If you found someone that is under 13 who is registered and posting on the boards (not that I am:ack:), what would happen to them? Just wondering.

We attempt to contact their parents and see if they give a written letter of approval for their child to be here. If not, they're banned until they turn 13.

-BBThat really happens? I've occasionally seen, boards have written permission when you hit the "too young" button, but never heard of anyone getting through that way. o_0

What if you found out that a user had joined before they were 13, but has turned 13 before you found out.

Then it is not a problem, I mean...they might not be high regarded...they lied afterall.

I think it's happened a few times here. It's pretty obvious when a user is simply writing the "parents" letter themselves. I doubt a parent would have the same writing style as their 12 year old.

Nothing would happen. If the user is now 13, then theres nothing we can do about them being here before that.

I can think of at least two members like that, but, yeah, it's too late to do anything.

There are intelligent 12 year olds, and there are stupid adults...Just saying :)Of course there are, but this rule has nothing to do with the level of maturity of the user. In fact, TZ didn't even come up with this rule.

 ah, so that's where coppa comes from. I've seen it in my admin section but never knew. The only people who seem to go into that was sexyvixons.porn anyway. :p

I think you missed the point of what I was saying. It was in regards to Bird Boys "Parental Letters," comment.

COPPA has good intentions, but dealing with it when it comes to message board registrations is a pain.

My forum disabled the COPPA forms for that reason alone.

Then again the server is in the Netherlands, where COPPA isn't valid.

...Why is this such a big deal? I'm sure there's nothing on a forum about cartoons that's too harsh for some 12 year old to lay eyes on.:p

I noticed that today in the speeding thread. You would think, if your already lieing about being 13, why would you advertise that your ten? It might be maturity, it might be mistake.
