Rock and roll. It'll be a pain in the ass to wait a week per episode, but otherwise I got no problem, I can dig long arcs.

Speaking of which, its often for this reason called the "Namek" arc of Bleach. Does it also get slow like in Namek, like stretching out any material, or is it just because its a long set of episodes?

It's nothing like Namek at all. It's very fast paced. Only bitter people call it 'Namek'.

Is it more like the Dark Tournament saga in YYH? That one was 40 episodes long, but was paced very smoothly.

I'd say it's paced similarly if not even better. The fights in this arc are good and long enough for you to enjoy them, but aren't stretched out long enough that you get annoyed at it. The plot is also much more convoluted than the Namek Saga, and doesn't have transformation after transformation after transformation of two characters. You're going to meet a LOT of new people very soon.

Meeting the new people is the best part. Shows like Bleach and Naruto are so wondeful because of how many diverse characters there are.
Namek, despite my love fro DBZ, was just so annoying. I willl never look at regenerating 5,000 form bad guys again in my life.

[sigh] This is what I hate about longer series...long story arcs that take almost a year to finish depending on how frequent the episodes come. Hopefully this won't be like Inuyasha and start to teeter between good and dull.

And right out the gate Orihime proves her worth.

At least this big guy's a gentleman...maybe "idiot savant".

Figures. The axes break the day after the warranty expires.

I do believe our gatekeeper is finally becoming a man.

Alot of people are tattooed in this show. You can't really use sideburns either.

But yeah, that's what I do. People always know what you're talking about and even give you the correct name.

I never understood why the Soul Society Arc gets compared to the Namek by people. SS flowed really well to me, unlike Namek, which seemed to drag on for so long.

As for the episode, Ishida having another cape is great. And my favorite part was Ichigo showing his improvement when fighting Jidanbō.

By the end of SS I didn't have any trouble with the character's names, at the very least, the captians and lieutenants (26 charactes) are fairly easy to remember. The personalities of some of them make them hard to forget...

<sigh>

Lets not forget the Namek saga was always intended to be the LAST ARCH of the series. It was meant to be builttotally the premise that they were building and building and building to an ultimate finally.

Archs seem less 'archy' when people view them over the course of the year instead of cramming 10 episodes into 5 days. Yea, all of us want to see the next installment of any really good series in the worst way, but waiting is actually what can make the episodes and more over the series even more enjoyable.

Without throwing too many spoilers in, the SS Arch feels weird because of all the strides in power you see between episodes but when you have to wait a week to see the next one, it feels like the recovery time was longer thus the power jumps more reasonable even though its in reality, just the next episode.

Now THAT was a good episode! Things were evenly paced, the anime writers kept in the various comedic bits (i.e. Orihime commenting on Ichigo's landing position, Uryu's extra cape, Jidanbo's quirks), and the episode itself was fun too.

Only nitpick is that Uryu didn't get hit with the rock. :( But the way Orihime was drawn after the gang exited the tunnel made up for it.

Dammit, why couldn't previous episodes have been like this?

Then they left 'Seireitei' rather than chaning it to 'Court of Pure Souls'.
Seireitei was left as-is in the manga, too. Hell, I don't think the English manga ever calls it "Court of Pure Souls."

I'm pretty sure Viz wont drop the ball there. They dubbed the introduction to them starting (as we heard in an episode on Adult Swim). If they do drop the ball then it was Viz's choice. I don't imagine they would though. Not when they're trying so hard to appease the fans with Bleach's release (among other Shonen Jump series).

I'm somewhat glad they dont' show them though. Because it would make Bleach even more childish to include them. Shades of the Jr. Detective League are still coming though. I look forward to the reaction of the casual viewers. :p

Ichigo whining about how he's not cute was actually cute. :p and wow, he got crazy powerful fast.

Orihime is pretty powerful too for a clueless curvy girl (in a defense way). Though I dont agree with her about their landings being "artistic" heheh.

The big guard was kind of weird. I guess the old "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" saying applies.

The Second Arc: ep 21-41

The Soul Society Rescue Arc: ep 42-63 beginning with the training for BanKai and ending with...well you know

I really don't understand why people always try to divide long arcs in shounen anime. Just because we get a new subplot we are not watching a different arc if the ultimate plot is still not finished. People do it with Naruto, DBZ, and other series. It's just silly like calling Shinigami Zukan "-insert word- cup."

Well, the episode was good. Jidanbou was just like I envisioned, country bumpkins. I got a laugh at the rules of the city, but I thought there was third one. I'll check that out later.

I surprised no one on this thread has called Gin "fox-face." That was the first thing I noticed the first time I saw him last episode. Oh well, hopefully Team Kurosaki will make it out alive from this confrontation with the 3rd squad captain. Maybe someone will be "shot down" or "impaled." We'll see next episode.

"I knew that stupid outfit would get him in trouble."

A good show knows when to be funny and when to be serious. This episode is Bleach's best example of how to follow that rule so far.

Lots of funny in the early going: Orihime being punished for her 'save,' Uryu bringing out a spare cape, and Jidanbo's interesting... dialogue.

As for the seriousness, wowzers. I had forgotten how powerful Ichigo has gotten already, and the gang's just getting past the gate into the Seiretai! He beats Jidanbo, who's 2-3 times his size, and is wielding one... no, wait, two axes!

Oh, wait... make that zero axes.

Ending with more funny... Uryu complaining about Ichigo being called the leader since he's the strongest. Doesn't he realize without the 'team' designation, the others would have to fight Jidanbo too? Including Uryu himself?

"Enter! The World of the Shinigami": 4/5.

He's probably jumpy that Ichigo's in charge...because he considers Ichigo an idiot.

Ishida thinks himself quite capable of handling the situation.

EDIT: Another thing I noticed about the titles--their translations are different. Shouldn't it be, "Enter! The World of the Soul Reapers?" :P

Seriously, I forgot that you followed the series beyond Adult Swim. There! I have admitted I made a mistake. At least at this point, it is obvious that Ichigo has a ways to go since he has to take on 26 opponents to get to Rukia. It's not like Ichigo can beat Byakuya and walk away with Rukia with the second opening and third opening being proof positive. So we really haven't seen much on the AS run.

I'm definitely a proponent of the Ichigo/Rukia, Orihime/Chad, and to a lesser extent Ishida/Tatsuki ships.

However, after reading the manga from just after SS arc up to the latest, it's pretty clear they're going to go with Ichigo/Orihime. Orihimie explictly states that she loves Ichigo (tho no one hears this).
