Children are not safe.... (http://www.myfoxmilwaukee.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=2311167&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=3.1.1)
Born out of my home town of Milwaukee. :D
Oh sweet! The mall they're using, I used to work there back in the day! ^__^
I hate to break to everybody, but there's danger in some way, shape, or form in everything you or your child does.
To Catch a Predator DS, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

...who uses Pictochat anyway?

I have two DS's and I have yet to use my Pictochat.

I was thinking the same thing. Chances are molesters won't be able to contact children because the children themselves are in the middle of a game.
And if the children's parents such good parents, why aren't they more aware of these things?

Must be a slow news day at FOX. Haven't heard anything about this anywhere else.

Fortunately I'm 20 years old and don't use Pictochat.
I wonder why Nintendo hasn't created any new Pictochat software that allows for their more long range Wi-Fi capabilities that they've been mostly doing nowadays.
The only time I use PictoChat is to randomly spook my friends by drawing horribly drawn nipples.
Because I'm a perv like that.

I thought the moment with Reggie was by far the most amusing. All Sony had to worry about was porn magically appearing on their PSP with Nintendo it's an entire child molester.

Me and my friends usually draw cartoon charactors. I had a friend at my house a while ago and we used Pictochat to draw ATHF charactors...
But then again, i dont see much DS at my mall...
Yeah, I saw this on the news a few nights back and just rolled my eyes. Slow news day indeed.

Must've been a slow new day. Everyone know that hardly anyone uses Pictochat. Those that do, use it for reasons like this:

Once when I was so incredibly bored at the mall with my friends, I opened up my Nintendo DS and went to pictochat... I couldn't believe I actually had a conversation with someone on it. It was actually quite humrous since the person was about three tables away from me in the food court when I looked around by curiosity.
We looked up and waved at each other.:anime:

The only time I've ever used Pitochat was a conventions where other people with similar interests to my own have a DS on hand. Seeing as you can only do it locally so far (at least last time I checked). I'm not seeing the danger. I do believe children could end up seeing some explicit images though and that is something to be concerned about. Even so the chances of that happening are very slim IMO.
As said before: who the hell even uses Pictochat? Now if Pictochat was wifi enabled, I'd see more reason for concern, but it isn't. If I had kids, I'd be more worried about them being on AIM or Myspace before I'd worry about Pictochat.

Weird how Pictochat only works to an extent. Fox made it sound like anyone anywhere in the world could use Pictochat. As we all know though, it only works within a couple dozen feet of one another.
It was a newsworthy article based on lies.

lol I used the pictochat at the mall and some 10 year old was talking to me. I was at my part time job on break and he said he was sitting near a shop that his mom was in.

So, instead of talking to girls face to face, use the Pictochat to be the love doctor at your local mall LOL :D
Nintendo DS, the new way to pick up chicks!

You mean parents don't read the system manual, OR know exactly what they purchase for their kids?
That's it--we'll sue Nintendo for everything they're worth and put them out of business!

That was worth a laugh. Thank you, the Fox O&O affiliate in Milwaukee. You have proven, to me, that you don't get it. How in the hell are pedophiles supposed to use Pictochat while driving their cars!!! Sure, Tycho of Penny-Arcade has a possibility, (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2007/02/09) but that should be an Olympic sport.
IMO, Dateline NBC has way more class than FOX and probably wouldn't monitor Pictochat.
I wonder if the DS Pictochat can work beyond 300 feet.
And, finally, parents should RTFM.
