I've said for a long time that I think Warner is one of the most overrated players. But, upon thinking about it recently, I don't know if I can back that up in any way. He has the passing numbers, the QB rating, and all that. His accuracy is dead on. I've said before that the only reason he has such numbers is because of the talent he has on offense and the lackluster league they're in. But then all the great teams had offensive talent, so I don't know if that's fair to say.

Though I hate to admit it, I'm thinking I'm probably biased since I'm a huge fan of Steve Young, Joe Montana, and the Niners. I'm curious as to what the rest of you think. I've heard others say Warner is overrated, but is there basis for saying that? He's had three brilliant seasons and I'm thinking maybe I need to shut up and give him his due (much as I hate to).

Kurt Warner is the most overrated player not only in football today, but of all time. Is he a good quarterback? Yes, I see him as a more accurate, less tough Rich Gannon. Is he great? Not a chance. My top 3 qb's today go like this:
1. Brett Favre
2. Peyton Manning
3. Donovan McNabb
Warner's only gotten where he is because of his teammates. First of all, Marshall Faulk. Geez, there has never been a better all around back in football ever. He gets 5 years a carry by accident. His shoes could be tied together, he could be stumbling backwards blindfolded and his offensive line could have droppped dead from heart attacks, and he'd still get 5 and the 1st. And then you've got Stl's receivers, who are among the speediest in the league. And not only speedy, but they're actually good. They're #3 guy Hakim could've been the #1 guy on either the Eagles, Packers, Steelers, and maybe even on the Pats and Bears. Torry Holt is a one of the most undrerated receivers in the game, heck he had over 1400 yards last year. And Isaac Bruce is an all-pro receiver and has been. Plus, they've got a great OL protecting Warner, all he has to do is toss the ball up and somebody's bound to catch it.

Just look at Trent Green and what he did in Stl, and what happened after he went to KC who has no receivers. Warner's good but not great, extremely overrated.

I agree with everything you've said, but what if I say that to a Rams fan. He or she could answer with: "Well, Joe Montana and Steve Young had the Jerry Rice, the greatest receiver to ever play the game." In terms of talent, in the 90s Young has had players like John Taylor, Brent Jones, and Terrell Owens to throw to. And Rice. But I've never seen Young as overrated. I thought he was extremely underrated with praise always going to Favre.

But I agree with you. What I've always believed is that the truly great QBs can run and throw great. Montana, Young, and Favre were all multiple threats because they could kill defenses by air or on the ground when they left the pocket. Warner just stands there and throws, which really anybody can do with the receivers he has. Ok, well I guess I feel a little better about that opinion. There seems to be reason to call Warner overrated.

Well, I think the Rams are overrated. Only because they are the best in the league, so they get the press, etc. The thing that bugs me is the fact that the rams get all the press, but most people forget they are 2 teams in the Super Bowl. This annoys me because I am from Mass. GET SOME PRESS ABOUT THE PATS

Warner Might be a little overated but hes still agreat QB. He averages like 9 yards for pass attemtp. If he averages 3 more for yards for his next 75 pass attempts he has the NFL carrer recod.

Well, I always thought Montana was a bit overrated as well. But Montana seemed to have an aura of leadership that transcended his skills as a quarterback. Of course he wouldn't have won all those super bowls without his hall of fame supporting cast. But he did pretty well in KC too, during the last legs of his career to boot. So I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Another thing that I dont like about Warner is he's soft. You look at Peyton Manning who played the week after he broke his jaw, and you look at Brett Favre who's played like a 150 consecutive games. And you look back at players like John Elway and Steve Young, and you could say they were tough. But Warner, every week I hear the Rams advertising Warner's variety of injuries, bruised ribs, bruised thumbs, a muscle cramp. Geez, what is he? Every football player has these injuries every game, but the only thing I ever hear is, "I think that sore thumb's still bugging Warner" "Kurt Warner's accuracy has been compromised by a burned tongue during a chunky soup ad." Sheesh.
