View Full Version : Toon Zone Talkback - "Cinderella III" Makes Real Movie Magic
This is the talkback thread for "Cinderella III" Makes Real Movie Magic (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=14817).
Yes, you read right. A Disney direct-to-video sequel that's actually good.

I'm glad to hear that WD Australia went out with a bang instead of a whimper. They were always my favorite overseas Disney studio (though WD Japan came close at times).
To be honest, I DID think the movie sounded a bit unnecessary when I first heard about it, but judging from the review, maybe it's better than I once thought.
I still have buy the FIRST Cinderella yet, though...

The glass slipper fits at the end. That's all you need to know about the first one to appreciate the third one :D.
Truth be told, I was totally non-plussed at the idea of interviewing the director until I saw the movie. I think Disney did exactly the right thing by sending out copies of it in advance of the interviews.

Delia whetted my appetite for this film in her thread, and the review now has me practically drooling. I can't wait to rent this. I'll be back here to give my own thoughts on it afterward. :D
And I haven't seen the first Cinderella either, although I've seen tantalizing snippets. The reason I haven't seen it...is because I hate those squeaky little mice. Hate them HATE them! But that won't stop me from seeing this sequel. :)

The review was pleasently nice, making me give this movie a chance, once it does come out.

Well, I didn't really like the first one, the second one was dumb, but all logic aside, I do want to see the third one.

I will admit that I would like to see this DVD thanks to the review, but I'm loathe to buy it outright before watching it. I'll try to catch it when it's broadcast on either the Disney Channel or Toon Disney.

Hi guys. Cinderella it's my favourite Disney movie (or animated movie in general). I saw a lot of this 3rd chapter, I found it remarkable: the animation is at an excellent level, the story is great, the action is all over the place, BUT Marc Davis, one of Cinderella's original animator (he teamed up, in 1950, with John Lounsbery for the animation of the princess) said that the thing that made Cinderella's tale unique was the fact that this one is the only fairy tale in which magic is used just for good. Lady Tremaine had the same voice of Maleficent, if we make her a magic character we kill her character. I wish to see something new. I'd wish it for Disney Studio and for me, we both need it!

What about Beauty and the Beast? Or Sleeping Beauty? o_O

Or Sleeping Beauty?
There was some definitely bad magic in Sleeping Beauty. :ack:

It will be interesting to hear Jennifer Hale (best known as Sam and Mandy from Totally Spies, Ms. Keane, Princess Morebucks and Seduca from PPG, Dr. Naomi Hunter from Metal Gear Solid and Elektra from Cowboy Bebop: The Movie) as Cinderella. I never heard her sing before and it's an opportunity to hear her sing.

Actually, she doesn't sing in this one either. A different actress provides the singing voice of Cinderella.

When Marc Davis said this, in 1950, Beauty and the Beast wasn't considered (Walt considered it later for an unrealized feature film, brought to the screen just 40 years later) and Sleeping Beauty has both white AND black magic (both Maleficent and Aurora are Davis' characters).

"The third movie also seems to take no notice of its predecessor, which will confuse the continuity-minded."
That was my biggest annoyance with the arrival of this third installment. I mean, we already got a sympathetic look at Anastasia during the second movie; why couldn't they give the other sister a break? Still, I can imagine the movie in itself is as good as he says, so people should probably just pretend the second doesn't exist and let this be the sequel we've been waiting for.

If you do want to hear her sing, though, she does so in Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost when she played the lead Hex Girl.

Please note that I said "seems to," not "doesn't." The distinction is important ;).

Yeah, well, it's still pretty annoying that they seem to keep concentrating on the same sister; does Drizzella(?) get any kind of development at all in this movie? In any case, I really ought to see this thing before I allow myself to get any more annoyed.

Er... maybe I'm mis-understanding, but didn't the quote only mention the use of good magic period? o.o

The way this movie is set up reworks the timeline of the first movie, basically nullifying anything that happened in #2. I think it's just retconned, like American Tail 2 and its companion show, but not entirely forgotten. Watch the credits.:anime:
The only thing I miss from C2 is that there's hope for Drizzella there but zip in this one.

Off topic, but irony in the name Anastasia, there is a movie called Anastasia, when the title character plays a Cinderella type of role.
I liked the original Disney movie when I was a kid, but I like the live action movie Ever After version of the story the best.
The characters are protrayed are more realstic. Cinderella (I think she had a different name in the movie. I am not sure) and the Prince had flows, and weren't perfect people. Cinderella was more independent, wasn't so dansel in distrise. Only one of the step sisters was mean. The message of that, was we choose our own paths, not everyone has to follow their parents path. One of them choose to follow the lead of their mother and be mean, the other choose a different path.
I never thought the step sisters as evil, just mean. There is a difference between being mean and being evil.
For us Kim Possible fans, a criticism is the subtitle is unoriginal.
Watching the movie right now, and it's really funny! So far so good!

I'm not too crazy about the mice either. But I hate, hate, HATE Lady "Rhymes with Witch!" Tremaine.
