and sent it whirling down the porcelain)
*Flying Blind. Before The Naked Truth, Tea Leoni played the chatty, vapid Alicia, whose trademark was to launch into long, ranting, miile-a-minute, bizarre monologues about anything that struck her fancy, often to the chagrin of her stuffed-shirt boyfriend Neil. Dharma and Greg seemed to borrowed from this rooted guy/ditzy girl odd-couple mismatch from Fox (1992).
*Project G.ee.K.e.R
*Bob. Ever notice that Bob Newhart's shows progressively used less and less of his name over time? And on that note--
*George and Leo. "I used to live in Las Vegas. [dramatic pause] Nevada." Favorite ep--cast members from Newhart and Taxi appear all throughout one ep, including at the end, Larry, Daryl, and Daryl.
*Dear John. After Taxi, this was Judd Hirsch's biggest success. Jere Burns, who played a weaselly Lothario from the divorce group, was also in Bob a few years later, so he'd worked with both the stars of G&L seperately.
Burns was later seen in two other forgotten favorites, The Mommies (those two actresses did a spot for Glad not too long back) and Something So Right, both where his character had mellowed into less lustful, more domestic.

Man, I can't believe they cancelled that show. I mean Bill Nye is fine, but he never tackled such a noxious subject as flatulence.

Not only was it informative the rapid scene changes and weird character made it so much fun to watch.

Did you notice that his assistant for the first couple seasons played the lesbian in love with Marsha on "The Brady Bunch" movie?

*Nods head vigorously* I most definately remember this (though I think Dharma & Greg is much better).

And around the same time period Fox had Herman's Head with William Ragsdale as a guy with a bunch of people giving ongoing commentary on his life from inside his head. One of the people was the lady who does Lisa Simpson's voice.

The early days of Fox were something to behold indeed.

Dear John was one of my all time favorite sitcoms while growing up. That's one sit com I wish was in syndication or at least on TV Land or Nick at Nite. I actually would be very willing to buy this series on DVD if they put it out in season sets.

Other forgotten series that deserve another run on TV:
The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. I know that it got type cast as a show for women, but it's style of humor reminded me more of the best Brit Coms I love so much.
Head of the Class. The only time I've seen this in a rerun lately is the Christmas episode on TV Land. This show was pretty great and deserves to be seen again.
LATELINE, the best cancelled show hands down. That was one damn fine sitcom and it's a shame it died so quickly.

Which brings us to Werewolf. This guy got infected with lycanthropy and went around looking for a cure and helping people out. Kind of a lupine David Banner, if you will. Only problem was Chuck Conners was on his trail shooting silver bullets.

Remember the costume? They couldn't spring for animatronics so the wolf always had the same expression-wide open mouth.

Uh yeak I've been skimming through these posts, and every third show or so I think of something I want to say about it. as for now I can say that when Wolf Lake came on I kept trying to tell people about Werewolf and they're like "What? Are you crazy?"
Also, The other day I saw a man wearing a Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling T-Shirt, with animated versions of all the charasters from that show (Junk Yard Dog: "AA-WOOOOO!")
And I used to think Kid 'N' Play was great, until I rcently found an episode I had on tape, and boy it was terrible.
And yes indeed Pinweel did in fact used to run for about six hours every day, during a time when Nick didn't have any other programs for very young children.

Here are my picks

from childhood:
The Letter People
Mysterious Cities of Gold (happily I found a website that has all the eps downloadable for free) :)

from adolesence
The Idiot Box (great MTV sketch comedy show starring Alex Winter)
Dragon Warrior (what happened to this awesome anime)
Maniac Mansion

speaking of early FOX, why shouldn't we be seeing re-runs of Beans Baxter and Parker Lewis by now?

Hey, does anyone remember a cartoon that aired on Saturday mornings, called Skeleton Warriors? Every now and then, I still find the toys for them. Anyway I remember liking it a lot, but since it aired on CBS, it was doomed to be cancelled. Their was also another cartoon on at the same time that was something like X-Men but had something to do with cats. I can't remember the name either.
