Now that we know the movie is rated R, the viewer numbers will be cut in half since a lot of 15-16 year olds watch the show. I'll still see it, but it's a bad move for the movie.

15 and 16 no make it to an R movie or rent it later? *falls over laughing*
But Aqua Teen Hunger Force gets it's best ratings with 18+ anyway so there's no reason for it not to be R rated. I think there were a few episodes rated TV-MA weren't there? Though most are TV-14. It is a show intended for adults so it makes perfect sense for the movie to be rated R.

It's not exactly hard for a teenager to see an R-rated movie.

I guess your right, there were tons of teens watching Saw 3, plus it means that it will be uncut. I guess I reacted before I thought about it.

In all this time I've watched Adult Swim I've never known them to run ads for R-rated movies. Will they make an exception in this case?

I'm pretty sure AS has aired adds for R rated movies. Why wouldn't they? There main demograph is 18-34.

I think it had something to do with Turner's Standards Department. I don't think it's been a problem since the network split thing.

Yeah, they buy tickets to G rated movies and then go into the R rated movies instead, meaning Aqua Teen Hunger Force won't get the sales. But, I doubt teenagers will really affect the sales that much anyway.

Or they get their friends who are 17 or 18 to buy them tickets.

i dunno
The only time I've gotten carded when trying to get into an R rated movie (pre and post-turning 18) was when I went to see Southpark BL&U. With all the hysteria! surrounding the "Boston incident", I wouldn't be suprised if some sort of hysterical news personality stirs the pot a bit and the big chains start enforcing the same policy from Southpark.
I'm sure you can still get tickets to whatever uber-violent horror/porn flick opens that week if you can't get in.

Well, considering how many theaters have automated ticket kiosks, I'd have to imagine that unless they also carded at the point of ticket collection (which happens, but very, very rarely) it'd be very easy for many teenagers (who often have visa or mastercard backed debit cards if not out right credit cards,) to just buy their tickets at a kiosk (or even via MovieFone/Fandango) and walk right in. Basically, it'd take a real hysteria to get things so stringent to card during ticket collection, and even then, if the theater's busy, they aren't going to put the effort in to block it.

Very good point
Fandango (and fandango like services) have pretty much eliminated the need for ticket sellers (or any effective way for ticket sellers to police purchases).

Not to mention there's little to no consistancy when you might actually get carded. Just yesterday after my girlfriend and I got our tickets for Reno 911: Miami, an older fella behind me got carded for Number 23. We wern't carded for a drug filled, booby showin' R rated stoner flick, but an older-looking guy WAS carded for a Jim Carrey thriller -which, I dunno...MIGHT have something objectionable in it. Like the F word, or blood, or something.

Yeah, and that's completely legal. Rated R means ONE of the people with you must be 17 or older. This isn't NC-17.

Or they just tell the guy at the ticket counter that it's their birthday.

Or they know the person at the counter. Happens all the time.

This movie will be R rated?
Does this mean we get to hear Meatwad talk like DMX?

In situatuions like these we just sneek in. That, or have a older friend go with us.
Age rated content has never stopped me from watching anything. I would be 12 watching a show for 17 year olds. I hate america's rating system. Trying to water down everything so the kids won't be exposed to the content. Kids are already exposed to it in their homes and schools. They probably heard more swearing at school then a unedited episode of ATHF.
