View Full Version : What happened to the TZ AIM chats?

ThePeterNetwork

Once upon a time, there used to be a whole bunch of TZ users who decided to use AIM to hold group chats. They'd talk about anime, video games, Adult Swim, etc. Then all of a sudden, they just stopped and nobody ever got invited to them anymore. I don't understand what happened. I have seven names from TZ in my buddy list, but they just sit there. Not to sound nosy, but is everybody busy with schoolwork or something?

I used to go to TZ Chat, but they used to invite me every 2 seconds. Its very annoying, and even if you refused they still keep on inviting you. So I asked them too stop inviting me.

I was in one not too long ago. Though I left after a while because it turned into a bunch of in-jokes that I wanted no part of.

Two things:

1.) The chats have changed a lot since they were booming several months ago, fyi everyone.

2.) There's usually always one, every night. If you want an invite, just ask someone.

Ishtar

Yeah the TZ chats are still around. I've been getting invited to them every day. Like Kury said, if you want an invite just ask one of us.

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THE #$%^-ING CHATS??? Unless you watch Naruto and Prince of Tennis RELIGIOUSLY, they get boring real fast. Hell, half the time I leave within the first five minutes since I neither have any idea what anyone is talking about or care to know.

Prince of Tennis? Aside from me, it usually only gets talked about when it comes on (30 minutes once a week).

Seriously, we don't talk about Naruto that often either, aside from when phw and I get into a debate.

We probably talk about non-anime stuff much more often than Naruto.

How so?

And for the record, I've been invited on four separate occasions. That count would be higher if I ever actually signed into AIM.

Yeah, but unless you go to chats RELIGIOUSLY you wouldn't get the non-anime stuff either, considering 90% of the time it's a bunch of in-jokes and you and Kury being in love.

What happened to the TZ chats was of a pungent urine smell in which riff-raff, grumblers, and troublemakers were invited from the dingy AIM corridor into the downtrodden apartment that was the chatroom. It wasn't enough that the floor was about to fall apart due to the meandering nature of how to keep it afloat, but that foul reek of urine and unbathed sweat brought it down like a ton of bricks.

Which is why I've decided to take my chances in the corridor.

For all of you who whine over these chats, I have a question: What's the big deal? If you don't want to participate, then don't. If you do, power to you, we can always use new folks in the chats. But seriously, it's pretty absurd to get worked up over the fact that a group of people like to talk to each other. Great science, what were we thinking for being friendly? *rolls eyes*

Exactly. We don't bite, folks. And we are always looking for new people (and plenty of them seem to pick up on the jokes fast enough). I mean, it isn't like we're some exclusive club or anything. The chats have also improved a lot since 90% of us have put most of the troublemakers on block.

In general, I'd have to agree with the notion that the chats aren't that peachy, especially in the last few weeks. Half the time I get invited now and just minimise the window. 'In-joke' is definetly a good description. They're not beyond saving but it is basically the same nonsense night after night.

Ok, im a little late to this thread, but honestly I don't see anything wrong with TZ chats. Sure, I can't really talk because I've only been apart of them for a short period of time now, but it's a wonderful way for people to get together and enjoy nice conversations.
They don't always have to be about anime this or anime that, there is nothing wrong with a joke or two. Even conversations that have no point what so ever are good for even a laugh.

Our point exactly. TZ chats aren't just for discussing shows and TZ. It's also to make friends, and I've made plenty of good friends. What kind of friends don't joke around every once in a while?

You stole the words right outta my mouth!!!!

And i know that some people who "religiously" go on there and get mad at one person, which creates alot of drama on the chats as well. Which is why the chats lately have brought out the worst in people, which this is the internet, lighten up folks!

To me, since the chats arnt "official" parts of TZ, the two are seperate. I also think its a low blow if a mod were on there and was like "oh well i dont like how you talk on the chats, im going to ban you from TZ'', thats completely uncalled for. Im just stating that...

TheDarkness

The only reason I crap on the 'new' TZ chats are because they're boring and it's the same thing every night. I remember the days when they were just on every Saturday or just once or twice a week. Those chats were hilarious. Those were alot more fun to be in. There wasn't much of any real chatting going on, like maybe some one comes and and wants to spend a while talking about naruto, but meh. That's what the forums are for. If you wanna have fun and get a good laugh, you'd like the old TZ chats. Now since they're everyday, it gets boring and weird talking to the same people about the same things everyday. I say having a undiscriminated and weekly TZ chat works perfect. It seems the people in them don't invite alot of people simply because they aren't as up tight as the people in the chat or are just too close minded to accept another other kind of people besides them and a special 2 or 3. 2 main problems..

1: Boring, not enough people.

2: they are done too often.

3: Not alot of people know about them/the people in the chats.

Having a ToonZone chat once every Saturday night. Makes sense because that's when all the good shows come on and having it too often makes it boring. You don't have anything to talk about because you talked about it for a long time the day before. Giving the TZers a good week to cook up and then release they're chattiness on Saturday keeps the Saturday form being boring. Everyone will have something to talk about and it won't be full of some boring topic like ''So today i was brushing my teeth and...''

And just to clear things up. I don't like spamming the chats. It's just something I do when I'm getting too much negativity from folk.

Well the problem is, when you enter the chats you personally offend people. You go in and say offensive things and it creates unneeded tension between people. You should try going in the chats with an open mind, and if you don't like the 'new chats' as you label them, you should try making your own with the people you like talking to. Instead of insulting the people you don't like, try and just talk to the people you do like, or make your own spam-happy Saturday chats. You get in-jokes all the time in life and in the chat rooms. I don't understand what their talking about when they talk about Naruto because I don't watch that show, but I still enjoy the chats. Darkness, the only time i say that is when you are acting mean to me or others. As much as you'd like to think otherwise, I don't normally do it unprovoked. If you don't enjoy the chats, I'll say it again, make your own chat and invite the people you like in it. That's the freedom of AIM. Also, don't trigger the sware filter. It's there to prevent swaring, but you shouldn't be doing it anyway.

When I was invited to TZ AIM chats, I would go just to keep myself from being bored on the Internet. I mean, how many times can you visit the same forums, the same websites, etc. in the limited time that you have each night? That would get boring after a while.

Reading what other people say as it happens is fascinating because you get to see what's on people's minds, and occasionally get your own thoughts out there too. Sometimes you'll get a reaction, sometimes you won't. That's just how these things work.

Why, I remember the first real chat I've had when I got the full Internet for Windows (I am not counting the crappy DOS connection that I had). I was young, I had the potential for good, but then something happened that ruined my life. Do you have any idea what it's like to enjoy a thing from outside the fandom? I don't want that to happen from TZ. I contribute positively, for cryin' out loud!

I'm not a spammer, my soul purpose to go to TZ chats isn't to spam and whatnot, it's to just hang around and have fun. And to make people laugh. Also to talk about the dubbed Japaneses crap CN puts on the air...Sure have fooled us, then. We've all seen the terrible things you say about each of us and we've gotten sick of it. It's no different than being sick of someone being rude IRL. We've reached our limits and you've given no reason to earn another chance.

Most of us are pro-dub, btw.

And just to put my two cents in, the chats aren't just in-jokes, but those we have are pretty easy to catch on to. And it's not all "zomgwtfbbq Naruto" all the time. We'll talk about anything and everything, just like any group of friends would. And really, if anyone wants to be a part, just ask. We're always willing to invite new people.

So can we move on from this, now? It doesn't really belong on the board since these chats are separate from TZ.

Then why do we call them TZ chats?

Because the majority of the people in there are from TZ.

Oh, and about the in-joke thing....

Between Timbox, Who's Hitler, and the such, TZ has just as many in-jokes, if not MORE than the chats have on a daily basis.

They're in there after all, RUN!
You never say, "I'm gonna fight you, Steve." You just smile and act natural, and then you sucker-punch him.

Lately I was thinking that Toonzone chat was this "special place" users could go to just "blah" and stuff... But now that it involves just logging on AIM etc. it sounds fun to give it a kick. (A try!)

But...where exactly is the toonzone chat?

Because that was what they were called in the thread title? And the majority of members are from TZ, but that doesn't mean they are a part of the board. It's just members talking.
I've seen the terrible things you've said about me. I've reached my limits too.The difference is our comments are not unprovoked.

Just IM any of us chatters when we're online and we'll hook you up with an invite.

Meh, what the heck.

I'm bored at the moment, so I'd like to give it another shot if you all don't mind.

Yeah, I suppose it'd be worth a try. I'm not exactly having fun doing homework ATM, so a chat wouldn't be a bad idea.

That is, if you guys will let me join ya'.

Folks, take the personal bickering and drama off the board and into PMs or chat. This is not the place to be airing your dirty laundry or hashing out personal beefs.

Man you guys must really not like chats in general. I've been using IRC for a solid 8 years, and the chat environment has never really bothered me.

Anyway, after reading all this drama, I suddenly had the desire to see it first-hand. If someone does feel like inviting me in (hint hint) some time my AIM name is DamnTim.

IRC demands some structure and also a clear leader of the chat. AIM chats are just crap because they're chaotic (you cant ban anyone) and dont really guarantee a stable community.

PS the old Adultswim board chat room is still up and running on IRC. :[
