In "A better World" part 1 when the Lords were watching the League fight Lex, Lords Batman said "They dont call themselves the Justice Lords, they call themselves the Justice League"
Did the Lords ever call themselves the "Justice League". Seems like they were a team long before Lords Superman killed Luthor.
Also why didnt Lords GL take League GL's ring? I always wondered that.

The Justice Lords never called themselves the Justice "League", never fought Luthor as a criminal with a powersuit, never fought Doomsday in their world, and i'm assuming, where never betrayed by Hawkgirl.
Really the Justice Lord's history is very different from the Justice League's.

I think the idea was that both justice league's and justice lord's history was the same until the point that jlord's superman killed luthor.
From that point on, they took diferent paths.

It similar to the many earths concept that DC is famous for like earth one and earth two where things are the same but different

The way I took it too, so why was the Lords suprised when the League called themselves the "Justice League".
Also when the Lords were reinforcing the League's Watchtower, Superman says something like I cant believe we left the Watchtower unprotected for so long or something like that. That implies the Lords were like the Justice League before Supes killed Lex.

I'm pretty sure that's the case, as the Justice League has been calling themselves that after Superman pitched the idea in "Secret Origins, Part Three." Obviously since the Justice Lords thought the league was an alternate dimension at the time (like the rest of us first seeing this ep) They thought it was happening parallel to they're own time, not before it. Thus the surprise on the attire, the different name and the Flash and Luthor still being there. They didn't know it was an alternate time line of things that had probably already happened in they're own timeline. Or at least some version of it anyway.
Also why didnt Lords GL take League GL's ring? I always wondered that.
I'm gonna say half plot device, half didn't think he would need to the way they locked him up. You would think having been them that locking up the Justice League never works but like I said, plot device.

My original impression was that they had always called themselves the Justice Lords. But I guess you could interpret it either way. Perhaps, Lords Batman meant that they had a different team name. Or, maybe he meant that they were still using the old team name.
As another poster pointed out, the Lords said they never had that particular battle with Luthor. On the other hand, in Question Authority, The Question speculates that the Justice Lord's history is actually the League's future.
I don't think there's definite proof either way. I still tend to think that they always called themselves the Justice Lords, though.

I always thought the ring could only be given willingly. Otherwise, anyone that killed a Green Lantern could just take their ring and there would be at least a few villians running around with Green Lantern powers. But I don't really know DC history or "rules", that's just what I interpreted from television.

I've always seen it that way, based on JL and "In Brightest Day..." from STAS. However, it is possible to take a dead GL's ring, or at least its power. That's where Sinestro's power came from. But I would assume that only Sinestro has the means to do it (considering the Guardians spoke of "another source" of power, which was never identified).
EDIT: I've already thought of at least one instance which would contradict this. "Hearts and Minds." Despero takes both John and Katma's rings. I suppose this would blow our theory, unless Despero's great power allowed him to do it. But I've got a feeling I'm forgetting another scene as well...

I had always assumed that Sinestro was using a different kind of power ring. Plus, he was a Green Lantern before he turned evil, wasn't he? I thought he had made a facisimile that used a different (yellow) power source.
I had forgotten about Despero. I guess I don't really remember him taking the rings, either. Did he actually use their rings or just physically take them away? I'll have to re-watch it.

The Thanagarians confiscated GL's ring in "Starcrossed." Remember though that taking the ring and having enough willpower to use the ring are two different things.
And of course none of this really explains why the J-Lords didn't take GL's ring in the first place....

I kinda just assumed it was a matter of honor. You don't touch another man's ring. Or hell, maybe JL Batman was hanging on to it.
