I got my copy on Friday, and I've been playing it over the weekend... Very nice stuff here, and it's definitely going to be one of the biggest reasons for many fighter fans to upgrade to a PS3. It's fluid and smooth, and as deep as ever. And the new characters are great. No online = no problem, in my opinion, as a game of this nature requires the ability to have your inputs not be interrupted, and any lag would ruin the momentum.

Does it actually run at 60 frames per second? The commercials seemed to have them at 30.

Obviously there's no official way of telling without having a dev-kit, but just from playing it's fairly obvious that is is at or at least near 60FPS. I have noticed no lag whatsoever, which is why I'm so impressed by how the game plays.

Huge VF fan here.

How does the gameplay compare to the past installments?

It's very similar to Evo, but as I said above everything feels more fluid due to the awesome animations. Every VF fan I've talked to that's played it has loved it. It's clearly the best 3D fighter right now, period.

I really want this, but im not willing to drop $600 on a PS3 to play it right now. I'll pick it up on the 360 in August, I just hope the joystick gets put out on the 360 as well.

I highly doubt Hori will make another 360 stick anytime soon, but you should be able to find the DOA one fairly easily if you just look. It was a really great stick, too, for the money

Now here's a tech reporter from MSNBC who's got the right idea about what Virtua-Fighter 5 should be, and in fact this particular article tells all about it.

What I find mostly intrigunig is that here you have a reporter who's actually not badmouthing the game, he's actually praising it, but is only complaining about its one lacking element to make this game into a mega-hit.

and that is of course the lack of On-line tournament play.

Let's face it I don't know why Sega couldn't come up with even a simple patch to give people a chance to go head to head with their friends, and start up so called "Virtua-Fighter Fight Clubs." (Much in the same way that Quake and Doom and other Online games have).

So if I had a question to ask Sega, it would be this.. Why can't they just fix the issue and let folks have the online fun others have? In short why build a game if you aren't or rather can't have fun with your friends Online?

that's saying a lot from a person who's done online gaming before and enjoyed it a bit.. but sadly until the folks at Sega get the idea, I think I'll pass of VF5.. that is until they fix it or they create VF6 with the online play.

Just my thoughts.

Does VF5 have an actual story? I vaguely remember there being a storyline for like 1 and maybe 2, but I'm drawing a blank now.

Yes, but it's stupid. Just like every other fighter story.
