View Full Version : "WWE Royal Rumble" Prediction Thread
The Penguin
01-27-2007, 04:11 AM
The 20th Royal Rumble is just days away. All prediction must be made by Sunday at 8 p.m. ET and cannot be edited after that time.
The Rumble has five scheduled matches, so everyone's total will be out of five. If you refuse to pick on principle, Kippy has no clue who you want, or you just plain miss it, you will get it wrong. Get it? Got it? Good.
(Pick one Superstar and one Superstar only for the Rumble match. Picking more than one has always confused people and with the change to all three brands resulting in an uneven split it just makes sense. So pick one winner and that's all.)
Royal Rumble Match
Shelton Benjamin, United States Champion Chris Benoit, Carlito, Tommy Dreamer, Kenny Dykstra, World Tag Team Champion Edge, Finlay, Ric Flair, Chavo Guerrero, Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms, Hardcore Holly, Kane, King Booker, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels, The Miz, Johnny Nitro, World Tag Team Champion Randy Orton, Montel Vontavious Porter, CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, The Great Khali, Kevin Thorn, The Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, Viscera, Super Crazy
WWE Championship - Last Man Standing Match
Champion John Cena vs. Umaga with Armando Estrada
World Heavyweight Championship
Champion Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy
ECW World Title
Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test
The Hardys vs. MNM with Melina
Please remember this thread encompasses anything to do with predictions. Should you feel the need to tally up your score, "challenge" people, or tell the story of the "match for the championship" that is going to fit in here, not the talkback thread for the event which will of course be posted Sunday.

1. A toughie. I can think of at least 3 people that could win the Rumble. It could be Shawn Michaels, the Heartbreak Kid in his hometown. It could be the Legend Killer Randy Orton. Or it could even be CM Punk. But I'll go with THE UNDERTAKER. He's never won a Royal Rumble, and I think this is the year he finally wins it. Him and Batista seem to be the only Mania match set in stone. Perhaps and I hope this isn't the case, but his Rumble win may make up for his impending 1st Mania loss this year. Very sad but true.
2. JOHN CENA yet again overcomes all the odds to retain. Predictable but I can't see another 2 months of Cena and Umaga feuding till the biggest show of the year.
3. BATISTA retains.
4. After much debate, I'll go with LASHLEY rather than Test. I wouldn't be that surprised if Test does win though.
5. HARDYS win.

I've come back to watching wrestling after four years of being away from it. Hey, I didn't get tired of it, I just was turned off by McMahon's stale brand of wrestling. However, I'm back and I like some stuff, but some of it still needs to be fixed. Anyway here is my prediction for the Royal Rumble matches:
Umaga v John Cena.
I think Cena is going to win this because they need a star like him in Wrestlemania. However, I wouldn't be shocked if Umaga wins and then Cena regains the title at the next PPV.
Batista v Mr. Kennedy:
Batista is going to win. Kennedy has not a chance in hell of winning this thing. Its pretty much set in stone that Taker will be facing Batista at Wrestlemania and this is just a waste of time for the audience.
Royal Rumble match: The Rumble is so easy to predict year in year out, and this year isn't any different. We all know that there is either two men who are going to win this: It is either going to be Shawn Michaels or The Undertaker. I think that 'Taker is going to win because he's never won it before and they want to really set up his Wrestlemania match with Batista.

After my worst showing in the last PPV, here's hoping I get back on the comeback trail.
Royal Rumble Match
Shelton Benjamin, United States Champion Chris Benoit, Carlito, Tommy Dreamer, Kenny Dykstra, World Tag Team Champion Edge, Finlay, Ric Flair, Chavo Guerrero, Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms, Hardcore Holly, Kane, King Booker, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels, The Miz, Johnny Nitro, World Tag Team Champion Randy Orton, Montel Vontavious Porter, CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, The Great Khali, Kevin Thorn, The Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, Viscera, Super Crazy
I see the Undertaker winning the Royal Rumble.
WWE Championship - Last Man Standing Match
Champion John Cena vs. Umaga with Armando Estrada
For the past few PPVs, I've always picked against John Cena. However, I'm going for Cena this time as he may pull something up his sleeve to bring Umaga down.
World Heavyweight Championship
Champion Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy
Batista will win, and show Mr. Kennedy what happens when you try to be clever and cocky.
ECW World Title
Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test
Lashley will win.
The Hardys vs. MNM with Melina
MNM wins this one, and gets an ounce of revenge against the Hardys.

To me it's Undertaker or Shawn Michaels. Both Superstars are from Texas, and they seem to be using the idea of Undertaker vs. Batista for Wrestlemania, so I see Undertaker prevailing.
http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/309846/1922582/3968516/20070115_rum_lastmannew.jpg
Even if Cena is truly injured, I don't see them making Umaga the champ. If Umaga was the champ come Wrestlemania, I can only imagine how many people wouldn't buy it. John Cena
http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/309846/1922582/3968516/20070115_rum_kenbatnew.jpg
If the idea is truly Undertaker vs. Batista at Wrestlemania, then Batista wins. If Ken Kennedy does manage to win though, it'll be by DQ.
http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/309846/1922582/3968516/20070116_rum_testlash.jpg
If any title changes hands, it'll be this one, but WWE has been having the heels lose at most of the PPV's, so I'll go with Bobby Lashley.
http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/309846/1922582/3968516/20070116_rum_mnmhardyz.jpg
Three of these superstars are doing double duty by being in the Royal Rumble match and this tag match, but I don't see MNM winning unless the winner gets some sort of tag title shot, so I say give it to The Hardy's.
I'll be honest though, I'm surprised that everyone is putting MNM with Melina in the talkback solely because MNM stands for Mercury, Nitro, Melina- which means whe's already credited as being a part of the match even if she's not in the match.

Looks like it'll be a good show. I see all the champs retaining, MNM winning, and either Shawn Michaels or The Undertaker winning the Royal Rumble Match. Predictions for 'Mania are Lashley/Cor Von for the ECW Title, Shane McMahon vs. Hulk Hogan, Batista/'Taker for the World Title, and Cena/HBK (face vs. face) for the WWE Title.

Undertaker wins the Rumble. It really seems like they want to make sure He gets his first Mania lose due to Batista.
Cena overcomes all odds again and beats Umaga to remain the chump
Batista wins, though hopefully Kennedy isn't out of the title picture after this.
Lashley beats Test in what I'm betting will be the worst match of the night.
Hardyz win.

(IMO, I don't agree with the one superstar only rule, but I have to act like Cool Hand Luke, and work within the stupid little system. I pick the dead phenom zombie biker UNDERTAKER to take it all, and finally win the Royal Rumble match.)
WWE Championship - Last Man Standing Match
Champion John Cena (Cena winning is very obvious, but expect an absolutely brutal match with blood flowing at the very least. Unlike past PPV's, I am actually picking a winner this time. Remember 2004?) vs. Umaga with Armando Estrada
World Heavyweight Championship
Champion Batista (Kennedy will put up a heck of a fight, but the win will go to Bats, and go on to...
No
Way
Out...) a vs. Mr. Kennedy
ECW World Title
Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test (Test is probably going to be ECW champion. Guaranteed.)
The Hardys vs. MNM with Melina
I am picking Hardyz now.
I really can't wait for this. This feels like it will be a solid PPV, and 2007 RR will definitely be better than last year's.

Undertaker This is a tough pick for me because SmackDown! still has No Way Out to build their WrestleMania card, but I don't see HBK as a lock to challenge for the WWE Championship. Taker however, is seeing very likely.
WWE Championship - Last Man Standing Match
Champion John Cena vs. Umaga with Armando Estrada
Cena I just have a real hard time seeing Umaga as the Champion for any length of time—even if Cena won it back the next night. RAW needs to start looking toward WrestleMania and Umaga will not be a part of that picture.
World Heavyweight Championship
Champion Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy
Batista The Animal will coast until WrestleMania, hopefully he won't win in a way that hurts Kennedy.
ECW World Title
Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test
Lashley Test isn't going to win. I'm not sure where ECW is going, but I expect Bobby will continue to drive this brand with the brakes out.
The Hardys vs. MNM with Melina
MNM Mercury needs some revenge, he gets it tonight. Maybe he and Nitro will even knock a Hardy out of the Rumble to give us a mystery pick or a desperate Ken Kennedy, Test or Umaga.

Royal Rumble Match
Shelton Benjamin, United States Champion Chris Benoit, Carlito, Tommy Dreamer, Kenny Dykstra, World Tag Team Champion Edge, Finlay, Ric Flair, Chavo Guerrero, Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms, Hardcore Holly, Kane, King Booker, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels, The Miz, Johnny Nitro, World Tag Team Champion Randy Orton, Montel Vontavious Porter, CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, The Great Khali, Kevin Thorn, The Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, Viscera, Super Crazy
WINNER: UNDERTAKER. After the past few SmackDown!'s it appears that Batista versus Undertaker is a lock for WrestleMania, while nothing appears definite on RAW. I'm not sure what's going to happen at No Way Out, but I'm going to predict that the Undertaker will win the Royal Rumble for the first time ever.
WWE Championship - Last Man Standing Match
Champion John Cena vs. Umaga with Armando Estrada
WINNER: JOHN CENA. Umaga is not going to be WWE Champion. Cena will win this match, hopefully in a way that keeps Umaga looking strong.
World Heavyweight Championship
Champion Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy
WINNER: BATISTA. Mr. Kennedy is not ready to be the World Heavyweight Champion. Batista is going to retain his title and is my pick, but I'm not certain that he's going to win this match. Kennedy may be able to defeat him again by count out or disqualification.
ECW World Title
Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test
WINNER: BOBBY LASHLEY. Even in ECW, Test can't be the main champion. Like Kennedy, I guess that he could win in a way where he won't win the title, but I don't see that happening after Lashley defeated him cleanly last Tuesday.
The Hardys vs. MNM with Melina
WINNER: MNM. So far the Hardys have dominated this feud. I'm not certain if it's going to continue after tonight, but if it is, MNM has to win this match.

The Hardys vs. MNM with Melina
Looks good. No matter what's being said, I still think this is going to go on until 'Mania. I'm looking for some Mercury revenge here (possibly taking out a Hardy and opening up a Rumble spot for a mystery entrant) to keep the story going strong. WINNERS: MNM
ECW World Title
Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test

Easy pick. Unlesss it's a DQ or something fishy, Batista is going strong into Wrestlemania to fight 'Taker. WINNER: BATISTA
WWE Championship - Last Man Standing Match
Champion John Cena vs. Umaga with Armando Estrada
To put it bluntly, I care about this match about as much as I do the ECW Title match  WINNER: JOHN CENA
Royal Rumble Match
Shelton Benjamin, United States Champion Chris Benoit, Carlito, Tommy Dreamer, Kenny Dykstra, World Tag Team Champion Edge, Finlay, Ric Flair, Chavo Guerrero, Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms, Hardcore Holly, Kane, King Booker, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels, The Miz, Johnny Nitro, World Tag Team Champion Randy Orton, Montel Vontavious Porter, CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, The Great Khali, Kevin Thorn, The Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, Viscera, Super Crazy
Always a fun match. So many things always happen, and it's great to see who gets their mini-push by eliminating a number of people. No mystery entrants this year makes me a sad panda, but I'm sure something will happen (like always) to remedy the situation. As far as a winner goes, it's kind of a toss up. Undertaker looks like a really strong choice, but does he really need the win to get a title shot? HBK could go over big, but rumors are going around that he'll be involved in all the Vince/Trump crap at 'Mania this year. I'm going with a Raw guy (since the trend seems to be brands winning every other year and SD won last year) and that narrows it down to only a few. Here's hoping I'm right. WINNER: RANDY ORTON

I didn't get it to Spike, but the TWE Tag Team championship is also on the line. Newly crowned champions The Pimps of Inferno
look to prove that the power cannot be defeated, but in a random occurance Kippy has announced that a 3-team elimination chamber match will determine the champions at this pay-per-view. Unlike the traditional elimination chamber match, the cages will be filled with tag team partners, and a random drawing will determine which two athletes will start the match in the cage with a new door being opened every 5 minutes or when someone has been eliminated.

The elimination chamber proved to be a brutal affair for all the combantants, and Rattrap was shocked when he was the first one eliminated, but the champs still are The Pimps of Inferno (22/34).
The Pimps may have managed to hold on to their title (via the tiebreaker), but they won't have much time to rest. TWE Commisioner Kippy has announced a tag team battle royale will be held at No Way Out to determine the champions. Last year The M and V Connection managed to claim their only tag team title at No Way Out, but R. I. P. wants their first tag team gold (though Deadman has held both the other titles, and bigddan11 has held a tag team title before), Two Man Power Trip and The Headliners have developed a new hatred for the Pimps, and Zero Signal & Jewelz want to prove an intergender tag team can take the gold despite the monsters size. Here's your TWE Tag Team standings:
1) The M and V Connection- VCXZX and Matt Hazuda (22/34)
2) R. I. P. - Deadman and bigddan 11 (21/34)
2) Two Man Power Trip - The Penguin and Kippy (21/34)
4) The Headliners- Rattrap and PTurkey (20/34)
4) Zero Signal & Jewelz (20/34)
6) Kasumi & Spike Mcdougal (14/34)
Highest score for Royal Rumble = 10/10
Highest score for New Year's Revolution = 7/12
Highest score for Armageddon = 10/12
FINAL TOTAL = 27/34

VCXZX knocks Shake out of the ring with a chairsoht as Matt batters the already Punisher with multiple chair shots to the head, busting him open. The the booing of the capacity crowd, Matt drops his chair into the center of the ring and kicks Punisher in the gut, causing him to buckle over. Matt sets up and delivers his 3$ Bill, a devestating flip piledriver, onto Pun, crashing his head onto the chair. He pushes the champ's body off off him as refs and EMTs make their way ringside and exits the ring. "Here comes the Money" hits and him and VCXZX make their way up the ramp and leave the areana floor.

Add another 5/5 to the pile. The Rumble was an obvious Taker or HBK, and the only other unpredictable match was Hardyz/MNM.

4/5 for me.Since I haven't watched wrestling in some time (on and off as of 2000),I am still new to some of the wrestlers in recent years.I didn't remember who Lashley was so I voted for test.

Twenty-nine people made predictions for the Royal Rumble, an increase of one from New Year's Revolution earlier this month. Our overall prediction rate increased by 36 percentage points to 79%. That's our best performance since SummerSlam in 2005.
---------------
There is a new Intercontinental Champion...
langden alger!! (88%)
Top Contenders
1. Dirtbag (82%)
1. Spike Mcdougal
1. Jaguar
4. king zrz (80%)
5. hobbyfan (76%)
5. Shakezola
5. Majin_Megabyte
8. PTurkey (71%)
8. Jewelz
This is the third time that langden alger has won the Intercontinental Championship. Dirtbag, Jaguar, and former champion Spike Mcdougal have all earned the right to be called the number one contender. Who's going to walk out of No Way Out with the Intercontinental Championship?
---------------
He is still your World Heavyweight Champion...
langden alger!!! (108)
Top Contenders (127)
1. PTurkey (103)
2. Shakezola (99)
2. Spike Mcdougal
4. Dirtbag (98)
4. Majin_Megabyte
6. hobbyfan (96)
7. bigddan11 (93)
8. Kippy (88)
9. Matt Hazuda (87)
This is the third straight event that langden alger has walked out of as World Heavyweight Champion. PTurkey, the former champion, is still the number one contender. langden alger currently has both of the singles championships; will that still be the case after No Way Out?

Thanks again and be sure to return next month to make your picks for No Way Out!
The Intercontinental Title Champion is decided by a calculating who has the highest percentage of correct guesses over the three most recent pay-per-views. The Heavyweight Title score awards points for correct guesses (no penalty for wrong guesses) for the six most recent pay-per-views. The points system for the heavyweight title is weighted such that more recent pay-per-views are worth more points. Click here (http://www.rit.edu/~mdk8894/toonzone/royalrumble07.xls) to view the spreadsheet used to make these calculations. Please, please check my work!

After having another disappointing PPV, Rattrap punches his locker and walks out to the ring to address the crowd. He pushes his hair back and starts to speak...
"You know the whole time I've been around here, I haven't held one singles title! The biggest push I've received is being Turk's tag partner! I'm sick of it! The Rumble made me look like an idiot! Come No Way Out, Rattrap will finally get some respect around this place!"
Rattrap throws down the microphone and exits the arena.

4/5. Not too bad. Would've been perfect if the Hardys had jobbed for once.
Looks like I'm in line for a World Heavyweight Title shot soon. But I could've sworn I'd leave Royal Rumble Intercontinental Champion. Whatever, atleast The Pimps of Inferno retained the tag team titles as promised.

Rattrap throws down the microphone and exits the arena.
As he walks up the ramp, the Headliners' music begins to play. Only it isn't playing for Rattrap's exit; it's playing for PTurkey's entrance. Rattrap's tag team partner emerges from behind the stage's curtain, one hand hiding something behind his back, the other holding a mic. He begins to talk...
"Look, I know you're upset about us losing the Tag Titles a few months ago. And I know you're upset about never winning a singles title, while I've become this company's second ever Superchampion, holding all three titles at the same time. I saw it in your face, how you wanted the same success I was having. So I got something for you, just to cheer you up."
Turk reveals what he's been hiding behind his back: a box covered with TWE-licenced holiday wrapping paper. Rattrap stares at it for a moment, then at PTurkey's face, which has a goofy grin. Rattrap takes the present out of his hands.
"Open it."
Rattrap rips open the wrapping paper, exposing what's inside:

"Your own championship title, The FTW Heavyweight Championship! Rattrap, For The Win!" says PTurkey, reading off the nameplate and his interpretation of the initials 'FTW.' It doesn't seem like he knows what those letters originally stood for. "I meant to give it to you last month, but I bought it on eBay from some assclown in Maryland who apparently didn't know how to use a post office. That guy got some negative feedback from me, I'll tell ya. Anyway, what do you think?"

Well friends, this is ONLY the Royal Rumble match. At Wrestlemania, from 2004-2006, I have a 21 and 9 record, and I almost became the World Heavyweight Champion last year. At No Way Out, the 'Wonder' comes out to play!

Rattrap holds the belt in his hands and a smile as big as Texas appears. Rattrap then grabs the mic from Turk.
"Oh man. Wow. Just wow."
Turk raises Rattrap's hand in the air while Rattrap lifts the belt into the air. After a second or two, Rattrap rips his hand out of Turk's grip, drops the belt, kicks him in the gut, and pedigrees him onto the stage. Rattrap then picks up the belt and tosses it over his shoulder.
"Wow. You had the nerve to belittle me like this! I finally set out to get respect and you just give me a belt out of pity! You're pathetic. You know I think I'll keep the belt in spite of you!"
Rattrap then flicks off the audience.
"This isn't the For The Win Title...it's the F*** The World Title! You know I thought Turk was my friend, I thought he had my back. I guess not and when No Way Out comes around, the FTW champion is gonna run all over the other idiots around here. F you fans, F you wrestlers, F you Turk, F the world!
Rattrap tosses the mic into the crowd and walks to the back leaving a confused and hurting Turk on the stage.
