Thanks for the reminder, Nelson!
I also know that TCM is going to be braodcasting the "Laurel & Hardy" shorts that used to air on AMC. Thank GOd AMC doesn't have the rights to them anymore. They might stick commercials in them like they do to the "Little Rascals".

Some other surprises that I heard for TCM's month long tribute to the Short Subjects.Keep in mind that this is what I heard and it's not confirmed at press time.
Some of the "Our Gang" shorts might air, as well as "The Three Stooges" (one in two strip techincolor) shorts when the comedy team was at MGM before they jumped ship to Columbia.
Early sound Vitaphone shorts and some of the earliest techincolor shorts from the introduction of sound in the late 20s.
But there is no word if any cartoons will be shown, which would kinda surprise me considering the cartoons were a part of the short subject package.
But, I'll keep everybody posted on further news for the festival!

Where did you hear this? There's nothing about it on the TCM website, and no mention of it by anyone on the alt.comedy.laurel-hardy newsgroup, which counts among its regulars some very informed and authoritative L&H fans and historians.

What's so controversial about them?

Seems like only yesterday that I was remarking how long it would be until they showed the shorts festival. Now, it's here.

The Dogville Comedies have had some problems with the censors and animal rights actvists in the last couple of years.People that have actually seen the series have had mixed reviews on seeeing the two reel comedies. In some cases the way that the dogs were trained, you might fell a little sqwirmish to see how these dogs peform on screen.A rumor poped up a couple of years ago that a large group of animal rights group asked Turner to banned all of the nine shorts all together, which that didn't happend.
Some of the Dogville shorts do contain a lot of racial stereotype gags such as "TRADER HOUND" (a very politically incorrect short)which would probably be censored all together with it's use of black stereotypes in this short, but it's enjoyable to watch.
And you might be able to reconize one of the voices in the series, BILLY BLETCHER, who is best remembered for being the voices of Disney's BIG BAD WOLF and Warner's HENREY BEAR in the "Three Bears" cartoons.
Tape this Dogville marathon, TCM will be presenting all nine shorts from 1929 to 1931 and you won't believe your eyes. And get ready to laugh your butts off. :bosko: :bosko: :bosko:
