View Full Version : The new TMNT
What do you guys want to see in the new TMNT animated series? Would you like to see it more like the original comic or the original series? It will most likely be a lot lighter than the comic books, as it's being developed for children. The show is now being "focus tested" as I reported in my latest update (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=142692#post142692) at Toon Zone News. As a long time fan, I'm really looking forward to the series.

Hmmm.....being a pretty big Turtles fan I would actually like to see the turtles in kind of a darker light - more like the comic book. The proposed 'Batman Beyond' style would actually work great, IMO. The reason is while the comic was dark the original cartoon was very light hearted - I think something right in the middle could be awesome. It would still contain the action that WB has provided us with in the past and also the same humor that made the turtles so popular in the cartoon. Besides how kewl would the turtles look with the shading of BB?

PS: How can I be a focus tester? :D

I totally agree with you. I'd love see the "BB" look on it. I'm just worried that the animation might turn out like "Static Shock!" or "The Zeta Project" which have a much lighter background and tone than what "Batman Beyond" had. I'd like to see them ditch the surfer talk. I wonder who would voice-act on the new series? Will Friedle, the voice of Terry/Batman on "Batman Beyond?"
I also can't wait to see the designs of the Turtles. I'm pretty psyched.
I hadn't heard about a new TMNT Series (still trying to forget that Live action Fox kids things)
Any additional links?

Why get a bunch of kids who're going to just give the answers that the adults want to hear when you could ask intelligent critcal folk like us?
See, its because of this that shows like Alienators: Evolution and Rescue Heroes get made.
:p

I think we are all trying to forget that series.
There are additional links. We've posted a few articles on the series over the past several months at Toon Zone News.
Here are the articles from Toon Zone News (http://news.toonzone.net):
http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5796&highlight=ninja+turtles - First initial report announcing the new series
http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12319&highlight=ninja+turtles - Reports that Warner Bros. Animation will be animating
http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15078&highlight=ninja+turtles - Reports that the show is most likely headed to Kids' WB! However, it could still head to Cartoon Network instead/

I remember reading something on the official Turtles site that said they were not going to be following any of the continuity that was a result of the next mutation series.

Ok Vince you asked for some voices and here's what I came up with:
Leo - Norm Spencer (Cyclops in orig X-Men toon)
Mikey - Michael Rosenbaum (Flash of JLTAS)
Ralph - Rino Romano (Spidey in spidey unlimited)
Don - George Buza (Beast from X-Men toon)
Splinter - Jackie Chan (Don't know about this one - JCA)
April O'Neil - Jennifer Hale (Black Cat from Spidey TAS)
Shredder - Johnathon Frankes (ST:TNG and Xanatos of Gargoyles)
Bebop - Bill Fagerbakke (Broadway from Gargoyles)
Rocksteady - Michael Dorn (ST:TNG and Coldstone from Gargoyles - think about how intimidating Rocksteady would be)
While the original cast would fit the best (at least in my mind) I would love to see this talented bunch doing the voices for the TMNT cartoon on WB.

I would like to see most of all in the series:
MATURITY. Even if it's a kid's show.
The turtles, for most of thier history, have a lot of untapped potential in being something serious, but the "fad" it became kept a lot of that from being realized. I would love nothing more than a gripping plot.
Second thing is the animation. Anything dark MUST be for the Turtles. BB would be excellent, as said. But perhaps a bit of anime would be alright, too. *suddenly thinks of anime TMNT* Yes, anime would never happen, but it would be EXCELLENT. :D
Third....please give this show a chance and don't mess with it, adding in zany plot points or giving it a lousy time slot. We're in a 80s comeback, and it would be stupid not to realize that. Don't mess with the soul, I'm trying to say.
It's sad, though, that I have a feeling none of this will probably be heeded...:(

Personally, I'd like to see a mix and match of the movie AND cartoon voices.
Cartoon: Leonardo, Shredder, Splinter, and Michaelangelo. Movie: April, Raphael, Donatello, Casey Jones...
If not, I'd like to see,
Michael Dorn as Shredder(A Voice Deep enough)
Batman Voice as Leonardo(Name Escapes me)....
I'd have to review other cast lists to make my choices... those are just the ones that come to mine.

I'm sorry nobody has ever tried to take on "Yosagi Yojimbo." Easy action-adventure; if it was done right, even a swipe at an Educational rating.

ok, I can forgive your love of power rangers....
I can look past your silly avatar...
But don't you DARE compare A:EC to the utter crap that is Recue Heros. A:EC is one of the best shows on Fox Kids right now...it's funny, well written, and the animation isn't 1/2 bad.
Rescue Heros is just plain dumb.
That said...so long as we don't have aliens, dragons, female turtles, *sigh*
Well, IMDB doesn't have any info yet...=[
This thread is very interesting. Personally I, being a child of the 80's enjoyed the turtles when they were on, and I look forward to seeing them again. But one thing with all this voice casting has me confused: How do you guys know that characters like Rocksteady or Shredder will appear? I mean we don't know who or what will get changed.
"Resign yourself to your meaty fate!"- Zim
"Attempted murder, now honestly what is that? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry do they?"- Sideshow Bob
"Oooh (laughs) you won't see that at the auto show"- the Joker
"Why don't you go bother the kids on Goof Troop?"- Dot Warner.

Hey thanks naraht!
I think the one on the left would be closer to the style the show would be in but the one on the right is just a case of awesome turtle power and a possibiltiy - a little darker shading and I could see this style for a new show too!

Hey guys, over at the Comics board, the latest John Delaney poll has the Ninja Turtles on it. If they win, Mr. Delaney will draw them in animated style! Knowing there are a few Turtles fans over here, I'd thought I'd mention it. This might be cool to see what they might look in animated style, "Batman Beyond" - esque. Vote by clicking here (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18930)! Vote soon because the poll closes tomorrow at 5:00 PM!

Yeah, I think the Turtles would look good that way in animated form.

Kevin Conroy as Leonardo? Hmm...Kevin as Batman is very brooding. I don't know if I could see Leo the same way. Nah, that's just me thinking of the original "Ninja Turtles" series Leo with Kevin Conroy's voice. Obviously, that wouldn't work there. :D

Vince, which version did you like most? I personally thought the one on the left looked more like the WB style of animation.
Has there been anymore word on the status of this series? Last I knew the series had been greenlit - just wondering if the WB was going to keep us in the loop or not?
Thanks :D

I'd love to see a TMNT animated series in the style of the original comics, yes... but what I would REALLY love to see is the series in the style of A. C. Farley... check the link and take a look... I know it will never happen, but hey... a fan can dream, can't he? :)
