If you're tired of all of the pre-game snooze fest before the kickoff, then watch some really great Football cartoons, to get you ready for the big Superbowl game this sunday.

Here are some excellent football cartoons to get you set for the big game.

Screwball Football -Merrie Melodies
How To Play Football -Goofy
Football Bugs -Color Rhapsodies
Touchdown Mickey -Mickey Mouse
You Gotta Be A Football Hero -Popeye
Peace Time Football -Gandy Goose & Sourpuss
Freddy The Freshman -Merrie Melodies
The Football Toucher Downer -Popeye

If anyone can think of more football toons, then just post them right here :bosko:

Has anyone noticed that there is no 'special' this year on Cartoon Network?

Yeah, it seems they decided to drop the "Big Game" this year. I sort of miss it, though I wonder what they could have done this year.

They basically did all the basic WB cartoon team-up rivals, but did they ever do Speedy vs. Sylvester. Obviously, they wouldn't nowadays, but did they do it back before Speedy was banned?

No, Speedy wasn't ever featured in one. The following characters appeared in "The Big Game":

1998: Tom VS. Jerry
1999: Sylvester VS. Tweety
2000: Road Runner VS. Wile E. Coyote
2001: Bugs VS. Daffy

I have all of them on tape, except for the T&J one, which I didn't tape, since I wasn't interested in T&J at the time. I wish I did though. :(

While it isn't a theartical short, in 1993 there was a Peanuts special, "You're in the Superbowl, Charlie Brown" which was available on VHS tapes sold at Shell gas stations. Good luck finding a copy now, though!

There's a football scene in the early Fleischer cartoon "Chess-Nuts."

Let's not forget about "Sport Chumpions" (even though I'd like to foget about it :p .)

Now if Turner would purchase the rights to the Walter Lantz, DePatie-Freleng, Columbia, Terrytoon, and Harveytoon cartoons, we could see some "BIG GAME" specials like this,

Fox VS. Crow

Pink Panter VS. Inspector

Woody Woodpecker VS. Wally Walrus

Herman VS. Katnip

Gandy Goose VS. Sourpuss

Moe Hare VS. Tommy Tortise

How can they forget the one great rivalry they still have in their collection?

POPEYE vs. BLUTO!!!!

Are these guys to PIC to air during daytime/prime time?

Or is it just another chapter in the deadening of CN classics?
