I've been driven to madness by the color purple...or is it blue???
Is it just me, or is the "purple" shade used on Batman's outfit the exact same as the "blue" on Wonder Woman's outfit? So who's really purple? Or who's really blue????

I agree ... I find it annoying and distracting the way
they draw batman - with the multiple color capes ...light
color inside dark color outside .
And drawing bats in blue or black seems almost
blaspemous.
I think the best animated version of batman himself
(even though some of the other characters suffered in the
refit) was latest Batman cartoon which had him in all black - with the black cape ...(black cape on the inside & out ) with the old
black bat symbol on his chest.
It was the coolest most intimidating - truest to the comic - Batman.
I cant imagine why they went back to the old purple/blue costume in Justice League.
Batman is actually the worst drawn character on that show.

Sorry, I have to totally disagree there. Batman looks great.
Its Superman who's gotten the raw deal visually.

I also really like the Bat cape with some blue on it rather than just black and gray. I'd have to say this is my fav animated Bat so far.

Actually, Batman is supposed to have a sort of charcoal.

I think the JL version of Batman is the best animated version.

Yeah I like the JL version best. It's the closest to the current comics, since he has blue in the comics as well.

I mean this in the nicest way possible , as you are all my dear friends ....
You guys have to be smokin low end crack !
Batman wears black ... not purple or papa smurf blue.
Hes supposed to be a creature of the night, with ninja skills who blends into shadows - how are you gonna bend into the shadows wearing multicolored purple capes?
Hes supposed to strike fear in the hearts of his enemies ...
whose he gonna scare wearing a blue cape - Gargamel?
~
The best depiction of Batman ever - was in the flashback scene
of Batman Beyond - Return of the Joker.
All black cape ... menacing ears ( not like the hard to take seriously Tick-ish antana JL bats is sporting now).
Check it out if you havent seen ROTJ.
Also looked pretty good in Worlds Finest - you cant even compare the Batman animation in WFinest to the way theyre animating
Batman in JL.
Batman looked a little lame in Paradise II last night.
They dont seem to draw the agility and grace of the character
the way they were able to capture it on Batman Beyond or Worlds Finest.
In JL hes a little stiff ...

I was never too fond of the TNBA suit since he was rarely drawn correctly, so I'd have to say I like the JL version 2nd best. I'm not too fond of the ears, though. It basically a cross between BTAS and TNBA. It has the eyes/curves/color of old, with the suit of new.
My problem with Bats in JL, is that they rarely draw the cape around his body. He should be shrouded when standing around in a field with the gang, esp. during those crucial DAYLIGHT shots.

I am not smoking any crack. It's called my opinion which I am entitled to. Just as you are entitled to yours. I'm not saying one of us is wrong and one of us is right. But we each to get pick. And I pick the JL Batman. I didn't like it at first, but after "Paradise Lost" those long ears are really starting to grow on me.

I think the best bat costome was the grey & purple costume seen on Adam West. He wasn't as scary as ppl want to make him. Batman is a nice guy, who helps people.

Actually, I really like the BB look, the full mask, lack of cap thing really works..cept I have a hard time visualizing it in RL..
BB's costume looked better on Bruce though..he had the better build for it...

Spirit, get over the Smurf rant.
The cape in both version is supposed to be black and it *is* black.
The highlight is an abstraction to keep it from just being an unintresting mass.
The grey highlight is not meant to indicate that the cape is grey nor is the blue highlight meant to indicate that the cape is blue or even dark blue.
Now that being said, I think the blue works better with the overall costume simply because its not as dull looking as the grey.

Soooo ... the capes not blue ...its black (even though it looks blue
and the use blue paint to animate it ) Its supposed to be black.
That bieng said though you like the blue cape the best (even though we all know the blue is really black) <<wink wink - nudge nudge >>.
OOOOOKkkkay .... no more alcohol for matt.
call me kooky ... I liked it best when they used the color black to
show Batmans black cape.
look at the scenes in return of the joker ... look at World finest.
It just looks better ... and the cape seems to be animated better as well , how it falls and lays on his form.

well, i actually love batman in JL. as far as the highlights on his cape, it changes depending on the surrounding enviornments color, sort of like how in bb terry's hair's shine is blue in the batcave, but brown in regular light. remember, its a shine, so its supose to be reflected light.
if you go to the jl website at cartoonnetwork.com, and listen to the audio tracks bruce timm provided, he says he wanted to experiment with the color palletes used on jl. and so far, theyve been doing that.
like, in secret origins, the first battle scene at the begining w/ batman and superman, its behind a night sky, so his cape's shine is more of a deep purplish-blue, while when he's in the watchtower or in antartica in "the enemy below part 2", his cape shines differently. i think it is great how they do this.
they do this w/ superman as well. his blue suit looks much more purple in the dark or depending on the light emitted on him. like, for instance, i think it was a scene in the enemy below part 1, maybe the scene w/ deadshot, where theres an explosion, and superman is walking toward the fire, so the blue on his costume looks more redish purple.
hope this helps. btw, my favorite batman design is tnba one. peace.

I'm with Matt... The cape is an always has been black... the blue is just a "highlight". I liked the idea of what they tried to do in the TNBA design- Cape all black with grey highlight (and it was actually the SAME shade of grey inside, not all black). Problem was it just usually looked too flat on the screen. and half the time it was just plain badly placed and drawn by KoKo's animators !!
Batman DEFINITELY looks better with the BLUE highlight than the grey, in my opinion. And it doesn't distract me from my belief that the cape is meant to be black. Come on, folks... are we supposed to believe that Superman, Robin, and even Bruce Wayne had BLUE hair in all those comics we read when we were growing up ?? I mean, they were highlighted in blue basically FOREVER, but I think we all know that they were black.

The BTAS cape/cowl,etc is blue, not black. The highlight reflects the capes true color. Whenever Batman is bathed in a bright light, those parts are clearly blue. In the few episodes where he ventures out into broad daylight he is blue, blue, BLUE!!!
The same can be said for Joker's hair color. Everybody knows it is green, but in BTAS it is black with green highlights. I guess he has a green light shining on him at all times.

--in the desert in "The Demon's Head", the highlights on Batman's cape and cowl were a dull fecal brown.

...because he was surrounded by the desert sun at dusk and lots of sand. Anytime fire or dramatic sun lighting was involved, the palette changed dramatically, as it should. Whenever neutral light was in play, or overhead sunlight blue was used; thus it is the natural color of the suit. "The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy" features a ton of shot of a very blue cape/cowl.
I just read the Bruce Timm use of color article on the newspage. While I can't argue with him on those issues, I will take a shot at the fX smoke, fire, water, etc. Those look awful. Handdrawn elements always look better. The CG fire and rain in Paradise Lost part 1 looked like cheap animation somebody attempted at home.

I guess you guys are the types to walk into an art gallery and see a abstract painting as just a bunch of squares giving no thought to the idea that it could be intended as something else.

I love the TNBA look the best. I agree, that its very intimidating and looks much more threatening and darker, which is a good thing. I think in JL, he looks the worst actually. They made him more slender and I don't like that purple/blue. If it had to be a bluish color, I wish they had gone with the old BTAS scheme instead. But my favorite is definitely the TNBA look, you just can't beat it :)

Okay, calm down here. We're all capable of making intelligent assertions without resorting to personal attacks.
Actually, I noticed the odd tone swap on Batman in Secret Origins. It seems like when Batman is in a nighttime element, his highlights are blue, but when he's in a lighter environment, they're gray! Interesting aesthatic choice... I don't think it entirely works, since it makes it seem like he's got two different color schemes. I'd prefer it if they swapped from blue to darker blue, or from gray to darker gray.

I noticed that too. It looked pretty weird, like when Batman is shown behind Superman punching through the security door, he is all black with grey. Next time we see him, he looks normal and you just kinda go "whoa...." Because its a lot of change...anyways, anything darker=better IMO ;)

Batman's costume I've gotten used to, but Superman's looks like purple, not blue, and I find that distracting to say the least. Guess it's the digital animation instead of the hand-painted cels...those were the days.

As a longtime fan of the Bat (20 yrs now), I must say that I like all the three versions of the Batman. The FOX series depicted Batman in classic garb. TNBA featured a more retro-Year One look: black-n-grey, and a pointed/angualy bat emblem in place of the classic crest.
The JL Batman combines the FOX & WB Batman model w/ a tip of the cap to the creator of all this: Bob Kane (RIP). Kane drew the Batman with long, haunting ears, a black cape, and a black bat emblem. So really, the JL Batman is the Bob Kane Batman, the original mold. And I think it looks great. They all look great.
We are fortunate to even be having this discussion. Batman helped revive the genre. And in this day of anime-drenched programming, it's great to see American-created comic book-action programming making a comeback.
In addition to JL, Spider-Man will have an all-new CGI series on MTV this fall. Not to mention X-Men: Evolution having it's own share of success. Adding to comic book-tv is ABS Saturday morning line-up: the network plans to air the old Spider-Man & X-Men series that were on FOX back in the day. AND the Adam West Batman is returning to the airwaves on TV Land. It is a great time to be a comic book fan!!!

i agree w/ u about da Bob Kane design being used for JL, Anarky. originally, i thought i'd have to force myself to get used to the JL Batman design, but after realizing it wuz really like Bob Kane's original design, i ultimately let it go.
