View Full Version : JL Cliche?

I've noticed that in every episode someone (usually the main focal character) gets shocked in at the climax.

In "Secret Origins" Martian Manhunter gets shocked by the Imperium.

In "In Blackest Night" John Stewart gets shocked by the head Manhunter before his powers are sapped.

In "The Enemy Below" Aquaman gets shocked by Orm's trident.

In "Paradise Lost" Wonder Woman gets shocked by the key that opened Hades door.

Is it just nitpicking?

Probably. But since we're on the subject of JL cliches-- Is anyone else deeply comforted at the end of every storyline when one of the characters says "Let's go home"?

Electricity is good way to have a hero get stunned temporarily without really injuring them or making the show too violent. Other cliches? Since when does Batman have all these explosive batarangs? This guy's got more grenades on him than Sgt. Rock.

Here's another: Wonder Woman is sexually harrassed in every episode. First by Flash in "Secret Origins", then by Deadshot in "The Enemy Below," and now by Hades in "Paradise Lost." I really wish she'd react violently when this happens, but she doesn't. Who knows? Maybe she likes it.

Am I the only person who wonders why Amazonian battle garb is so patriotic? They're Greek for Pete's sake!

I'm almost tempted to create a JL Drinking Game.

Take a drink for:

-Every time Superman gets knocked around.

-Every time WW says "Hera"

-Every episode that ends with someone saying "Let's go home."

-Every time Batman saves the day.

-Every time Flash hits on someone.

More to come.

I don't think it's possible to drink that much.

-every time hawkgirl grunts and roars when she hits someone.

-every time superman's S changes shape.

-every time green lantern uses his ring to make a big blockade sheild.

-every time batman makes a mysterious enterance.

-every time we see a lens flare effect (you photoshop and aftereffects people will know what im talking about)

How about everytime the heroes show a blatant disregard for public/private property

everytime Wonder Woman shows off her amazing power to deflect lazer beams with her wrist braces. (drink twice if someone is safe by standing behind her)

Howdy all,

Not that I want to condone overdrinking or underage drinking, of course, but...

- Drink for any cameo of a DC hero/villian (Deadshot or Kanjar Ro, for example, not the Manhunters, the GL Corps, or Aquaman)

- Drink when the Javelin-7 is damaged

- Drink whenever someone says something blitheringly obvious ("Whatever that thing is, I've got to stop it!")

OTHER HERO-SPECIFIC:
- Drink when Superman gets the stuffing kicked out of him. Double-shot if it's another Leaguer doing it.

- Chug if GL ever uses his ring for something other than a force shield, a transport bubble, or a giant laser beam.

- Drink any time J'onn goes immaterial and lets 2 or more bad guys destroy each other.

- Chug if they ever explain how Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman keep their tops up.

- Drink any time the Flash trips on something while moving at super speed (the rock-to-the-face in "In Blackest Night" qualifies).

- Drink any time it is revealed that Batman knows something the other Leaguers don't

When she looked at some mannequins in a shop window in "Paradise Lost" and mused to Superman why human women would wear such outfits...did you get the impression that Supes had to bite his tongue damn hard to not to make a rude crack?
That's why the Lasso of Truth is impractical--if the crook actually does speak what he's thinking at that moment, it'd probably be a sexually degrading comment on Wondy's body. Query, though--being an innocent untouched young lass fresh off Themiscyra, would she blush and get mad, or actually like it? She strikes me as the virginal-yet-curious type....

When she said that, I couldn't help but think that she doesn't use a mirror very often. I thought it was a very funny line, without her *trying* (a la Flash) to be funny. :)

I remember hearing this joke Dave Chapelle once made about the Lasso of Truth. He had a crook say "Damn you got some big breasts!I wasn't gonna say anything before,but..."
