I don't wan't to include non Marvel cartoons so can only think of 5..

1. Spider-Man: MTV style - The best animated look, finally a Spidey who moves and looks like he should.

2. Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends - sooo many Marvel guest stars...

3. Transformers - A guilty pleasure that I still know off by heart. If the animated movie had consistant animation it'd be amazing.

4. Captain America: The 60's cartoon - I loved this show when I found it on VHS.

5. X-Men Evolution - Really started getting into it once Beast came into it and they started expanding the universe. Loved it once mutants got outed.

Is this confined to traditional superheroes only? Because I'm quite fond of Smurfs, and it was a comic book series long before it was on television or the silver screen. The comic strips are quite good.

Great post! Geeks can never resist Top Ten lists!! So here goes:

10. Challenge of the Superfriends (1978- HB)

9. Spider-Man (1994- Marvel/Saban)

8. Superman (1996- WB)

7. Justice League/Justice League Unlimited (2002- WB)

6. The Incredible Hulk (1996- Marvel/Saban ONLY season 1)

5. Fantastic Four (1994- Marvel/Saban ONLY season 2)

4. Iron Man (1994- Marvel/Saban ONLY season 2)

3. X-Men (1992- Marvel/Saban)

2. Superman (1940- Fleischer Studios)

1. Batman: The Animated Series (1992- WB)

HONORABLE MENTION:

Aquaman (1967- Filmation)
Batman (1968- Filmation)
The Legend of Prince Valiant (1991- Hearst Entertainment/IBDH)

A few notes:

- Batman for me includes the Animated Series, Adventures of Batman and Robin, and the New Batman Adventures.

- Also, for the record, GI Joe and Transformers were NOT based off comic books. The comic books and cartoons were both based off the toylines and started at the same time. Comic book writers did create personalities for all the characters, but the two had entirely different continuities.

- I never did see the 80s Spider-Man (NOT Amazing Friends, but the previous one) or the 80s Incredible Hulk, so I don't have an opinion on those although they might have been awesome.

I'm just going to list them randomly, and not make a 10 list, since I work on a stream of unconciousness...

The Tick, the original animated series that popularised the black and white comic book, and helped spawn a short lived, but well remembered bunch of comedic superhero shows in the mid 90's.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- the first (or one of the first) comics based on an indie comic. I am partial to both the new and old series, plus the new movie.

Batman TAS- batman is pretty much my favorite straightforward Superhero (I'm a comedy superhero fan).

I don't know if Movies count, but- Asterix and Cleopatra the movie. I also really enjoyed the 12 tasks of Asterix and Asterix and the big fight.

Ducktales- Based off of characters and stories by Carl Barks and Don Rosa. While it ventured into its own thing (Donald was not featured in many episodes due to the fact Disney actually worred about character overexposure in those days)

1960's Fantastic 4. Just because Paul Frees did the voice of the Thing

Sam and Max, Freelance Police.

Spiderman- most of the ones I've seen from the 60's 70's and the 90's series were great, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Teen Titans- I know it takes a lot of heat for being "anime inspired" but I found it pretty playful and entertaining.

In no particular order:
Spiderman TAS: I grew up on this, and it had such a great cast of characters and so much action
Batman TAS:Also grew up on this, and and despite me thinking it gets a little overrated sometimes, its a great cartoon nonetheless
X-Men TAS: Once again, grew up on this, also had an awesome opening theme
X-Men Evolution: Absolutely loved this series as it progressed, i find myself watching it more often now, and i love how much the characters grow over the course of the series
Batman Beyond: Loved the action and the villains. Also had one of my favorite moments in entertainment history with Freeze killing himself in that ice-tomb of sorts.
The Batman: I like this series more and more as it goes on. Batman is my fav comic character and i love watching this Batman grow and slowly become more of a team player and an all-around superhero leader.
Superman TAS: Loved it, since it was my first exposure to Supes,
Spiderman (The MTV Series): Loved the movies, and even though this didnt have the same feel as them, i was so caught up in the big spider-hype of the time, i couldnt help but enjoy it.
Teen Titans: Cant quite explain it, but its amazinly addictive,
TMNT: Used to wake up early in the morning and watch it when i was a kid before school

The best Marvel cartoons?

10. Spider-Woman (ABC/DePatie-Freleng 1979-80). How could this show go wrong? ABC had it on before lunch, you had Joan Van Ark (Knots Landing) voicing the title character, and some good stories. And IIRC, it was coupled with Scooby & Scrappy-Doo in the 11-12 hour.

9. Incredible Hulk (1996-98, UPN): They brought back Lou Ferrigno to be the voice of the Hulk, which was cool. They did their best to be true to the comics, and She-Hulk was added to the mix in season 2.

8. Silver Surfer (Fox-Saban 1999): This was never given a fair chance. I only saw a portion of one episode, otherwise I'd rate it higher.

7. Fantastic Four (NBC/DePatie-Freleng 1978-79): Amazingly, this show was blacked out in the Albany NY market, and at that time our cable system also had the NBC affil from Utica, which is how I was able to watch the show. Johnny Storm was booted in favor of H.E.R.B.I.E because of paranoia over parental concerns.

6. Incredible Hulk (NBC-Marvel Prods. 1982-85): You had to suffer through Stan Lee's narration, which really wasn't necessary. In fact, the inclusion of Lee was the jump-the-shark moment for Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends. Michael Bell was the voice of Bruce Banner, beginning his long association with Marvel Productions (also worked on GI Joe), but I'm not sure if he also did Hulk.

5. Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends (NBC-Marvel Prods. 1981-85): Marvel decided they needed to start Spidey's 2nd run on SatAM with a Super Friends rip-off. Some stories were hokey, which would happen about every 2-3 weeks. The big bonus? Firestar would eventually jump into the Marvel Universe proper a few years later.

4. X-Men: Evolution (WB): As good as this show was, it fell victim to the network's lameass methodology of scheduling, doing all they can to avoid taking Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh (the latter now on Fox) off the schedule and give this series the respect it deserves. It even got dissed by Cartoon Network, if you could believe it. Wouldn't be surprised to see this get picked up by Toon Disney for Jetix.

3. X-Men (both versions): One of the few properties handled almost perfectly. They stayed true to comics history, even adapting the Dark Phoenix saga from the 80's. A shame that it had to end, but maybe there's a means to revive the show?

2. Fantastic Four (ABC/Hanna-Barbera 1967): Sure, there was a rights problem that kept them from actually using Sub-Mariner (Prince Triton of Pacifica? Please!), but they did use Dr. Doom & Galactus. ABC kept it around until 1970, and I'd rather see this on DVD instead of the French-produced atrocity CN has now.

1. Spider-Man (ABC/Grantray-Lawrence/Krantz 1967-70): The theme song has become as much an icon as the hero himself, although I could do without the Homer Simpson parody earlier this year. Ralph Bakshi was brought aboard about halfway through the first season to help, and the series turned the corner to Respectability Blvd. from there.
