View Full Version : Let's turn the tables around!

Beyond Batman

Let's say Batman was a villain, and everyone affiliated with him were corrupt and villaineous (e.g. Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, etc.) With that in mind, who in Gotham out of the rouges gallery, would prosper to make the best hero?

Why the Joker of course...

If batman is bad, Joker would be good...and popular with the people...

I'd have to say the Joker as well. If the tables were turned then it would make sense that Batman's #1 nemesis, would now be the #1 hero in Gotham!!. You know that could actually make for an interesting story. Joker all the way!!!

Yeah, I could see the joker handing out candy to kids, giving the police baloons, etc...and his female superheroine Harleyquinn, who not only fights crime on the streets, but fights it at arkahm as well...as the chief psychologist! =O

Even though it makes sense that the antithesis of batman would become the hero if batman was the villain, I can more easily see the riddler being the main hero. He's just gimmicky as batman is with his puzzle traps and the like, and he's extremely clever, like batman.
Even if Joker ended up being the main hero, Riddler would definately have to be the "oracle" of the bunch.

I'd be interested to see Two-Face in this scenario. A good guy with violent overtones, kind of like The Phantasm. Harvey Dent would probably have more control than Big Bad Harv in this situation.

I just thought of something. What a different light we'd see the Joker in for BB:ROTJ. For all those who haven't seen the movie, I'm putting this in spoilers.

If the events of ROTJ occurred (with some minor changes) and Robin swapped sides, he'd then be a hero, the Joker's J. The Joker would be considered a great reformer and even more of hero. Then, he'd be a martyr for justice when Tim turned on him.

Yeah, i'd have to go w/ Joker too. In The Killing Joke, before he became the Harlequinn of Hate, Joker was just a guy who had a really bad day. He's kinda like Batman, only he when all the way nuts. So, if you switch them around, then Joker would be the same type of hero as Batman.

For some reason, i also think it would be cool (that's not a lame B&R pun, i swear! :p ) to see Mr. Freeze as a good guy. In TAS, he wasn't completely evil; he just wanted to save his wife. So if you reverse that little bit of evil, then you might have a good guy.

I actually don't think Joker would make a good hero. Maybe there could be a Bane/Riddler team, you know, because you'd have one of the only villains that could outsmart Batman, and Bane one of the only ones that can beat him physically.

I agree with Guitar Slayer that Two Face would be the best and most likely "hero" in such a situation. He is the closest to Batman psychologically -- a public figure of prominent social standing mixed up with a shady underworld figure. The imbalance between his two personalities would make for great drama, just like Batman is always on the edge. And he is the victim of malicious fate.

Mmm. That would make an interesting (and very radical) Elseworlds story. . . .

Would this be a good or bad time to point out that prior to becomming two-face, Harvey Dent was once suspected of being Batman?

Bane! If he was a good guy, he'd rule

DR. BELCH

--actually an Elseworlds comic with his premise. Bruce and Selina were a husband-and-wife pair of murderers and thieves...and Jack "Joker" Napier was the decidedly unorthodox police commissioner dedicated to bringing them to justice.

Also, wasn't there a comic with Bane as a good guy? He gave money and toys to orphans, claiming the heart is a muscle, after all, and the drugs he took enhanced his sense of compassion....

Nightwing corrupt?! *sobs*.....neways! I'd have to agree and say The Joker, only for the fact that since he's the most evil villain, he'd make a great hero. Rather, he'd make a really good person. Riddler would make more sense as a hero, or even Two-Face....hey, maybe even Catwoman!

Where would Catwoman fit into all of this? She can't be called a hero nor a villain (well thats what I think). So would she stay the same (a jewel theif who works on the right side of the law on occasion) or would she be considered a hero, at times stepping over to "the dark side"? hmmph

As for who would be the hero, I would say Joker. But Two-Face comes in close second.

Awwww, Barb, you stole my thunder. I was going to say, Catwoman would be really cool. It would flip her relationship with batman, and make him the one she's attracted too, but can't afford to trust.
She could be the main heroine, with Dent back at the DA's office and Pamela Isley as his girlfriend who he doesn't realize is secretly a heroine on the side.

Actually it might make more sense to get rid of two face altogether and just make him Harvey Dent and the Judge.

Any time is a good time. ;) I'll take it as supporting my point.

I could see Two-Face as being a sort of Punisher in Gotham, so I don't know if I would consider him the best hero. Don't get me wrong, I love the Punisher, he's just a little bit... er... unorthodox. I would have to vote for the Joker

Hrm, this is turning into one of those stories wher you have on main villian (and his side kicks) who always get tharted by the numerous good guys, but is never captured...
