I know, I know. This topic has already come up once, but since I just got the Batman Beyond The Movie DVD and watched the first 10 minutes(still havent watched it yet....bahhhhh) I have come to some additional thoughts on why Bruce quit.

Yes, we all agree that his health was not the greatest. But look at him after the bad guys are done. He looks at the gun and hangs his head, in what appears to be shame and disappointment. Look at it like this also, this is the future. You would think that by then they would have thought of a good way fight heart disease and problems. I know at that time things were not as advanced as when Terry is around but still. Tony Stark sure was able to fix himself up right good.
I think there were ways for Bruce to help himself out with his ailing health, but the mental dissapointment that he had to resort to using a gun made him believe that his fight was over.

And how do they get the mask to form around their mouths so good anyway? Just had to add that in.

To me, the times had changed, and Bruce Wayne was just NOT the guy to be Batman anymore. Batman was still needed, but Bruce wasn't the guy to be him. The world was too much, and it caused him to resort to surprising things that damaged him emotionally. So, he just gave it up.

I feel dumb for saying this, but I'd never realized that Bruce was afraid of guns until i read Gotham Knights 24. But, after reading that, B:TAS makes a lot more since. So does Batman's dramatic reaction towards reaching for the gun.

PLUG TIME:
If you're like me and love pyschological drama then this comic is a must have. The conversations between Batman and Bruce are really moving.

Ps-
This is off the post topic, but I also realized that Bruce Wanye is a person. Superman doesn't really exist, he's just a persona that Clark Kent uses to get the job done and keep his privacy. I always assumed that Bruce Wanye was just a persona that Batman assumed to keep himself in funds. But after reading a few of the comics I've figured out that between batman and the playboy personas there's Bruce Wanye some poor kid who parents are still bleeding on the cement in front of him. Just a personal revealation.
