The New York Post reports that the movie channel AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS will be censoring the "Our Gang" two reel comedies when the shorts premeire on August 6th.
AMC has also banned a few shorts as well, including the 1933 film "The Kid From Borneo", the network said in a press release, that they WILL NOT air any of the racially controverisal that have, except in rare instances been kept off the TV for about twenty years.
This does come as a surprise to me considering that AMC does present films that contain racial stereotypes all the time, the channel is also known for presenting films that star "STEPIN FECHIT", go figure.

You can buy a 21 tape boxed set of every Little Rascal short (the talkies anyway, I think it also includes a few of the silents) at Movie Doctor (http://www.moviedr.com) for 50% off. They're all uncut too. There's also a DVD boxed set that has the contents of the first 12 tapes.

Hmm... that's a pretty good deal! I may look into that. Also, while searching this same site (search for "cartoon") I came across a CARTOON EXPLOSION DVD (!). CARTOON EXPLOSION is the series of PD videos from "Front Row Entertainment" made up of mostly redrawn WB shorts which have been appearing in K-Mart's bargin bins lately. This site has it for $7.99. For that low price we could be enjoying redrawn Porky cartoons on DVD! :) :p
Here are the contents listed on the site:
Fresh Hare-Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd
The Wabbit Who Came to Supper-Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd
The Wacky Wabbit-Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd
Yankee Doodle Daffy-Daffy Duck
Daffy and the Dinosaur-Daffy Duck
The Unruly Hare-Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd
Corny Concerto-Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd
Porky's Garden-Porky Pig
Daffy's Southern Exposure-Daffy Duck
Daffy Duckaroo-Daffy Duck
Porky's Bear Facts-Porky Pig
Dog Gone Tired
Jerky Turkey
Porky's Midnight Matinee-Porky Pig

Wow!
Porky's Garden-Porky Pig
Daffy's Southern Exposure-Daffy Duck
Daffy Duckaroo-Daffy Duck
Porky's Bear Facts-Porky Pig
Porky's Midnight Matinee-Porky Pig
I bet their print of Porky's Bear Facts is better than CN's...which has a ton of dirt on the print.
This is actually pretty good...I doubt they screwed up the soundtracks like WinStar did.
One word of caution: Daffy Duckaroo is usually B&W on public domain tapes.

I have a copy of the CARTOON EXPLOSION VHS tape with "Daffy Duckaroo" on it. I can tell you that it is indeed the redrawn version (on the VHS tape, at least).

Isn't "Fresh Hare" the cartoon CN edits to cut the minstrel scene at the end? If it is, I wonder if the "Cartoon Explosion" DVD version is edited or uncut.

Hmm, that may be the mysterious "Cartoon DVD #1" that was released back in March that I've always wondered about. I've never been able to find any info on it, except that the retail price was $7.99, which matches the Cartoon Explosion price exactly. That's probably what it is. Supposedly a "Cartoon DVD #2" was released back in March as well.
Anyway, if you really do plan on ordering anything from that site, use this code when you're checking out: moviedr10. That'll take 10% off your total.
