Superman's cape

OK, I'm really getting into the minutiae here, but that's what these boards are all about.

I am a life-long Superman fan, but even as a kid I never cared for the second all-yellow insignia on his cape. I think the all red animated version is much better.

(Hey maybe I just wanted to mention Superman on this board without talking about how he's been the villian's punching bag so far.)

In Superman III, Clark, Lana, and her boy are on a picnic...and Clark is wearing his Smallville High school jacket--a red one with a yellow S on it--with the sleeves tied about his neck and the rest of it dropping down his back. I think I nodded off once or twice during the picture, but I don't think she ever looked at the effect that made and put two and two together (aven after Supes mysteriously appeared in the middle of nowhere, Kansas and rescued her son from a thresher, then vanishes just before Clark saunters in). Seems he'd know better than to compromise himself in dumb little ways like that....

The yellow logo was taken off becuase animators found it really, really difficult to animate. And you're right - it looks so much better. I was hoping they'd drop it when the recently tweaked his costume.

Of course if I really had my way, I'd love to see Ed McGuiness set loose doing a series or a graphic novel set in the TAS continuity.

I think it'd be neat to see the Bruce Timm DCU through the talents of artist besides him or guys working in his style.

In the case of McGuiness it'd be a match made in heaven. :D

There was a show called Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. On one episode Superman had lost his powers and was in a holding cell with a bunch of criminals. one criminal said "Hey look I'm tugging on Superman's cape." Another replied "What are you gonna do next, spit into the wind?" Then he took a swing at Superman. Superman ducked and he hit another man instead. Everyone in the cell gasped and said, "You messed with Jim!"

Personally, I too am with chief. It looks better all-red, and I can see where it would be a lot easier to animate. Ever try drwaing it over and over to make an action scene by flipping the paper?
