Primeval
Saturday, 7:45pm, itv1

Evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter investigates a sighting of a mysterious animal and soon finds himself confronted by a gigantic creature believed to be extinct. As he enlists the help of his team to discover how it managed to travel to the 21st century, a deadly predator goes on the rampage.

Sorry for the sparse details, itv's website doesn't offer much. So begins itv's attempt to topple Who from it's throne. Who will win? My bet's on the good Doctor...

So.....Doctor Who meets Torchwood meets Stargate SG-1.

Didn't really grab me; the pacing, characterisation and, well, pretty much everything seemed rather flat. I'll probably stick around for episode 2 though.

Best bit: the kid's lightsabre.

Pretty good. I went in with low expections and found it a lot better than i thought it would be.

Think its on a bit late tho, ITV need to stop pushing "reality" shows so much and give this the 7PM slot.

I laughed at the fact the lightsaber made the adverts, like itv was trying to make people think it was an actual gadget in the show.

The cast were all pretty stereotyped- the grizzled mentor with a missing loved one, the Rose Tyler inspired feisty yet fanservice girl, the one liner throwing nick of time action hero, the crackpot socially failing geek, the open minded government representative and her more close minded, butt of jokes superior.

The trailers were odd. The first one I saw played down the dinosaur invasion aspect and focused on the space/time rift, making it look like a wholesale Torchwood knockoff. Bit later on there was trailer that consisted entirely of one-liners, as if they were trying to sell it as a comedy...
