Cartoon Network Announces Powerpuff Girls, Mojo Jojo Custom Guitar Giveaway
100 Guitars to be Given Away During Cartoon Cartoon Friday on April 26
Power chords have been the hallmark of aspiring rockers since the creation of the electric guitar. Now up-and-coming six-string maestros can riff on Powerpuffs when Cartoon Network gives away 100 custom guitars this spring. The giveaway will take place on Friday, April 26, during Cartoon Cartoon Friday, Cartoon Network's prime time showcase of original animated series like The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Ed, Edd n Eddy and Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Cartoon Network and Daisy Rock have created two custom guitars inspired by The Powerpuff Girls, the hit animated television series that will make its feature film debut on July 3 with the release of The Powerpuff Girls Movie. One guitar features all three Girls - Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup- on a heart-shaped pink guitar. The second guitar captures evil mutant monkey Mojo Jojo, the Girls' nemesis and chief tormentor of Townsville, peering menacingly over his purple cape.
The Powerpuff Girls and rock and roll may seem like an unusual combination, but the show's creator, Craig McCracken, has made his love of music an important part of the show and its licensing. British pop group Bis created the show's end theme and contributed to Heroes & Villains: Songs Inspired by The Powerpuff Girls, which was released in 2000 by Rhino and Cartoon Network. McCracken personally selected contributors to Heroes & Villains, which contained original songs by Devo, Frank Black, Shonen Knife and The Apples in Stereo. The critically acclaimed album hit #1 on both the CMJ College Chart and Billboard Children’s Top Audio Chart. A follow-up, The City of Soundsville, was released in 2001 and included 17 dance/techno mixes of music from the show.
A small number of the limited edition Powerpuff Girls and Mojo Jojo premium guitars will be available at CartoonNetwork.com's online store for a short time, beginning in March. Additional guitars will be presented to some of the artists who participated in Heroes and Villains and The City of Soundsville.
Daisy Rock, a leading guitar manufacturer and a division of Schecter Guitar Research, crafted both guitars. The Powerpuff Girls guitar is a 3/4-scale guitar created for beginners. The Mojo Jojo guitar has a premium alder body with a 24 3/4" scale bolt-on 22-fret "rock maple" neck. The fingerboard is adorned with star inlays and the guitar features two high-output humbucking pickups, hard-tail bridge and Grover-style tuners. Each guitar also comes with a padded case adorned with the Cartoon Network logo.
An Emmy Award-winner and named one of TV Guide’s “Top 10 New Kids Shows,” after its debut in 1998, The Powerpuff Girls airs daily on Cartoon Network. Townsville can be a dangerous place, forever subject to the criminal whims of villains like the Amoeba Boys, the Gangreen Gang and Fuzzy Lumpkins, but the dainty, daring and downright dynamite crayon-carrying crimefighters come to the rescue every time their hometown is threatened. And like good girls, The Powerpuff Girls always manage to save the day before bedtime.
