Was every Turner-owned WB cartoon (excluding the Censored 11)included on the the Golden Age of Looney Tunes set of laserdiscs?

(BTW, My library has the 5-volume video version of GAOLT, including "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" :D !!)

ebay is a good place to find the laserdiscs, but they won't be cheap. Since each set has about 70 cartoons on it, they are in fairly high demand by collectors...and you have to buy a used player. Also, I believe that like the videos, some have Bugs Bunny Nips The Nips, some do not.

Jon has a page with all the contents listing too, just go to the videos section of his page.

For the sake of accuracy the GAOLT laser disc series does not have every Turner owned title. It certainly has the majority though. Almost every color cartoon excepting those being members of the elite "Censored Eleven". "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" was briefly released on Volume One, before it's getting yanked and re-released without this title. None of the black and white Bosko's or Buddy's titles are there, though the majority of the b/w Merrie Melodies can be found, (but not all). NO black and white Porky Pig titles either. Generally speaking the box sets cost more the later the series volume number is, with Volume 5 by far the rarest. Always thought this title was a misnomer as there are actually very few "Looney Tune" titles, but almost the complete Merrie Melodie releases. Worth getting only if you can't wait 5 years for a DVD compendium. Anyone tried to DVDR these LD discs yet ?,

Actually, they do contain every Turner-owned cartoon except for the "Censored 11".

When WB sold off their pre-1948 cartoons to a.a.p. in 1956, the package included all the color Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes (up to "Haredevil Hare") and all the black & white Harman-Ising Merrie Melodies (except "Lady Play Your Mandolin"). Bosko, Buddy, B&W Porky were never in the a.a.p. package. (Turner acquired the a.a.p. package of cartoons in 1985).

Be careful if you buy the first laserdisc set. It was re-released towards the end of the LD era with "Racketeer Rabbit" in place of "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips". I know cause I ended up with the "Racketeer Rabbit" copy, and had to use Ebay to find the "Nips the Nips" copy. BTW, I own all 5 sets! :D

Did AAP own the Bosko/Buddy/BW Porky package before Turner bought it in 1985?

Just got a DVD-R and I have Vol 1-4 of GOALT. Planning on burning them to DVD disc and then maybe selling the LD's on ebay. With an SVHS video input, I'm confident the video quality will be good but I am not so sure about the audio component. Have to run a few tests first. If it doesn't hold up, I'll keep them. Don't need the $$$ that badly. But might like to convert the Vol 1-4 $$$ into Vol 5, which I have but its only a VHS copy.

Oops... I guess I didn't word that right. Sorry. What I meant was, Turner bought the a.a.p. package in 1985.

As for the B&W Looney Tunes and non-Harman & Ising Merrie Melodies... they weren't sold to a.a.p. Warner Bros originally sold them to a TV distributor called Sunset Productions. Sunset Productions then sold them to another company called Guild Films. Guild Films was accquired by Seven Arts Associated in the 1960s. Seven Arts and Warner Bros. merged in the late-60s... so, those cartoons returned to Warner control.

Okay, I think I probably confused everyone even more...

What about the vhs version? I own one, the "Tex avery" video with Egghead on the front. I also have a vhs duplicate of one of them (I think a side of a Laserdisk). Did the vhs version of the series include all the 70 films?

The VHS series was essentially all of Box set Volume # 1 spread out over 10 VHS tapes. The other sets, numbers 2 thru 5 were never released on VHS, at least as part of a GOALT series. Some made it into other VHS compilations of course.

The first GAOLT set was indeed released to VHS. Each side of the LD was released on an individual VHS tape (10 volumes) or as a 5-tape box set (where each single tape featured the contents of 2 individual tapes).

The VHS tapes did contain all the same titles as the LD, which, of course, led to the "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" fiasco that ended with VHS Vol. 7 and the entire VHS box set to be pulled from stores and never re-released.

GAOLT LD sets Vol. 2 - 5 were never released on VHS.
