Word around the campfire is a Captain Marvel movie is in the works. So.... what should they call the hero?

Captain Marvel or SHAZAM?

Thing is... wouldn't DC be advertising the Marvel brand name by putting out this character making him successful? Even your average geek probably doesn't know that Captain Marvel is a DC character and would end up assuming that it is a Marvel character.

If they're going to be putting out the movie.... what do they call him?

His name is Captain Marvel. Period.

DC lost the rights to call his title that, hence it being called SHAZAM, but the hero himself is Captain Marvel, which they can say so anywhere inside the pages of a story. As long as it's not the title.

What he said.

A pox on Marvel for stealing the name!

I thought I just heard somewhere that Captain Marvel is being called SHAZAM now in his comic. The Billy passed on the mantle and the new hero is calling himself Shazam.

Right now in the comics, there is no Captain Marvel or SHAZAM. Billy Batson is now the Wizard SHAZAM after the old one died, and the ex-Captain Marvel Jr. is in the process of training to be Captain Marvel/SHAZAM. It's yet to be stated what name he'll go by once he is at that point.

It's safe to say it will be Captain Marvel, though, considering they still have Mary Marvel out there, and a major point of DC's upcoming storyline.

Infinitely better than the dreck that is the competing series.

They'll probably have to call the movie SHAZAM, but there's no reason not to call the character Captain Marvel within the movie.

I'm reading both, actually. :)

Trials of Shazam isn't that bad. Was it needed to change around the character? No. But if they're doing it, at least they're not doing a horrible job at it. I'd rather them bump up both Marvel and Jr. then just throw in some random new character (see: Atom, Blue Beetle).
