Does anybody work in video game retail here? I am looking for a Wii and want to know when the next big shipment is.

thank you.

You're better off speaking to the folks at the individual retailers in your area; they're more likely to know when a shipment is coming to their particular store. To my knowledge there aren't really any big nationwide rollouts where most/all locations get more units at once.

I finally managed to get one last weekend, because the electronics clerk at my local Target clued me in that they were getting a shipment Sunday morning and I showed up at opening. They got eleven units and eight people showed up at opening; I later heard that the last three sold out in the first half hour of the store being open.

My inquiries have revealed that at least in my area, Target and Circuit City tend to get theirs in early Sunday morning, whereas Wal-Mart gets theirs on Fridays around 10 or 11 am. That could very well be different where you are, though.

Just stay persistent and get on good terms with the staff at your local retailers so that you'll know when the best time is to check and you're sure to turn one up sooner or later. Good luck!

Do that. Don't try and be annoying and attempt to be their superficial friend like you're trying to close a deal with them or sell them something, of course, but be persistant.

I got my Wii a few weeks ago because I kept calling and asking. Eventually I found out that BestBuy gets their shipments on the last weekend of the month, Saturday night for Sunday, so I was there like an hour before opening on Sunday.

The worst is what you see while you're doing all this. Like people seeing me purposely standing outside the BestBuy and NOT going in, but that doesn't stop them from almost walking right into the automatic door being so surprised it didn't open for them.

Yeah I'm standing outside because I'm a statue that attracts pigeons (and seagulls if the store location applies).

No they don't open at 10 on Sundays just because you read all the days OTHER than Sunday which say they open at 10. You dumb people.

'Course you'll see one or two threads of good in a yarn ball of bad. The last guy in line gave his voucher ticket to a woman uninformed to the gamer world, since she showed up 20 minutes before the store opened and all the vouchers had already been given out.

It's that woman who I think about when all this low Wii stock stuff bothers me.

I work for GameStop and we got a very small shipment last Wednesday and sold out within a couple hours. All the stores in our district received the same amount. We have no idea when we'll get another one, but it took three weeks to get this last one.

We heard reports during the weekend that a Sam's Club in the area had 200 of them, but that just sounded too much like exaggeration. Costco and Best Buy in the same area also got a couple dozen and sold out in a day or two.

Have patience. I have faith in Nintendo that they'll get their distribution problems sorted out by summer.

One thing I'm really having trouble finding is Wiimotes. Does anyone else have this problem? Every single time I go to the store, they're completely sold out. It's just, I bought my best friend a Wii for Christmas, so she has the one Wiimote that came with it, but I'd like to find her some more.

I've found plenty of those in the stores. I have yet to find a store that has any Wiis to buy though.

Last Friday, I went to Best Buy, Target, and two EB Games stores. They had PS3's. Would have been nice if they were Wiis though. Oh well. At least we know who's trouncing who.

Actually, Target just tells their employees to say that the Shipment "comes in" on Sunday morning. That's just a big front, and Chad can back me up on this claim. Target usually gets them in during the middle of the week, and drops them on Sunday to help with sales for the week.

Actually, I think her exact words were that they were "releasing" some on Sunday, so I guess technically she wasn't lying. (-: I'm grateful either way; waiting a couple extra days isn't a big deal as long as I was able to get one. And actually, it probably benefited me, since I would've had trouble getting out of work to go wait for one on any day other than Sunday.

Wiimotes have become pretty easy to find in my area over the last month or so, Best Buy has a bunch and you can usually find at least one or two at Target, Wally World, etc... hopefully they'll soon become easier to find in other areas as well.

Nintendo's got some supply issues with retailers for sure.

We've been getting frequent shipments over the past couple of weeks of Wiimotes, nunchuks, classic controllers, and consoles. However, it still takes less than an hour for the consoles to sell out and less than a day for the accessories to go. Unfortunately, we are unable to tell the customers when we receive our shipments. It's supposed to make things fair for every customer who comes in and asks. No one gets more information than anyone else. You just have to be one of the lucky ones. As much as I'd love to tell everyone when we would get another shipment, I would also like to keep my job as safe and secure as possible.

I also have a belief in "jerks" not getting what they want. By "jerks" I mean the customers who overreact when we inform them that we are sold out and do not know when we are getting the consoles in stock.

We honestly don't know until a day or two before they arrive because even if an order is sent out, it must first be confirmed by our distribution center before we can be sure that we will receive stock.

Honestly, your best bet is to do what other posters have been saying and be persistent but polite when asking about the Wii. It can be quite trying on some employees who have to answer the "Do you have any Wiis?" question a couple hundred times a day.:D The only foolproof way to get one without being persistent is to see if it shows up in an circular/ad for Sunday and show up before the store opens that Sunday. Usually a minimum amount is listed, and more than likely there aren't many people who pay attention to the ad anyway. I remember having several people throughout the day when the PS3 launched still asking if we had any in stock. Not to be ignorant or mean, but when does it become common sense that a new video game system will not be available on launch day to anyone outside those who were willing to sit out in the cold for one i.e. earn it?:D So, yeah. I apologize for the rant and wish you the best of luck. It is definitely worth the effort. It's like the effort I've put forth trying to get a perfect score in bowling. I still can't get past 279.:D

Well guys, I'm now one of the lucky few to have a Nintendo Wii.

This morning I got up early to go to a Target to see if they might have one. I read somewhere that they usually start selling new shipments of them on Sunday, and they tend to go in two hours. I went to Target, and found nothing. Then I went to another Target, and found nothing.

I decided to go to Toys R Us, which wasn't even opened yet. I saw people out there standing on a line. Mind you, it wasn't a very long line. I'm sitting in my car wondering what a bunch of grown people, and not many kids, could be doing lined up in front of a store like Toys R Us. Later on I just decided to join the line and ask what it was all about. The ones I asked said they were on line hoping to get a Wii. So I just decided to wait with them. Then this lady comes out handing out flyers saying that they have Wiis available, and she said there are about 100 of them in stock. That was more than enough to satisfy the length of the queue. Now what I had overlooked was that I had to accept Sonic and the Secret Rings in the package, and that just added about $50 more to the cost. Thankfully I actually had enough money on me to accept the bundle. We all even got $30 gift cards with our bundles. Anyway I'm looking to sell the game, and I'll just use the gift card to buy The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Yeah, Target gets shipments Friday Night, Sunday Night, and... Wednesday Night, I believe. (Therefore, new stuff is on shelves Monday, Thursday, and Saturday). [Note: This may just be our Target]

Target tends to "hold" Wiis until Sunday just so the ad isn't lying.
