A lot of you comic fans may have missed one of the most important subplots in the history of dc comics -

Buried under a horribke generic cover , Superman standing in front of an american flag with an eagle on his shoulder - gee have we seen this before?

A subplot mixed in with a boring - preachy meeting between
Superman and one of DC's most innane characters Uncle Sam -

President Luthor obtains old spy satelite photos of a small
rocket ship crashing on a farm in smallville kansas 28 years ago.

A farm belonging to the Kent family ... and a craft bearing kryptonian markings.

Lex knows !

Game On ! !

God this has to be one of the biggest sleeper
issues DC has ever tried to slip past the fans.

A year from now people will be scrambling to get this
under ordered issue. This ones a collectible.

~

And Im dying to see the new dymnamic between
a oresident luthor who knows Supermans secret
and a helpless Clark.

( I hope they handle it as well as millar handled kingpin
discovering daredevils identity )

Everybody read this issue ?

Thoughts?

I've got a feeling this post is going to be changed or deleted. That's a big spoiler to be putting in a thread title. And besides, there's already a talkback thread going for this issue.

Superman #178, which came out last week.

You're right! The thread title is (and did) getting edited, but the thread will stay. And I'm sure you think "the title still gives it away". Well - here's a post from Jeph Loeb on the official DC Boards that should help out....:)

The thread was called LEX KNOWS THE SECRET!

Hey.
My understanding is the spoiler warning is there to keep things from being spoiled.

"LEX KNOWS THE SECRET" could actually mean a great deal of things. That's all it says. It doesn't say WHAT secret -- and if you, Mxy, or you, Mego, have such an urge to OPEN the thread and then [explentive deleted]about how he's wrecked your Saturday, and then, [explentive deleted] about how this guy should act like an adult -- my advice --

-- buy a mirror.

Marcellus didn't do anything wrong -- at least from my point of view -- and I wrote the darn thing.

Do I have a problem with "Aquaman is DEAD!? (spoilers!)" - yeah, I get it. That person wrecked the surprise.

But -- "Lois' deal with Lex (spoilers)" -- that doesn't tell you anything -- OTHER than Lois' has a deal with Lex. It's a secret too.

Your serve.

Jeph "Feelin' Fiesty" Loeb

But I agree, the thread should have had a spoiler attached to the name. And Marcellus guy is the dude who started the thread on the official DC Board.

No worries. We're gonna try and finalize some spoiler rules for tv, comics, and movies soon becuase it can get tricky at time. But don't worry...I already knew...;)

That one was a shocker. Man, I can imagine the sick mess Lex is gonna come up with. Remember, this is the leader of the biggest kid on he global block. And before that, he was the baddest cat in general. I see bad things in the future for Superman and his family and friends....

Haven't read the book yet (cause I rarely read Super Titles) but I'll probably grab a peek at this one...

I love how it takes anitquated Spy Photos for Lex to find out, and not the fact that he's met Superman & Clork on varios occasions.

=\

I is tired, look at all my tupos...to tired to fic em....

*sigh(

Yes!

YesyesyesyesyesyesyesYES!

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like an HBO late night feature there, but it's about time somebody started shaking up the Big Red S. Supes has to be the toughest writing job on the planet, because whenever anybody does anything to him, S just gets more powerful and blows out of it.

But this... THIS is the stuff that great stories are made from! The Clark/Lois/Lex triangle was intriguing to begin with, but this elevates everything. I love it!

Congrats, DC, for having the grapefruits to go through with this!

Unless some future lazy writer decides that it's all a dream sequence...

He had to find out eventually--he's too smart not to. I wouldn't be surprised if he sits on this for several years, then strikes. Either way, I'd really hate to be Superman right now.

I think it's really obvious to a lotta people that Lex would use this info to maim or kill a buncha people who are close to Clark. Which is why that won't be happening.

I think Lex'll play with it awhile, figure out the best way to use that information. Remember, the Superman writers are especially well-known for leaving loose-ends just sitting there for a long time, so who knows when this will arise again?

Luthor knew the secret in Superman Vol. 2 #2 (1986). Presented with data gathered from Martha Kent's scrapbook and biological information and comparisons, Luthor's computers concluded that Kent was Superman. Luthor, however, rejected that theory as ludicrous, since he knew that "no man with the power of Superman would ever pretend to be a mere human!"

Apparently, this Lex Luthor is a kinder, gentler Lex Luthor.

I don't read the comic book, but that title is a huge spoiler. Shortening the original title to "Lex Luthor Knows! (Spoilers)" is pretty funny if you ask me. I realized what it meant the second I read it. That may not be the case for everyone here, but I am living proof that some people might know the spoiler before they can avoid the thread. The title says it all. I would've called it "Lex in #138 (big spoilers!)" because people who don't want spoilers can skip the thread and people who don't care or already know can click in and join the fun.

So Lex knows? I imagine now he can blackmail Superman like that cop on Smallville did to Clark. Superman should just kiss Luthor on the lips like he did to Lois in Superman II.

But also, that was back in 1986. For starters, John Bryne wrote it :p

Second, Lex knows both Superman AND Clark Kent a lot more now than he used to. That experience has changed him, and his way of thinking of Superman. He knows Supes is a lot more personal than he is. So I think nowadays it makes sense that Lex could accept it. Especially after seeing the proof.

Okay, I confess...I haven't read Superman regularly for a while now. So what if it happened back in 1986 and John Byrne wrote it? Did it not happen then? Has there been another Crisis/Zero Hour event that wiped it out? How is it that this Lex Luthor whom has become President (don't even get me started on that subject) is different than the one back then? Is the writer just ignoring what has happened before?

*having a heart attack*
I just read about this in a post someone put up over in the news section, and I zipped over here as fast as my fingers could scurry...I can't believe it!! This is horrible....this is....really awesome! I'm cursing myself for skipping the Superman books the last two months, I only hope I can get ahold of one.
