Peter Griffin's Paranoia Runs amok here as it seems we got a new Little Glitch thanks to those wonderful people who don't know squat about Computer programming..
Apparently Daylight Savings Time starts earlier this year (March 11th) and stays around until November 4th ...
and why is this so crazy?
Because the computers aren't ready to handle it..
Call it "Mini Y2K"..
Apparently this isn't just home computers either.. rather larger computer that handle banking transactions and even airline schedules are going to be majorly messed up...
So what do you feel about this?

I simple software patch for the various Operating Systems and softwares that depend on system time should fix the problem. Like with the Y2k scare, there was no problem at all. Some machines were reset that were not updated, but most were.
I'm already applying and maxing out my credit cards as we speak.

Microsoft has had a patch available for at least a month now. (I haven't bothered to install it because Arizona doesn't observe DST anyway, but I always see it come up when I run Windows Update.) If even the Evil Empire can get a fix out in a timely manner, how hard can it be? (-:

Yep I am in agreement with you here Mynd, why is it these folks in the rest of the states learn from us and just say "To heck with Daylight Savings Time!" after all 7 am on March 10th here in Tucson (and in Phoenix and Elsehwere in Arizona) will be 7 am on March 11th when Daylight Savings time starts in the rest of the states..
So when you think about it.. Arizona may sound like it's backwards.. but in reality... it's the rest of the US that is backwards...we're the SANE ones! it's the rest of the nation that is totally messed up!

Instead of DST you guys go ahead by a full day? What is the reasoning behind that?

No kidding. DST is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. It serves no perhaps, and that "extra hour" of sleep we supposedly get when it's time to roll back only works that first night. DST should be abolished.

Yep and it wastes Resources that could be better used.. in short I agree you should get on "The Arizona Standard...
Wait, I'm confused. Instead of DST you guys go ahead by a full day? What is the reasoning behind that?
No what I was trying to say is this. every day of every month of every year here in arizona, each day is the same time every day.. No "Springing Forward or falling back.. it's the same time each and every day.. we don't lose sleep except when we have you guys jump forward every spring (so if you work a 9 to 5 job in Arizona and you deal with other people in other states (which ARE on DST) you have to work from 8 to 4 during the summer and 9 to 5 during the winter..)
so in the end this little snafu they have with DST makes it hard on Arizonans in the long run..
but then Like I said, we're the sane folks here.. we don't have to adjust our clocks or do anything.. it's the same thing every day.. okay, got it?

:coyote:Yeah, thanks for clarifying.
I really don't mind DST. It's pretty nice having sunlight until 8:30pm during the summer. Heck, if I had my way we'd have DST all year long.

Only purpose DST seems to serve is fueling a part of the economy that revolves around adapting to DST. It's its own reason to exist apparently.

My brother in law is working on patching all of the software for his company to conform to the new standards, and while he typically is fond of over inflating his job, I'm inclined to take his word when he says this is a lot more of a hassle than it sounds.
Yes, Microsoft has issued a patch, but it apparently is filled with flaws, and doesn't conform to some of the more recently established standards of other countries, yet. Add to that, Microsoft will only sell the patch for anything below XP, not give it for free. And, of course, a whole lot of companies still run largely on OSes before XP.
He's been basically working on patching Outlook for his company, and said that even with all the patches, Outlook still manages to do weird things with appointments and the like, where only some get shifted to where they're supposed to and others don't. I would imagine it's similar for other software, as well.
Of course, like I said, he tends to over inflate the importance of what he does, so it might not be as bad as this, but that's basically the picture he painted for me.

Well there is one upside to all this... that you brother will have a job fixing all these problems until Microsoft fixes the problems itself.. other then that.. I doubt he's over-inflating his job ..
But this is why I have to laugh.. Everyone else is messed up.. but us folks in Arizona? We'll be looking at the rest of the group and wondering.. Why are they doing this annual "Chinese Fire Drill" of setting clocks ahead one hour then setting them back some 6 months later... heck for us, it's going from MST to PDT... so when Summer comes we're on the same time zone as California... where in the winter, we're on the same time zone as Denver.. so then who's being silly here? Us? or them?

:coyote:Well then we get to call you lazy flip-floppers. :p
And I LIKE Chinese fire drills. Except for that one time when they all drove off before I could get back in the car. (Don't worry, they came back for me.)
