it's official. I dunno...He sure doesn't look like the Kingpin I know. But then, the comic Kingpin would hard to pull off on film. I can't think of a single actor. Brando's big enough, but did you see "The Score"? He could barely cross the room without losing his breath. Ah, what do I know? I still say Guy Pearce would be a better DD.

I can kind of see it, but are they going to bulk him up any? He's tall, but he doesn't have the girth that Fisk needs.

After seeing Memento, Guy Pearce = Daredevil.
Michael Clarke Duncan is the only person that could come close to KingPin. He a big man + he can act. They may give him something to wear to expand his already big size.

I think this is a great choice. Can't wait to see how intimidating he is on the big screen!

He is one big dude. I mean he doesn't have the girth(which is pure grade A muscle), but he's like a giant and a half. I'm sure he will do a good job.

An interesting choice, but I'm looking forward to it.
And for my money, Guy Pearce can play any superhero he wants to. Well....maybe not Spider-Man, but you know what I mean.
But Ben Affleck is a huge Daredevil fan, so we can be sure he'll at least strive to do it well.

I was thrilled to hear Duncan as the Kingpin. The man has a huge physical presence, which is just what you need. And I just picture him facing off against Ben Affleck and it makes me smile.
Garner is also, for my money, an excellent choice. She can act and definitely pull off the cool action stuff (as shown on Alias weekly).
Ben Affleck...this one I am not as happy with. I am hopeful that he will do a good job, and I believe that he can, but...
Guy Pierce was my personal favorite, with Matt Damon as my second (ads for the Bourne Identity show Matt in an action hero type role and he looks like he can pull it off).
Colin Farrell I know nothing about, so I have no comment.
This has the potential to be a huge and amazing film. I really hope they pull it off.

When I told my friend that Duncan was playing Kingpin,he cried out (and I quote) :"KINGPIN'S NOT BLACK!!"
Then I calmly explained to him how hard it was to find a white actor who fit the part.

I see no problem with The Kingpin being black. After all, the movie takes place in Hell's Kitchen, and it would be like The Kingpin betraying his own. From what I've heard from people who've read the script, DD is going to be a very urban, gritty movie.

I heard that they had the field narrowed to two actors: Michael Clarke Duncan and Scottish character actor Robbie Coltrane (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, The World Is Not Enough. Although both actors have the ability to pull off the role, neither of them "look" like Wilson Fisk. (Coltrane is WAY too short and Duncan, as mentioned before, is black.) As you all know, they chose Duncan. He has the ability to make you forget that The Kingpin was white in the first place. The only problem I forsee is the "stereotyping African-American actors" arguement popping up again. (Keep in mind that Fisk is a crime boss.) As far Ben Affleck goes, he isn't my first choice, but he'll be good. At least it isn't someone real stupid like Pauly Shore or the "teen actor of the week".

On the subject of sterotyping black actors, here is an interesting peice of news. Cuba Gooding Jr. ( the black marine in Pearl Harbor) was in an interview with ET in which he complianed because he wanted to try out for the part of daredevil but couldn't get an audition. Chris Rock was also complaining because he wasn't allowed to audition for spiderman.

In all honesty I think he is the best choice for Kingpin...
Sure there are the obvious differances, but really it all comes down to acting.

Speaking as a black guy - if Chris Rock got the part as Spider Man I'd probably scream bloody murder. Osmosis Jones, anyone? IMHO, and not trying to come off as elitist, but he SHOULDNT have gotten an audtion :P It just doesnt fit
Cuba could maybe get a shot out of it. He's built enough, has the sense of humor but his presence as Daredevil would come off as rather....wishy washy. His style doesnt fit my own personal idea of Daredevil. - but you know its not always about whose black/white/green/brown/mauve/chartruese/plaid/polka-dot/whatever.
Personally I think Micheal Clarke is perfect for the Kingpin role. To be honest I cant imagine anyone else with it now that I think about it - that is such a HUGE size that can act except Brando. And Brando is more fat than girth ^___^
Overall though - I'm pleased with him as a choice

I'm black and I don't want to see a black Daredevil or HEAVEN FORBID a black Batman. Kingpin...I dunno...if I were casting this film I would've stayed as close to the original characters as possible. Comics are very visual in nature (obviously) and the connection with a character's appearance is much stronger than in other written media. MCD as Kingpin... I just would've looked harder.

Speaking of this subject, what do you think of the casting of Sam Jones III as Pete Ross on the Smallville TV series?

Funny you should say that.I remember once on the official TNBSA messageboards, someone once suggested Laurence Fishburne as Batman.
On another note,Dwayne McDuffie(creator of Static) once wrote a proposal for an Elseworlds story with a black Batman. He has it on his website DwayneMcDuffie.com (http://www.dwaynemcduffie.com)

So Micheal Clark Duncan will be the kingpin ehh? I guess they've couldn't find anyone to play such an powerful adversary to DD himself. All i can say to Micheal is good luck and play this rule the best you can. Yeah i know it will screw up comics continuity cuase Fisk is white but let's worry about that when the box office reciepts come in when the movie comes out ok?

Hey, don't knock Osmosis Jones, man!
:p
Seriously, Michael Clarke Duncan can probably be a good Kingpin and Ben Affleck can be a good Daredevil. On the latter, remember who Affleck's buddy is...Kevin Smith couldn't let him do a bad job!
