When the Griffin family decides to start a restaurant, they have a hard time attracting customers. But after Joe promises to help, Peter is excited that it might become a cop hangout. However, things don’t really turn out as Peter had hoped and it begins to be popular with handicapped patrons.

The Hitler scarecrow was hilarious... I've lost interest in the rest of the episode now, though. ><

The O.J. Simpson verdict thing was well-executed, as was Quagmire's line about confusing what Lois meant when she said to tear up her carpet. There have been a lot more misses than hits so far, however. Memo to FG staff: Lay off Herbert for a while. And Peter behaving like an ass to his family for the hundredth time doesn't automatically equal comic gold.

So far, this is pretty funny. Though the Next Top Model gag ended in a weird way, but it's for the better instead of a cheap joke.

Nice jab at Discover Card. I used to have one of those, and hated it.

The scare-Jew was priceless...but Mort's quip afterwards made it golden..."Protect Jon Stewart, he's our most important Jew!"

I can poop AND be warm?!

Meg's butt-floss was just a bit much...

Quagmire's 'carpet' misunderstanding..."Alright, we're going Brazilian!"

Liza Minelli...eeeeww....

LOL at Discover card gag.

Maude gag went on a tad too long.

Peter with 30 puppies was hilarious, I know people that would do that.

Peanuts reference FTW...LOL at Pigpen and bladder infections.

M. Night parody was WIN. And then he was involved in 9/11?

Ben Stiller's ear-wings..."His movies are terrible."

Now that was much better. Here's an example of a Family Guy episode that has a really edgy plot that naturally results in edgy jokes but winds up reconciling itself, rather than an episode that has a bare-bones plot that they pile shock jokes on top of. It wasn't perfect, but it was an example of what the show should be like for the most part.

Other than that, pretty funny. Criple-Tron was great, as well as Peter's wheelchair montage.

Excellent first act. One of the funniest in a long time.

Bad, bad, BAD second act. Horrible. The Maude gag was one of the worst things in the show's history.

Great third act. Loved the montage of Peter with a broken leg, enduring what it's like to be handicapped.

Bad, bad, BAD second act. Horrible. The Maude gag was one of the worst things in the show's history. I almost get the feeling that Maude joke was the kind where the writers had written it a while ago and could never find a place to slip it into an episode, because it didn't really fit anywhere logical. Well, it didn't fit here, either. The joke had no relevance to what immediately followed, which was Peter and Lois talking about the restaurant. And you might say, "But that's what Family Guy is all about! Why are you watching the show?" Well, cutaways are one thing, but this went on for a good minute. It just felt like it was there to fill up time.

Personally, the episode was okay until the "Peter's anti-handicap tirade", which, save for Cripple-Tron, kinda brought the episode down.

As for other joke highlights, I loved the Hitler scarecrow and Herbert at the Thrift Store.

The cripple tron was probably the dumbest things I have ever seen but the animation was kinda cool. And I loved the Scare Jew especially Mort's response to it about John Stewart. Not the best episode espeically since it went downhill after the first half but still pretty decent. B.

The Maude joke could've been refined a bit more (again, they're getting sloppy), but I thought it was respectable. It wasn't just "funny because it's long" in that annoying meta way; the joke actually dealt with the idea of something being too long. I thought Peter's comments there were pretty funny. I feel confident in saying "at least they tried" on this one.

Cripple-Tron has to be the most absurd thing I've seen on TV.

I did not like Peter's character in this episode. It was too mean-spirited for my liking.

Peter Paltridge
03-26-2007, 02:16 AM
I could see a Cripple-Tron appearing in Season 3 if they'd had better computer animation back then. I think the main problem was that it went on a little too long. Just a couple shots of the thing in action would have been enough.

I wish the whole episode had just been Peter repeatedly going back to the thrift store and getting stupid things. The first act was great.

Yes! That would've made for a great episode! The FG writers need to realize that they don't need to make a gigantic plot. Peter just getting stupid things and doing stupid things with them for a whole episode would be funny.

I can't believe not a single soul here mentioned the Big Boy reference- a reference to THE greatest burger joint ever!

I loved the rug gag with Quagmire...though the thing with Liza Minelli was just creepy( my dear, no need to waste your time getting Judy Garland's approval- I mean the woman did a lousy job as Dorothy in a legendary movie).

Overall, decent episode.

though the thing with Liza Minelli was just creepy

Yeah, that was definitely disturbing on a few levels. Then again, if there isn't something to make you go "Huh?" or "Ewww!" at least once per episode, the writers just aren't working hard enough.

The part with Peter holding a live-action picture of Mark Harmon was more weird than anything,IMO.

Lois shouldn't be able to lecture other characters on their stupidity anymore. That's really just where I stand, and I'm not really going to bring that back up.

Best Part: Cripple-Tron scene / Peter Handicapped Montage
Worst Part: Maude (what the heck was that about?)
Average Joke: The Next Top joke. We've been down that road before, folks.

The funny parts:
* The Mexican Superfriends with a hint of Cheech and Chong thrown in.
* Stewie at the Lucy Doctor's Booth while Violet complains about a bladder problem.
* Peter's Restaurant sign making fun of the Big Boy restaurants.
* The longer version of the Maude theme song (They left out the "Isadora was the first raw burner, and the fact she showed up, and when the country was falling apart, Betsy Ross got it all sewed up" line!)

I kind of figured Peter would end up in a wheelchair by the way he mistreated those handicapped people. So he could see what it was like.

Kind of like how Stan Smith was ashamed that his son was a geek and then Stan ended up becoming a geek too which made him see what it was like.

Is it weird my favorite part of this episode was the Elton John song bit?

I didn't like either the Superfriends or the Maude bit (except for the very end of it), so there were a few things that didn't work for me. The beginning was funny, though, and Cripple Tron was kind of cool. I liked Stewie attacking him. Sort of a so-so episode for me.

KuwabaraTheMan

Eh, not the worst, but ultimately fell in several places. Peter is always a little bit of a jerk, but he was just too much of a jerk to both his family and Joe in this episode.

The theme song segment also dragged way too long for a joke that was obvious from the start.

Overall, the ending was alright, and it wasn't horrid, but it just died at several points, unfortunately.

While I know Family Guy is like this but this episode seemed like it did not know where it was going longer then most. It took to long to get to the main plot, when even then did not seem to focused. Just over all a poor episode. Some of the jokes were funny.

That makes two of us. Lol. Makes me wonder how the opening is really supposed to be like.

Well, cutaways are one thing, but this went on for a good minute. It just felt like it was there to fill up time.

Yeah, it seems like they've done that in a lot of recent eps. Even Peter was complaining about how long that lasted. They really needed something like that with the long caveman cutaway from "Jungle Love" or the Bin Laden opening from "PTV." They could have had someone say, "Come on! Let's see the Griffin's." Maybe the writers are running out of ideas, so they have to rely on long cutaways or TV show spoofs to fill up time.

But I liked the episode otherwise. It seems like Peter got his just desserts for the way he treats people. I mean, Meg spilling water on him, Stewie and Brian pushing his chair down the stairs. Lol. I guess he had it coming. I also liked the Peanuts reference, and the ANTM reference since I'm a fan of that show. It was also good that they didn't overplay the Stewie/Brain thing too much.

I have to agree. It seems like now they squeeze Herbert in about every episode for no real reason. The first time, he showed up it was funny, but his character doesn't seem to work for a running gag, at least not as well as Quagmire with the sex jokes. I think the reason Herbert gets so much airtime, is because of his voice actor Mike Henry, now that he's listed as the main cast. I guess they want to do more with his characters. Which I don't think is necessary, because he already has Cleveland. I mean his character actually fits in with what's going on.

The long Maude opening would've benefited if a) it was shortened a bit and b) Peter didn't say anything and just swayed his head to and fro listening to the beat and when "then there's Maude" came up, he decided to just giggle or laugh jovially saying "Yep, a uncompromising, enterprising, anything but tranquilizing right old Maude. But boy that was an ordeal" before turning off the TV. Him just yelling his head out about "and then there's Maude" seemed annoying and just enforced the annoyance of the joke without adding anything onto it except just a reflection of our frustration.

For some reason I've always mixed up Maude with Rhoda for some reason.

Yeah, this episode was weak.

It had its moments, like the shockings and the Transformers made of cripples, but most of the jokes were unfunny like the O.J. reactions [Why are they trying to make Brian a racist?], the dull extension of the Maude theme, and...wow, I forgot about most of this episode already. That's how forgettable it is.

Grade: C- [Ties Chick Cancer as the worst episode of the season so far]

Why are they trying to make Brian a racist?
That wasn't "Brian is racist" joke, it was just a comparisson of how most white people & most black people reacted to the verdict. Brian being the white guy thought OJ was guilty while the black roommate thought OJ was innocent.

It's been a couple episodes since FG was good to me, so I enjoyed this one.

Favorite parts: Peter's "I think I may be Jesus!" static electricity discovery; "Do we accept Discover?"; Stewie helping Violet and Pigpen; the Cripple-tron; Peter's wheelchair montage.

Didn't like: The 'extended' "Maude" theme song. I didn't hate it, but how many times is Peter going to say "And then there's Maude" before the song actually gets to that part?

"No Meals on Wheels": 4/5.
