I recently read somewhere that there is some new Power Puff Girls series in the works where they are teenagers. Is that true?

That would be PPGZ, which has been running in Japan since last year, and CNJapan is getting it in April. It has not been announced for CNUS

I've watched some clips of it, and its just so...anime-esque. Personally, I wouldn't want to watch it because it looks like they've kind of dumbed down the humor and made it much more campy than the original. Has anyone actually seen the series here?

I've watched a whole episode. It was kinda boring.

I love anime, but come on. Does everything they touch have to become anime?

I admit, the first five episodes were boring, but as soon as the series started focusing on other villans, it got MUCH better.

Well, the first 5 episodes are all Mojo-centered (he starts to become boring by episode 3), and then episodes 6 onward start introducing other villans, so it gets interesting again.

Reminds me of that PPG episode where Proffesor was dreaming, and he was dreaming about creating new girls, that was called "Off The Mile Girls'' Or something like that. Also reminds when there was some "Villains" In prison and they discys themselves as the Powerpuff Girls.

^ Then what are you doing in here?

Most of us read a thread's subject-title first, and if it's something we don't care for, we don't bother going in. You might consider following a similar proceedure.

I've been 'Googling' about the new Power Puff Girls Z idea that they produced and I really am scratching my head as to why folks would hate it.. (Frankly from the clips I have seen and the ideas behind the stories, it really doesn't detract from the original, but rather, enhances the ideas.

I mean the new potential series looks good in Japan, and I think if they were to use English actors for this show, hopefully they would keep to the original VA's that made PPG (The US Version) what it was ... After all they would only have to add a few extra voices in (Like Professor Utonium's son0 but Believe me, from what I can tell from the clips and promos, PPG Z could be CN's Next big hit..(almost as big as Yugi Oh, Xioalin Showdown, and even Yes, Pokemon (all series).

After all the show even though it is anime in nature still keeps to the working PPG formula (from what I can tell you'll have almost an anime version of the original show.. and some of the ideas look interesting now that they have put this into an anime format..

So in closing I do hope they do put this on CNUS, cause Believe me, I would watch it..

Oh Okay Vincent.. then we'll force you to watch 24 hours Scooby Doo, for two years straight, (including the episodes with Scrappy Doo in them...:p).

But seriously.... Getting back on Topic here, I still think PPG Z does have possibilites and in fact it could really start to appeal to the anime crowds.. but then maybe this is what McKraken would have wanted.. didn't he actually approve of the idea? At least that is what I heard...

SPOILERS AHEAD

I've seen the pilot episode posted online, and I have some problems with it.
All the elements I liked in the the original show- the distinct character designs, familial warmth, Mojo's hilarious speech patterns- are absent or much diminished.
And I think the new weapons are silly, particularly the bubble blower.
And some bits were just too weird- not endearingly quirky; *weird*. Like those Captain Planetesque rings that just appeared out of nowhere. And the scene where everybody breaks in the middle of a fight to eat ice cream (with the flavors subtitled.) Maybe this reflects some specifically Japanese sense of humor, but it just left me going "Huh??"

I might try to watch a few more eps to see if I like those better. But at this point I'm not too hopeful.

> I've been 'Googling' about the new Power Puff Girls Z idea that they produced and I really am scratching my head as to why folks would hate it. It basically has little to nothing to do with the original Powerpuff Girls. Toned down violence and fights, not the same type of humor, contrived plotlines and weird-takes on the villains (Him is more of a jester than a devil, Sedusa is a sympathetic villain, etc) along with weird new villains (sushi monsters, a pencil and eraser that comes to life, etc)

It's basically a random little girl anime with Powerpuff Girls coating.

Or in other words, you shouldn't take it too seriously.

I tend to agree with you. PPGZ would probably be an ideal SatAM series on either CN or KWB, and with any luck, it might spark new interest in the originals. I don't understand why CN greenlighted this, and then apparently have refused to air it on its own home network. I mean, how are they going to find out whether there is a U.S. audience for this show or not, if nobody aside from a few fansub outlets ever sees it?

I actually hope this never sees the light of day over here. From everything I've heard about it, and what little I've seen of it, I can't see this doing very well over here. If CN isn't even airing the original, classic series in it's own time slots anymore, what chance does this have?

That's a good question Gary, but I think CNUS needs to really at least run this like some of its Adult Swim stuff..(Heck the only Reason why Shin Chan is back is because CN(AS) ran this show and in fact folks liked it.

As for myself I feel that PPGZ sticks nicely to the original theme of the series, and in fact I noted in a few clips that they even do things that the original series did..(For Example the Robot idea that the original idea had is incorporated.. Professor Utonium in his supersuit? Same thing.. even the talking dog idea is cute and doable.. In short I think PPGZ could actually work with an American Anime audience. at least it would be perfect for KWB, or CNUS.. and it would be rather interesting to watch. But until CNUS does do something this one will be on hold till they realize they have an audience.. so I think it will work, but CN has to take that chance.. else it will never fly.

Actually Darth, it might surprise you. After all people are starting to get tired a bit of the older less intriguing stylizations.. I mean come on, Who in their Right mind wants to watch Scooby Doo anymore? Yet every couple of months it seems WB Cranks out another Scooby Doo animated Story. and I think folks get tired of that. And Pokemon is going on its 10th season, and that too is getting old.. But PPGZ? I think it has a chance provided CN does a test run with it... But until they do, they won't know what will work and what doesn't.

But until CN actually tries this out, there's no real way of knowing.. and from the scenes I have seen I think this series could really work.. provided CN does try it.. else they'll never know.

Er, The PPGZ was decent, but I haven't exactly been wowed by it. I could really benefit from a Lupin The 3rd-esque Dubbing
