http://www.zmchamber.com/images/Sponsor_Ads/CommerceSponsors/pepsi.gifViacom's CBS is once again the network host of the Super Bowl, but Viacom's MTV has nothing to do with the Half-Time show as they the past two CBS broadcasts. After the incident involving Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake at Super Bowl XXXVIII, Don Mischer Productions returns for its third year in a row with a contemporary act better know years ago than they are today. Pepsi sponsors this year's half-time entertainment for the first time.

PRINCE, one of the world's most electrifying performers, is set to perform in the PEPSI SUPER BOWL XLI HALFTIME SHOW on CBS at Dolphin Stadium in South Florida on Sunday, Feb. 4, the NFL announced.

Prince is more than just one of the world's most popular and influential musicians -- he is an international icon. One of the greatest living performers of our time, he has sold nearly 100 million albums and is a member of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He has won six Grammy Awards (and he's one of the leading nominees this year with five Grammy nominations) and five American Music Awards. He has one of the most recognizable and successful bodies of work of any musician, consisting of 20 Top 10 hits which include Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, 1999, Kiss, When Doves Cry, Cream, Diamonds and Pearls and countless others. There is no question that when it comes to his achievements, Prince has made an indelible mark on rock 'n' roll history.

Don Mischer Productions and White Cherry Entertainment will produce the Pepsi Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show as part of their season-long marquee entertainment agreement with the NFL. The two companies produced the NFL Opening Kickoff 2006 special from Pittsburgh and the Thanksgiving special from Kansas City on NFL Network. In addition to the halftime show, they also will produce the Super Bowl XLI pregame show. Don Mischer Productions will serve as executive producer and director, while White Cherry Entertainment, led by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, will serve as executive producers. The NFL has worked the past three years with both Don Mischer Productions and White Cherry Entertainment on Opening Kickoff and Super Bowl shows.

Grammy–Award winning performer BILLY JOEL will sing the National Anthem during the Super Bowl XLI Pregame Show on CBS. Joel becomes the first performer to sing the National Anthem twice in the Super Bowl.

Joel, who has won six Grammys and been nominated for 23 total, is one of the world's most- popular recording artists. His extensive list of accomplishments includes selling more than 100 million records, 33 Top 40 hits. He was awarded the Grammy Legend Award (1991), inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1992) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (1999).

Joel's other Super Bowl performance was also in South Florida, prior to Super Bowl XXIII in 1989. SuperBowl.com (http://www.superbowl.com/)

Prince was amazing. I love that guy. He was the highlight of the entire Superbowl for me. One of the best halftime performances I’ve seen in so long.

He’s a great guitarist as well. Shame, he’s always been quite underrated when it comes to that.:D

The hell? Did I see the same thing? I saw a Prince that was singing other people's songs, pretended to play a guitar (when he took his hand away the guitar riff was still going), and all around looked sad and boring. No wonder they thought he was "safe enough" for halftime. I would have rather watched Up with People. This whole Superbowl was teh suck.

I like to know why he was singing other people songs too? Purple Rain made up for it.

I asked about this after reading your post and according to some people I know that know more about guitars than I do, he was tapping out the notes on the fretboard.

They needed more shots of the marching band. That takes tremendous effort to both play music and do dance moves at the same time, and by focusing more on Prince (yes, he was the "star" of the show, but work with me here) and the crowd and less on them, their efforts weren't really recognized.

Purple Rain would've been a perfect halftime show for a Ravens/Vikings Super Bowl. :P

Other than that, I didn't really pay attention much, like I do all the halftime shows.

Well Prince doesn't really do anything for so half-time had far from my full attention, but apparently there was some controversy about the part with the sheet and his symbol guitar (http://www.stateoffartmetalstore.nl/gitaar/artist_line__prince.htm) being placed "just right" with the shadows to look like a male version of the Janet Jackson incident.

I say "apparently" both because I didn't see it on the half-time and because while I saw it on MSNBC's Countdown (which did not have Keith Olbermann tonight!) and a Google and a Yahoo search for "prince super bowl controversy" and "prince controversy" comes up with nothing. I guess when you do 24-hour news you get bored.

But then there'd be no reason to go to the game.

Stephen Colbert mentioned that too. I thought it was just a joke, something he noticed and made something out of. I didn't know people were actually offended by it.

No mention here of that completely out-of-place pregame entertainment? Cirque du Soleil doesn't belong anywhere near football, especially with elements so disgustingly bright.

I really want to know who booked Prince for the halftime show, just so I could slap some sense into him. The only people crazier than that person are the idiots they had come onto the field and act like they were watching someone a singer who is relevant in this century.

All the Prince hate surprises me. On all the other boards I go to, everybody loves him.
