I don't know. Doesn't Ace have a utility dog collar or something? Maybe a kryptonite flea collar to deflect Krypto's attacks?

Howdy all,

Admittedly, I'm biased, but I still have to say Ace the Bathound. Why?

- His keen deductive canine mind would quickly analyze Krypto's weaknesses and exploit them to devastating effect.

- Ace needs a COWL to hide his secret identity (no, really, this was explicitly stated in an early Batman comic). Krypto needs no mask because nobody cares about him.

- Ace (the Golden Age one, anyway) seems to be a German Shepherd Dog, well known for their regal bearing, tremendous loyalty, ferocious tenacity, great intelligence and trainability, and great versatility. Krypto is a hound-dog mutt from outer space.

- Ace has that nifty "utility collar."

- Krypto hangs out with Streaky, Supergirl's cat. CAT LOVER!!!!

- Ace gets access to the Batcave, and the Kryptonite ring in Batman's vault =8^).

Woof!

While I think Ace could out wit Krypto, let's be fair here: Krypto is a pure bred dog on Krypton.

Yeah but since he's an alien mutt that means he would know what to mark and so he would be confused and so by the time he even got part of a clue, Ace would have him down and pinned with a jar of krypton fleas that don't care about Earth dogs! :D

It would all depend on the prep time. :p

D00d, Ace the Bathound all the way...he's a lean mean fighting maching, while Krypto is some savage alien thingie that Bizaro adopted. Besides, I doubt Krypto will live long wnough to be able to put up a fight against Ace!

Heck, even Batman is scared of Bruce's dog...though, to be fair, I think Superman was somewhat scared of Krypto.

There seems to be some confusion here. Krypto is the white puppy dog Kal-El is seen playing with in the first episode. Bizarro's pet is nothing more than Bizarro Krypto. I say white puppy dog Krypto would wreck both Ace and Bizarro Krypto. He's got super strength, flying abilities, heat vision, the spunk of a little puppy, and let's just say if he wants to mark his territory on a tree, bye bye tree.

Howdy all,

I have one more reason why Ace is better than Krypto, which may also explain some of the confusion on this board:

- Ace has had 4 incarnations that I know of through the history of DC Comics: the "Golden Age' Ace (a German Shepherd with cape and cowl), the "Modern Age" Ace (a mastiff-looking beast from the Alan Grant/Norm Breyfogle run in the late 80's, who didn't do much other than slobber on Alfred a lot), "Batman Beyond" Ace (the Doberman we all know and love), and Mark Waid's "Kingdom Come" Ace (who was a huge alien space thing with wings, and was Batwoman's steed -- he's explicitly named in the TPB, and there are details in the KC Annotations).

- Krypto has only 3 incarnations, one of which is little more than a cameo: "Golden Age" white puppy dog with cape (most recently seen on the cover of the 9-11 tribute book), that weird alien pile of teeth with feet in STAS, and the puppy in the STAS premiere.

So, in total, Ace has still had more incarnations than Krypto, and has been an actual dog in 3 out of the 4 (vs. Krypto's alien versions in all cases). If one has to answer "Which dog is better?" in a purely technical sense, I think we have to give the nod to Ace, since he's the only one who's actually a "dog" in the sense that we understand ('cept in Kingdom Come).

I'd also add that REAL dog's don't fly. Harder to sniff the other dogs' butts that way.

That said, there's two things going for Krypto. First is his truly valiant end in Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" story (the last Superman stories before John Byrne rebooted with The Man of Steel, and worth seeking out -- I found it at Borders recently). Second is his appearance on the cover and in the story of the recent 9-11 benefit book. So it's not all a loss for the Dog of Steel.

Woof woof!

If Krypto could knock trees down on the ground by simply marking his territory, what happens when he gets the urge to mark territory while flying and he lands on the wing of a plane and marks on the plane? Krypto would no doubt take that plane down very easilly, making him a terrorits suspect. One more mark against him!

Krypto a terrorist? has GWB frozen his assets yet? is he the reason were on high alert all the time?

I'm going to have to go with Krypto on this one. This dog could think and communicate with his Kryptonian master by barking in code, not to mention navigating through deep space, further than any human ever travelled, and without the aid of a computer!

Edit: Oops, I just realized what forum this was. I was referring to the comic book Krypto.

Superman: Krypto? Were you responsible for that plane crash earlier today?
Krypto: Arf!
Superman: Don't lie to me Krypto, I know you did it! *hits Krypto with a conviently placed copy of the "Daily Planet"*
Krypto: Arf!
Superman: Hrm...I'm gonna need something a bit bigger. *Superman flies off to the Daily Planet, to fetch a Newpaper Printing Press to hit his dog with*

Actually, didn't he go kinda crazy on someone a little while ago in the comics? And then Superman did something to get rid of him for a while...

Hmm, as much as I love animals, the whole Bat-dog, Super-dog thing always weirded me out, lol. For the fact that they're dogs, I couldn't see them fight. But, if they did, and if Krypto has little powers of his own, then he'd probably win, even though Ace rocks. This is quite a weird topic, am I the only one that thinks this? hehe, probably...

Yeah, definatlely weird.
I guess if they fought, I mean, they'd fight like DOGS so Krypto would probably tear Ace to shreds.I mean, it's not like Ace is the dog from inspector gadget or anything, he can't use any of batman's cool toys.

Maybe that's just what he wants you to think. ;)
He's like his master, always one step ahead.

I wonder how Dynomutt would do against them? :p

If Ace had a few minutes to prepare he could easily take Krypto down with a kryptonite ball or stick, :D.

Are Krypto and Ace both male dogs or is one a female? If that's the case then we might get a radically different kind of "team-up."

Calhoun07

As far as I know, there is no super ***** version of those dogs, so I think they are male! And sorry for using *****, but that is the PROPER term for a female dog! Look it up in the dictionary!
